Job 33

1 Therefore, O Job, hear my discourse, and hearken to all my words.	1 « Ascolta dunque, o Giobbe, le mie parole, e poni mente a tutti i miei discorsi.
2 Behold, now I open my mouth; my tongue and my voice form words.	2 Ecco, ho aperta la mia bocca, la mia lingua già parla sotto il mio palato,
3 I will state directly what is in my mind, my lips shall utter knowledge sincerely;	3 i miei discorsi verranno da un cuore schietto, e le mie labbra proferiranno la pura verità.
4 For the spirit of God has made me, the breath of the Almighty keeps me alive.	4 Lo Spirito di Dio mi ha fatto, e il soffio dell'Onnipotente mi ha dato la vita.
5 If you are able, refute me; draw up your arguments and stand forth.	5 Se puoi, rispondimi, e stai pronto a contraddirmi.
6 Behold I, like yourself, have been taken from the same clay by God.	6 Ecco, Dio ha fatto me come te, e anch'io sono stato formato del medesimo fango:
7 Therefore no fear of me should dismay you, nor should my presence weigh heavily upon you.	7 quindi ciò che v'ha di mirabile in me non ti spaventi, e la mia eloquenza non ti sia grave.
8 But you have said in my hearing, as I listened to the sound of your words:	8 Tu dunque hai detto in mia presenza, ed io ho ben sentito il suono delle tue parole:
9 "I am clean and without transgression; I am innocent; there is no guilt in me.	9 Io sono puro e senza peccato, sono immacolato, e in me non v'è iniquità.
10 Yet he invents pretexts against me and reckons me as his enemy.	10 Egli ha trovato dei pretesti contro di me, e mi ha considerato come suo nemico.
11 He puts my feet in the stocks; he watches all my ways!"	11 Ha posto i miei piedi nei ceppi, ha spiate tutte le mie vie.
12 In this you are not just, let me tell you; for God is greater than man.	12 In questo però tu non hai ragione, ed io ti risponderò che Dio è più grande dell'uomo.
13 Why, then, do you make complaint against him that he gives no account of his doings?	13 Tu te la rendi contro Dio, perchè egli non ha risposto a tutte le tue parole?
14 For God does speak, perhaps once, or even twice, though one perceive it not.	14 Dio parla una volta sola, e non ripete una seconda volta ciò che ha detto.
15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, (when deep sleep falls upon men) as they slumber in their beds,	15 Nei sogni, nelle visioni notturne, quando il sonno discende sopra gli uomini ed essi dormono nel loro letto,
16 It is then he opens the ears of men and as a warning to them, terrifies them;	16 allora egli apre agli uomini le orecchie, li istruisce e insegna loro la scienza,
17 By turning man from evil and keeping pride away from him,	17 per distogliere l'uomo da quello che fa e liberarlo dalla superbia,
18 He withholds his soul from the pit and his life from passing to the grave.	18 per salvare la sua anima dalla corruzione e la sua vita dalla spada.
19 Or a man is chastened on his bed by pain and unceasing suffering within his frame,	19 Lo riprende pure per mezzo del dolore sul suo letto, e fa imputridire tutte le sue ossa.
20 So that to his appetite food becomes repulsive, and his senses reject the choicest nourishment.	20 In questo stato egli ha in orrore il pane, e l'anima sua anche il cibo prima tanto desiderato.
21 His flesh is wasted so that it cannot be seen, and his bones, once invisible, appear;	21 La sua carne si va consumando e le ossa, prima coperte, appaion nude.
22 His soul draws near to the pit, his life to the place of the dead.	22 La sua anima si avvicina alla corruzione, e la sua vita agli apportatori della morte.
23 If then there be for him an angel, one out of a thousand, a mediator, To show him what is right for him and bring the man back to justice,	23 Se parlerà in suo favore un angelo, uno delle migliaia destinati ad annunziare all'uomo il dovere,
24 He will take pity on him and say, "Deliver him from going down to the pit; I have found him a ransom."	24 Egli ne avrà pietà e dirà: Liberalo, affinchè non scenda nella corruzione: ho trovato motivi d'essergli propizio:
25 Then his flesh shall become soft as a boy's; he shall be again as in the days of his youth.	25 sia sua carne è stata consunta dai supplizi: si torni ai giorni della sua giovinezza.
26 He shall pray and God will favor him; he shall see God's face with rejoicing.	26 Egli pregherà Dio, e Dio gli sarà propizio; egli vedrà con gioia la sua faccia, e Dio renderà all'uomo la sua giustizia:
27 He shall sing before men and say, "I sinned and did wrong, yet he has not punished me accordingly.	27 egli si volgerà agli uomini e dirà: Peccai, veramente mancai, e non sono stato punito secondo il mio merito.
28 He delivered my soul from passing to the pit, and I behold the light of life."	28 È libererà l'anima sua dal cader nella morte, per vivere e vedere la luce.
29 Lo, all these things God does, twice, or thrice, for a man,	29 Ecco, Dio fa tutte queste cose per tre volte con ciascuno,
30 Bringing back his soul from the pit to the light, in the land of the living.	30 affine di richiamare le anime degli uomini dalla corruzione e irraggiarle colla luce dei viventi.
31 Be attentive, O Job; listen to me! Be silent and I will speak.	31 Sta' attento, o Giobbe, sfammi a sentire, e taci mentre io parlo.
32 If you have aught to say, then answer me. Speak out! I should like to see you justified.	32 Se poi hai qualche cosa da dire, rispondimi e parla, perchè io voglio che tu comparisca giusto.
33 If not, then do you listen to me; be silent while I teach you wisdom.	33 Ma se non hai nulla, ascoltami, e taci; chè io t'insegnerò la sapienza ».
