Job 33

1 Therefore, O Job, hear my discourse, and hearken to all my words.	1 Ascolta, dunque, Giobbe, le mie parole, presta orecchio a tutti i miei detti!
2 Behold, now I open my mouth; my tongue and my voice form words.	2 Ecco, apro la mia bocca, parla la mia lingua entro il mio palato.
3 I will state directly what is in my mind, my lips shall utter knowledge sincerely;	3 Parlo con cuore sincero; le mie labbra diranno la pura verità.
4 For the spirit of God has made me, the breath of the Almighty keeps me alive.	4 Lo spirito di Dio mi ha fatto, e il soffio dell'Onnipotente mi ha dato la vita.
5 If you are able, refute me; draw up your arguments and stand forth.	5 Se puoi, rispondimi; preparati pure a resistermi.
6 Behold I, like yourself, have been taken from the same clay by God.	6 Ecco, io sono tuo eguale davanti a Dio; anch'io sono stato tratto dal fango.
7 Therefore no fear of me should dismay you, nor should my presence weigh heavily upon you.	7 Così non avrai timore di me, né graverà su di te la mia autorità.
8 But you have said in my hearing, as I listened to the sound of your words:	8 Tu hai ben detto alle mie orecchie, e ho udito il suono delle tue parole:
9 "I am clean and without transgression; I am innocent; there is no guilt in me.	9 "Puro sono io, senza peccato, sono innocente, non ho colpa!
10 Yet he invents pretexts against me and reckons me as his enemy.	10 Eppure Dio trova pretesti contro di me, e mi considera come suo nemico;
11 He puts my feet in the stocks; he watches all my ways!"	11 pone in ceppi i miei piedi e scruta tutti i miei passi".
12 In this you are not just, let me tell you; for God is greater than man.	12 Ebbene, in questo non hai ragione, io ti rispondo, perché Dio è più grande dell'uomo.
13 Why, then, do you make complaint against him that he gives no account of his doings?	13 Perché gli hai intentato un processo, dato che non risponde ad ogni tua parola?
14 For God does speak, perhaps once, or even twice, though one perceive it not.	14 Dio sa parlare in un modo o in un altro e nessuno fa attenzione:
15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, (when deep sleep falls upon men) as they slumber in their beds,	15 nel sogno, in una visione notturna, quando il torpore piomba sugli uomini, addormentati nel loro giaciglio.
16 It is then he opens the ears of men and as a warning to them, terrifies them;	16 Allora egli apre l'orecchio degli uomini e vi sigilla gli avvertimenti che rivolge loro,
17 By turning man from evil and keeping pride away from him,	17 per distogliere l'uomo dalle sue cattive azioni e preservare il mortale dall'orgoglio,
18 He withholds his soul from the pit and his life from passing to the grave.	18 per impedirgli di cadere nella fossa e di passare il canale.
19 Or a man is chastened on his bed by pain and unceasing suffering within his frame,	19 Lo corregge pure sul suo letto con il dolore e con l'incessante tortura delle sue ossa,
20 So that to his appetite food becomes repulsive, and his senses reject the choicest nourishment.	20 quando ha nausea del cibo e gli ripugna la vivanda delicata;
21 His flesh is wasted so that it cannot be seen, and his bones, once invisible, appear;	21 quando la sua carne si consuma a vista d'occhio e le ossa, che non si vedevano prima, spuntano fuori.
22 His soul draws near to the pit, his life to the place of the dead.	22 Allora la sua esistenza si avvicina alla fossa e la sua vita agli sterminatori.
23 If then there be for him an angel, one out of a thousand, a mediator, To show him what is right for him and bring the man back to justice,	23 Se c'è con lui un angelo, un solo intercessore tra mille, per annunciare all'uomo il suo dovere,
24 He will take pity on him and say, "Deliver him from going down to the pit; I have found him a ransom."	24 che abbia compassione di lui e dica: "Preservalo dallo scendere nella fossa; ho trovato per lui il riscatto!".
25 Then his flesh shall become soft as a boy's; he shall be again as in the days of his youth.	25 Allora la sua carne sarà più florida che in gioventù, tornerà ai giorni della sua adolescenza;
26 He shall pray and God will favor him; he shall see God's face with rejoicing.	26 invocherà Dio che gli sarà propizio, gridando di gioia vedrà la sua faccia; canterà agli uomini la propria salvezza.
27 He shall sing before men and say, "I sinned and did wrong, yet he has not punished me accordingly.	27 Rivolgendosi agli uomini dirà: "Ho peccato e violato la giustizia, ma Dio non si è comportato con me come meritavo.
28 He delivered my soul from passing to the pit, and I behold the light of life."	28 Mi ha scampato dalla fossa e la mia vita contempla la luce".
29 Lo, all these things God does, twice, or thrice, for a man,	29 Ecco, Dio fa tutto questo, due volte, tre volte con l'uomo,
30 Bringing back his soul from the pit to the light, in the land of the living.	30 per sottrarlo vivo dalla fossa e illuminarlo con la luce dei viventi.
31 Be attentive, O Job; listen to me! Be silent and I will speak.	31 Giobbe, sta' attento, ascoltami, sta' in silenzio e io parlerò.
32 If you have aught to say, then answer me. Speak out! I should like to see you justified.	32 Se hai qualcosa da dire, rispondimi; parla, perché vorrei darti ragione.
33 If not, then do you listen to me; be silent while I teach you wisdom.	33 Se non ne hai, ascoltami; taci, e io ti insegnerò la sapienza".
