NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 Elihu proceeded further and said:	1 Depois Eliú prosseguiu nestes termos:
2 Wait yet a little and I will instruct you, for there are still words to be said on God's behalf.	2 Espera um pouco e te instruirei, tenho ainda palavras em defesa de Deus;
3 I will bring my knowledge from afar, and to my Maker I will accord the right.	3 irei buscar longe a minha ciência, e justificarei meu Criador.
4 For indeed, my theme cannot fail me: the one perfect in knowledge I set before you.	4 Minhas palavras não são certamente mentirosas, estás tratando com um homem de ciência sólida.
5 Behold, God rejects the obstinate in heart; he preserves not the life of the wicked.	5 Deus é poderoso, mas não é arrogante, é poderoso por sua ciência:
6 He withholds not the just man's rights, but grants vindication to the oppressed,	6 não deixa viver o mau, faz justiça aos aflitos,
7 And with kings upon thrones he sets them, exalted forever.	7 não afasta os olhos dos justos; e os faz assentar com os reis no trono, numa glória eterna.
8 Or if they are bound with fetters and held fast by bonds of affliction,	8 Se vierem a cair presos, ou se forem atados com os laços da infelicidade,
9 Then he makes known to them what they have done and their sins of boastful pride.	9 ele lhes faz reconhecer as suas obras, e as faltas que cometeram por orgulho;
10 He opens their ears to correction and exhorts them to turn back from evil.	10 e abre-lhes os ouvidos para corrigi-los, e diz-lhes que renunciem à iniqüidade.
11 If they obey and serve him, they spend their days in prosperity, their years in happiness.	11 Se escutam e obedecem, terminam seus dias na felicidade, e seus anos na delícia;
12 But if they obey not, they perish; they die for lack of knowledge.	12 se não, morrem de um golpe, expiram por falta de sabedoria.
13 The impious in heart lay up anger for themselves; they cry not for help when he enchains them;	13 Os corações ímpios são entregues à cólera; não clamam a Deus quando ele os aprisiona,
14 Therefore they expire in youth, and perish among the reprobate.	14 morrem em plena mocidade, a vida deles passa como a dos efeminados.
15 But he saves the unfortunate through their affliction, and instructs them through distress.	15 Mas Deus salvará o pobre pela sua miséria, e o instrui pelo sofrimento.
	16 A ti também retirará das fauces da angústia, numa larga liberdade, e no repouso de uma mesa bem guarnecida.
	17 E tu te comportas como um malvado, com o risco de incorrer em sentença e penalidade.
	18 Toma cuidado para que a cólera não te inflija um castigo, e que o tamanho do resgate não te perca.
	19 Levará ele em conta teu grito na aflição, e todos os esforços do vigor?
20	20 Não suspires pela noite, para que os povos voltem para seus lugares.
21 Take heed, turn not to evil; for you have preferred carousal to affliction.	21 Guarda-te de declinar para a iniqüidade, e de preferir a injustiça ao sofrimento.
22 Behold, God is sublime in his power. What teacher is there like him?	22 Vê, Deus é sublime em seu poder. Que senhor lhe é comparável?
23 Who prescribes for him his conduct, or who can say, "You have done wrong"?	23 Quem lhe fixou seu caminho? Quem pode dizer-lhe: Fizeste mal?
24 Remember, you should extol his work, which men have praised in song.	24 Antes pensa em glorificar sua obra, que os humanos celebram em seus cantos.
25 All men contemplate it; man beholds it from afar.	25 Todos os homens a contemplam; o mortal a considera de longe.
26 Lo, God is great beyond our knowledge; the number of his years is past searching out.	26 Deus é grande demais para que o possamos conhecer; o número de seus anos é incalculável.
27 He holds in check the waterdrops that filter in rain through his mists,	27 Atrai as gotinhas de água para transformá-las em chuva no nevoeiro,
28 Till the skies run with them and the showers rain down on mankind.	28 as nuvens as espalham, e as destilam sobre a multidão dos homens.
	29 Quem pode compreender como se estendem as nuvens, e o estrépito de sua tenda?
30 Lo! he spreads the clouds in layers as the carpeting of his tent.	30 Espalha em volta dele a sua luz, e cobre os cimos das montanhas.
31 For by these he nourishes the nations, and gives them food in abundance.	31 É por esse meio que nutre os povos, e fornece-lhes abundância de alimentos.
32 In his hands he holds the lightning, and he commands it to strike the mark.	32 Nas suas mãos estende o raio, fixa-lhe o alvo a atingir;
33 His thunder speaks for him and incites the fury of the storm.	33 seu estrondo o anuncia, o rebanho também anuncia aquele que se aproxima.
