Job 33

1 Therefore, O Job, hear my discourse, and hearken to all my words.	1 Ascolta adunque, o Giobbe, il mio ragionare, e pon mente a tutte le mie parole.
2 Behold, now I open my mouth; my tongue and my voice form words.	2 Apro adesso la mia bocca, la mia lingua articola le voci sotto del mio palato.
3 I will state directly what is in my mind, my lips shall utter knowledge sincerely;	3 I miei parlari verranno da cuore schietto, e le mie labbra proferiranno sentimenti di verità.
4 For the spirit of God has made me, the breath of the Almighty keeps me alive.	4 Lo spirito di Dio mi creò, e il soffio dell'Onnipotente mi diede la vita.
5 If you are able, refute me; draw up your arguments and stand forth.	5 Rispondimi se potrai, e contraddicimi in faccia.
6 Behold I, like yourself, have been taken from the same clay by God.	6 Tu vedi, che me come te fece Dio, e che io pure fui formato del medesimo fango.
7 Therefore no fear of me should dismay you, nor should my presence weigh heavily upon you.	7 Ma i miei prodigj non ti recheranno terrore, né ti sbalordirà la mia eloquenza.
8 But you have said in my hearing, as I listened to the sound of your words:	8 Tu adunque di mia sentita dicesti, e il suono di queste parole fu udito da me:
9 "I am clean and without transgression; I am innocent; there is no guilt in me.	9 Mondo son io, e senza reato; immacolato, e scevro di iniquità.
10 Yet he invents pretexts against me and reckons me as his enemy.	10 Perché ha trovate querele contro di me, per questo mi ha riguardata come suo nimico.
11 He puts my feet in the stocks; he watches all my ways!"	11 Ha posti ne' ceppi i miei piedi ha osservati tutti i miei andamenti.
12 In this you are not just, let me tell you; for God is greater than man.	12 In questo adunque tu non se' stato giusto: io ti risponderò, che Dio è più grande dell'uomo.
13 Why, then, do you make complaint against him that he gives no account of his doings?	13 Con lui tu vieni a contesa, perché egli non ha risposto a tutte le tue parole?
14 For God does speak, perhaps once, or even twice, though one perceive it not.	14 Dio parla una volta, e la stessa cosa non ripete due volte.
15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, (when deep sleep falls upon men) as they slumber in their beds,	15 In sogno, con notturne visioni, quando gli uomini vinti dal sonno riposano ne' loro letti,
16 It is then he opens the ears of men and as a warning to them, terrifies them;	16 Allora egli apre agli uomini le orecchie, e gli istruisce, e li corregge,
17 By turning man from evil and keeping pride away from him,	17 Per ritrar l'uomo da quel ch'ei fa, e liberarlo dalla superbia:
18 He withholds his soul from the pit and his life from passing to the grave.	18 Salvando l'anima di lui dalla corruzione, e la sua vita dal taglio della spada.
19 Or a man is chastened on his bed by pain and unceasing suffering within his frame,	19 Egli parimente lo corregge nel letto co' dolori, e fa marcir le sue ossa.
20 So that to his appetite food becomes repulsive, and his senses reject the choicest nourishment.	20 In questo suo stato egli ha in orrore il pane, e il cibo una volta si grato al suo appetito.
21 His flesh is wasted so that it cannot be seen, and his bones, once invisible, appear;	21 La carne di lui si va consumando, e le ossa prima ascose rimangono scoperte.
22 His soul draws near to the pit, his life to the place of the dead.	22 Egli si avvicina alla corruzione, e la sua vita da tutti i segni di morte.
23 If then there be for him an angel, one out of a thousand, a mediator, To show him what is right for him and bring the man back to justice,	23 Se uno delle migliaia di Angeli per lui parlerà, e lo istruirà de' doveri dell'uomo,
24 He will take pity on him and say, "Deliver him from going down to the pit; I have found him a ransom."	24 Egli avrà compassione di lui, e dirà: Salvalo dal cadere nella corru zione: ho trovato motivo onde averne pietà.
25 Then his flesh shall become soft as a boy's; he shall be again as in the days of his youth.	25 La sua carne è stata consunta dai malori: ch'ei ritorni come ne' giorni di sua giovinezza.
26 He shall pray and God will favor him; he shall see God's face with rejoicing.	26 Egli porgerà a Dio sue preghiere; e questi con lui si placherà, è con lieta faccia lo mirerà, e renderà all'uomo la sua giustizia.
27 He shall sing before men and say, "I sinned and did wrong, yet he has not punished me accordingly.	27 E rivolto agli uomini dirà egli: Io peccai, e prevaricai veramente, e non fui punito com'io meritava.
28 He delivered my soul from passing to the pit, and I behold the light of life."	28 Egli ha liberata l'anima sua dal cader nella morte, e viverà, e goderà della luce:
29 Lo, all these things God does, twice, or thrice, for a man,	29 Così Dio tutte queste cose fa per tre volte con ciascheduno:
30 Bringing back his soul from the pit to the light, in the land of the living.	30 Per richiamare le anime loro dalla corruzione, e rischiararle colla luce de' viventi.
31 Be attentive, O Job; listen to me! Be silent and I will speak.	31 Pon mente, o Giobbe, e ascoltami, e taci mentre io parlo.
32 If you have aught to say, then answer me. Speak out! I should like to see you justified.	32 Che se qualche cosa hai da dire rispondimi, e parla; perocché io desidero, che tu comparisca giusto.
33 If not, then do you listen to me; be silent while I teach you wisdom.	33 Ma se non hai nulla, ascoltami: taci, e ti insegnerò la saggezza.
