Job 33

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Therefore, O Job, hear my discourse, and hearken to all my words.	1 ¡Vamos, Job, escucha mis palabras, oye atentamente lo que voy a decir!
2 Behold, now I open my mouth; my tongue and my voice form words.	2 Ya ves que he abierto mi boca, mi lengua ha comenzado a hablar.
3 I will state directly what is in my mind, my lips shall utter knowledge sincerely;	3 Mi corazón desborda de palabras sabias, mis labios dirán la pura verdad.
4 For the spirit of God has made me, the breath of the Almighty keeps me alive.	4 A mí me hizo el soplo de Dios, el aliento del Todopoderoso me dio la vida.
5 If you are able, refute me; draw up your arguments and stand forth.	5 Respóndeme, si eres capaz; prepárate, y toma posición ante mí.
6 Behold I, like yourself, have been taken from the same clay by God.	6 Para Dios, yo soy igual que tú, yo también fui modelado de la arcilla.
7 Therefore no fear of me should dismay you, nor should my presence weigh heavily upon you.	7 Por eso, no te espantará el temor a mí ni el peso de mi mano te abrumará.
8 But you have said in my hearing, as I listened to the sound of your words:	8 Sí, tú has dicho a mis oídos –yo escuché el sonido de tus palabras–:
9 "I am clean and without transgression; I am innocent; there is no guilt in me.	9 «Soy puro, no cometí ninguna falta; estoy limpio y libre de culpa;
10 Yet he invents pretexts against me and reckons me as his enemy.	10 sin embargo él encuentra pretextos contra mí y me considera su enemigo:
11 He puts my feet in the stocks; he watches all my ways!"	11 Pone mis pies en el cepo y vigila todos mis pasos».
12 In this you are not just, let me tell you; for God is greater than man.	12 Pero yo te respondo: En esto no tienen razón, porque Dios es más grande que el hombre.
13 Why, then, do you make complaint against him that he gives no account of his doings?	13 ¿Por qué pretendes litigar con él como si no respondiera a ninguna de tus palabras?
14 For God does speak, perhaps once, or even twice, though one perceive it not.	14 En realidad, Dios habla una vez, y luego otra, sin que se preste atención.
15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, (when deep sleep falls upon men) as they slumber in their beds,	15 En un sueño, en una visión nocturna, cuando un profundo sopor invade a los hombres y ellos están dormidos en su lecho,
16 It is then he opens the ears of men and as a warning to them, terrifies them;	16 entonces, él se revela a los mortales y los atemoriza con apariciones,
17 By turning man from evil and keeping pride away from him,	17 para apartar al hombre de sus malas obras y extirpar el orgullo del mortal;
18 He withholds his soul from the pit and his life from passing to the grave.	18 para preservar su alma de la Fosa] y su vida, del Canal subterráneo.
19 Or a man is chastened on his bed by pain and unceasing suffering within his frame,	19 También lo corrige en su lecho por el sufrimiento, cuando sus huesos tiemblan sin cesar:
20 So that to his appetite food becomes repulsive, and his senses reject the choicest nourishment.	20 el hombre siente náusea de la comida y pierde el gusto por los manjares apetecibles;
21 His flesh is wasted so that it cannot be seen, and his bones, once invisible, appear;	21 su carne desaparece de las miradas y se trasparentan sus huesos, que antes no se veían;
22 His soul draws near to the pit, his life to the place of the dead.	22 su alma se acerca a la Fosa y su vida, a las aguas de la Muerte.
23 If then there be for him an angel, one out of a thousand, a mediator, To show him what is right for him and bring the man back to justice,	23 Si hay un ángel junto a él, un intérprete, uno entre mil, para indicarle al hombre su deber;
24 He will take pity on him and say, "Deliver him from going down to the pit; I have found him a ransom."	24 si él tiene compasión y dice: «Líbralo de bajar a la Fosa, yo he encontrado un rescate».
25 Then his flesh shall become soft as a boy's; he shall be again as in the days of his youth.	25 entonces su carne recupera la frescura juvenil y él vuelve a los días de su adolescencia;
26 He shall pray and God will favor him; he shall see God's face with rejoicing.	26 invoca a Dios, que se le muestra propicio, contempla su rostro con gritos de alegría, anuncia a los demás su salvación,
27 He shall sing before men and say, "I sinned and did wrong, yet he has not punished me accordingly.	27 y entona, entre los hombres, este canto: «Yo había pecado y tergiversado el derecho, pero él no me trató como correspondía;
28 He delivered my soul from passing to the pit, and I behold the light of life."	28 ¡libró mi alma de pasar por la Fosa y mi vida contempla la luz!».
29 Lo, all these things God does, twice, or thrice, for a man,	29 Todo esto es lo que hace Dios, dos y tres veces, en favor del hombre,
30 Bringing back his soul from the pit to the light, in the land of the living.	30 para hacer volver su vida de la Fosa e iluminarlo con la luz de los vivientes.
31 Be attentive, O Job; listen to me! Be silent and I will speak.	31 Atiende, Job, escúchame; cállate, y yo hablaré.
32 If you have aught to say, then answer me. Speak out! I should like to see you justified.	32 Si tienes algo que decir, replícame, habla, porque yo quisiera darte la razón.
33 If not, then do you listen to me; be silent while I teach you wisdom.	33 De lo contrario, escúchame; cállate, y te enseñaré la sabiduría.
