1 Elihu proceeded further and said:	1 Indi Eliu seguitò a dire:
2 Wait yet a little and I will instruct you, for there are still words to be said on God's behalf.	2 Soffrimi ancor un poco, ed io mi spiegherò con te: perocché ho tutt'ora da dire per la causa di Dio.
3 I will bring my knowledge from afar, and to my Maker I will accord the right.	3 Ripiglierò da' suoi principj la mia sentenza, e proverò, che giusto è il mio Creatore.
4 For indeed, my theme cannot fail me: the one perfect in knowledge I set before you.	4 Perocché veraci, e senza menzogna sono i miei detti, e una dottrina, che è perfetta, a te piacerà.
5 Behold, God rejects the obstinate in heart; he preserves not the life of the wicked.	5 Dio non rigetta i potenti, essendo pur egli il Potente.
6 He withholds not the just man's rights, but grants vindication to the oppressed,	6 Ma non salva gli empj, e a' poveri rende ragione.
7 And with kings upon thrones he sets them, exalted forever.	7 Non torcerà i suoi sguardi dal giusto: egli è che colloca sopra trono stabile i regi, ed eglino sono esaltati.
8 Or if they are bound with fetters and held fast by bonds of affliction,	8 E se poi saran messi in catena, o annodati da' lacci di povertà,
9 Then he makes known to them what they have done and their sins of boastful pride.	9 Egli ad essi accennerà le opere loro, e le loro scelleratezze, perocché ei furon crudeli.
10 He opens their ears to correction and exhorts them to turn back from evil.	10 Aprirà loro le orecchie adiri di correggerli, e gli ammonirà, perché si ritraggano dall'iniquità.
11 If they obey and serve him, they spend their days in prosperity, their years in happiness.	11 Se ascolteranno, e saranno docili, finiranno i giorni loro felicemente, e gli anni in gloria:
12 But if they obey not, they perish; they die for lack of knowledge.	12 Ma se non ascolteranno, urteran nella spada, e periranno nella stoltezza.
13 The impious in heart lay up anger for themselves; they cry not for help when he enchains them;	13 Gli ipocriti, e i furbi provocan l'ira di Dio, e ridotti in catene non alzan la voce a lui.
14 Therefore they expire in youth, and perish among the reprobate.	14 Moriranno di morte violenta, e la loro vita finirà tragli uomini impuri.
15 But he saves the unfortunate through their affliction, and instructs them through distress.	15 Egli trarrà fuori d'angustia il povero, e nella tribolazione lo istruirà.
	16 Ei ti salverà dalla fossa larga mente angusta, e che non ha fondo sotto di se: ti riposerai alla tua mensa carica di grasse vivande.
	17 La tua causa è stata giudicata come di empio: riceverai secondo i meriti di tua causa.
	18 Non ti soverchi adunque lo sdegno per farti opprimere alcuno, né ti seducano i molti doni.
	19 Umilia senza la sferza la tua grandezza, e tutti quelli, che si fanno forti in lor possanza.
20	20 Non allungare la notte (in pensando), come ne' loro paesi alcuni popoli vanno di bene in meglio.
21 Take heed, turn not to evil; for you have preferred carousal to affliction.	21 Guardati dal torcere il passo verso l'iniquità; perocché questa cominciasti a seguire dopo la tua afflizione.
22 Behold, God is sublime in his power. What teacher is there like him?	22 Rifletti come Dio è eccelso in sua possanza, e nissun de' legislatori è simile a lui.
23 Who prescribes for him his conduct, or who can say, "You have done wrong"?	23 Chi potrà indagar le sue vie? E chi potrà dire a lui, Tu hai fatto ingiustizia?
24 Remember, you should extol his work, which men have praised in song.	24 Ricordati che tu l'opera di lui non comprendi, che fu celebrata dagli uomini.
25 All men contemplate it; man beholds it from afar.	25 Gli uomini tutti lo veggono, ciascuno lo mira da lungi.
26 Lo, God is great beyond our knowledge; the number of his years is past searching out.	26 Certamente Iddio è grande, e sorpassa ogni nostro sapere: e il numero degli anni di lui non può rinvenirsi.
27 He holds in check the waterdrops that filter in rain through his mists,	27 Egli attrae le stille dell'acqua, e versa le piogge come torrenti,
28 Till the skies run with them and the showers rain down on mankind.	28 Che si sciolgono dalle nuvole, onde tutto lassù è coperto.
	29 Quando egli vuole distende le nuvole, come suo padiglione,
30 Lo! he spreads the clouds in layers as the carpeting of his tent.	30 E folgori manda, e i suoi lampi di colassù, e cuopre gli estremi lidi del mare.
31 For by these he nourishes the nations, and gives them food in abundance.	31 Per mezzo di tali cose egli esercita i suoi giudizj sopra le genti, e al gran numero degli uomini da nutrimento.
32 In his hands he holds the lightning, and he commands it to strike the mark.	32 Nelle sue mani nasconde la luce, e le comanda di tornare di nuovo.
33 His thunder speaks for him and incites the fury of the storm.	33 Egli fa intendere a chi lo ama, ch'ell' è suo dominio, e che a quella ei può pervenire.
