Job 33

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 Therefore, O Job, hear my discourse, and hearken to all my words.	1 E agora, Jó, escuta minhas palavras, dá ouvidos a todos os meus discursos.
2 Behold, now I open my mouth; my tongue and my voice form words.	2 Eis que abro a boca, minha língua, sob o céu da boca, vai falar.
3 I will state directly what is in my mind, my lips shall utter knowledge sincerely;	3 Minhas palavras brotam de um coração reto, meus lábios falarão francamente.
4 For the spirit of God has made me, the breath of the Almighty keeps me alive.	4 O Espírito de Deus me criou, e o sopro do Todo-poderoso me deu a vida.
5 If you are able, refute me; draw up your arguments and stand forth.	5 Se puderes, responde-me; toma posição, fica firme diante de mim.
6 Behold I, like yourself, have been taken from the same clay by God.	6 Em face de Deus sou teu igual: como tu mesmo, fui formado de barro.
7 Therefore no fear of me should dismay you, nor should my presence weigh heavily upon you.	7 Assim meu temor não te assustará e o peso de minhas palavras não te acabrunhará.
8 But you have said in my hearing, as I listened to the sound of your words:	8 Ora, disseste aos meus ouvidos, e ouvi estas palavras:
9 "I am clean and without transgression; I am innocent; there is no guilt in me.	9 Sou puro, sem pecado; sou limpo, não há culpa em mim.
10 Yet he invents pretexts against me and reckons me as his enemy.	10 É ele que inventa pretextos contra mim, considera-me seu inimigo.
11 He puts my feet in the stocks; he watches all my ways!"	11 Pôs meus pés no cepo, espiou todos os meus passos.
12 In this you are not just, let me tell you; for God is greater than man.	12 Responderei que nisto foste injusto, pois Deus é maior do que o homem.
13 Why, then, do you make complaint against him that he gives no account of his doings?	13 Por que o acusas de não dar nenhuma resposta a teus discursos?
14 For God does speak, perhaps once, or even twice, though one perceive it not.	14 Pois Deus fala de uma maneira e de outra e não prestas atenção.
15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, (when deep sleep falls upon men) as they slumber in their beds,	15 Por meio dos sonhos, das visões noturnas, quando um sono profundo pesa sobre os humanos, enquanto o homem está adormecido em seu leito,
16 It is then he opens the ears of men and as a warning to them, terrifies them;	16 então abre o ouvido do homem e o assusta com suas aparições,
17 By turning man from evil and keeping pride away from him,	17 a fim de desviá-lo do pecado e de preservá-lo do orgulho,
18 He withholds his soul from the pit and his life from passing to the grave.	18 para salvar-lhe a alma do fosso, e sua vida, da seta mortífera.
19 Or a man is chastened on his bed by pain and unceasing suffering within his frame,	19 Pela dor também é instruído o homem em seu leito, quando todos os seus membros são agitados,
20 So that to his appetite food becomes repulsive, and his senses reject the choicest nourishment.	20 quando recebe o alimento com desgosto, e já não pode suportar as iguarias mais deliciosas;
21 His flesh is wasted so that it cannot be seen, and his bones, once invisible, appear;	21 sua carne some aos olhares, seus membros emagrecidos se desvanecem;
22 His soul draws near to the pit, his life to the place of the dead.	22 sua alma aproxima-se da sepultura, e sua vida, daqueles que estão mortos.
23 If then there be for him an angel, one out of a thousand, a mediator, To show him what is right for him and bring the man back to justice,	23 Se perto dele se encontrar um anjo, um intercessor entre mil, para ensinar-lhe o que deve fazer,
24 He will take pity on him and say, "Deliver him from going down to the pit; I have found him a ransom."	24 ter piedade dele e dizer: Poupai-o de descer à sepultura, recebi o resgate de sua vida;
25 Then his flesh shall become soft as a boy's; he shall be again as in the days of his youth.	25 sua carne retomará o vigor da mocidade, retornará aos dias de sua adolescência.
26 He shall pray and God will favor him; he shall see God's face with rejoicing.	26 Ele reza, e Deus lhe é propício, contempla-lhe a face com alegria. Anuncia {Deus} ao homem sua justiça;
27 He shall sing before men and say, "I sinned and did wrong, yet he has not punished me accordingly.	27 canta diante dos homens, dizendo: Pequei, violei o direito, e Deus não me tratou conforme meus erros;
28 He delivered my soul from passing to the pit, and I behold the light of life."	28 poupou minha alma de descer à sepultura, e minha alma bem viva goza a luz.
29 Lo, all these things God does, twice, or thrice, for a man,	29 Eis o que Deus faz duas, três vezes para o homem,
30 Bringing back his soul from the pit to the light, in the land of the living.	30 a fim de tirar-lhe a alma da sepultura, para iluminá-la com a luz dos vivos.
31 Be attentive, O Job; listen to me! Be silent and I will speak.	31 Presta atenção, Jó, escuta-me; cala a boca para que eu fale.
32 If you have aught to say, then answer me. Speak out! I should like to see you justified.	32 Se tens alguma coisa para dizer, responde-me; fala, eu gostaria de te dar razão.
33 If not, then do you listen to me; be silent while I teach you wisdom.	33 Se não, escuta-me, cala-te, e eu te ensinarei a sabedoria.
