NEW AMERICAN BIBLENOVA VULGATA
1 God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them: "Be fertile and multiply and fill the earth.1 Benedixitque Deus Noe et filiis eius et dixit ad eos: “Crescite et multiplicamini et implete terram.
2 Dread fear of you shall come upon all the animals of the earth and all the birds of the air, upon all the creatures that move about on the ground and all the fishes of the sea; into your power they are delivered.2 Et terror vester ac tremor sit super cuncta animalia terrae et super omnes volucres caeli cum universis, quae moventur super terram; omnes pisces maris manui vestrae traditi sunt.
3 Every creature that is alive shall be yours to eat; I give them all to you as I did the green plants.3 Omne, quod movetur et vivit, erit vobis in cibum; quasi holera virentia tradidi vobis omnia,
4 Only flesh with its lifeblood still in it you shall not eat.4 excepto quod carnem cum anima, quae est in sanguine, non comedetis.
5 For your own lifeblood, too, I will demand an accounting: from every animal I will demand it, and from man in regard to his fellow man I will demand an accounting for human life.5 Sanguinem enim animarum vestrarum requiram de manu cunctarum bestiarum; et de manu hominis, de manu viri fratris eius requiram animam hominis.
6 If anyone sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed; For in the image of God has man been made.6 Quicumque effuderit humanum sanguinem,
per hominem fundetur sanguis illius;
ad imaginem quippe Dei
factus est homo.
7 Be fertile, then, and multiply; abound on earth and subdue it."7 Vos autem crescite et multiplicamini et pullulate super terram et dominamini ei”.
8 God said to Noah and to his sons with him:8 Haec quoque dixit Deus ad Noe et ad filios eius cum eo:
9 "See, I am now establishing my covenant with you and your descendants after you9 “Ecce ego statuam pactum meum vobiscum et cum semine vestro post vos
10 and with every living creature that was with you: all the birds, and the various tame and wild animals that were with you and came out of the ark.10 et ad omnem animam viventem, quae est vobiscum tam in volucribus quam in iumentis et in omnibus bestiis terrae, quae sunt vobiscum, cunctis, quae egressa sunt de arca, universis bestiis terrae.
11 I will establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all bodily creatures be destroyed by the waters of a flood; there shall not be another flood to devastate the earth."11 Statuam pactum meum vobiscum; et nequaquam ultra interficietur omnis caro aquis diluvii, neque erit deinceps diluvium dissipans terram”.
12 God added: "This is the sign that I am giving for all ages to come, of the covenant between me and you and every living creature with you:12 Dixitque Deus: “Hoc signum foederis, quod do inter me et vos et ad omnem animam viventem, quae est vobiscum, in generationes sempiternas:
13 I set my bow in the clouds to serve as a sign of the covenant between me and the earth.13 arcum meum ponam in nubibus, et erit signum foederis inter me et inter terram.
14 When I bring clouds over the earth, and the bow appears in the clouds,14 Cumque obduxero nubibus caelum, apparebit arcus meus in nubibus,
15 I will recall the covenant I have made between me and you and all living beings, so that the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all mortal beings.15 et recordabor foederis mei vobiscum et cum omni anima vivente, quae carnem vegetat; et non erunt ultra aquae diluvii ad delendum universam carnem.
16 As the bow appears in the clouds, I will see it and recall the everlasting covenant that I have established between God and all living beings--all mortal creatures that are on earth."16 Eritque arcus in nubibus, et videbo illum et recordabor foederis sempiterni, quod pactum est inter Deum et omnem animam viventem universae carnis, quae est super terram”.
17 God told Noah: "This is the sign of the covenant I have established between me and all mortal creatures that are on earth."17 Dixitque Deus ad Noe: “Hoc erit signum foederis, quod constitui inter me et omnem carnem super terram”.
18 The sons of Noah who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham and Japheth. (Ham was the father of Canaan.)18 Erant ergo filii Noe, qui egressi sunt de arca, Sem, Cham et Iapheth. Porro Cham ipse est pater Chanaan.
19 These three were the sons of Noah, and from them the whole earth was peopled.19 Tres isti filii sunt Noe, et ab his disseminatum est omne hominum genus super universam terram.
20 Now Noah, a man of the soil, was the first to plant a vineyard.20 Coepitque Noe agricola plantare vineam;
21 When he drank some of the wine, he became drunk and lay naked inside his tent.21 bibensque vinum inebriatus est et nudatus in tabernaculo suo.
22 Ham, the father of Canaan, saw his father's nakedness, and he told his two brothers outside about it.22 Quod cum vidisset Cham pater Chanaan, verenda scilicet patris sui esse nudata, nuntiavit duobus fratribus suis foras.
23 Shem and Japheth, however, took a robe, and holding it on their backs, they walked backward and covered their father's nakedness; since their faces were turned the other way, they did not see their father's nakedness.23 At vero Sem et Iapheth pallium imposuerunt umeris suis et incedentes retrorsum operuerunt verecunda patris sui, faciesque eorum aversae erant, et patris virilia non viderunt.
24 When Noah woke up from his drunkenness and learned what his youngest son had done to him,24 Evigilans autem Noe ex vino, cum didicisset, quae fecerat ei filius suus minor,
25 he said: "Cursed be Caanan! The lowest of slaves shall he be to his brothers."25 ait:
Maledictus Chanaan!
Servus servorum erit fratribus suis”.
26 He also said: "Blessed be the LORD, the God of Shem! Let Canaan be his slave.26 Dixitque:
Benedictus Dominus Deus Sem!
Sitque Chanaan servus eius.
27 May God expand Japheth, so that he dwells among the tents of Shem; and let Canaan be his slave."27 Dilatet Deus Iapheth,
et habitet in tabernaculis Sem,
sitque Chanaan servus eius”.
28 Noah lived three hundred and fifty years after the flood.28 Vixit autem Noe post diluvium trecentis quinquaginta annis.
29 The whole lifetime of Noah was nine hundred and fifty years; then he died.29 Et impleti sunt omnes dies eius nongentorum quinquaginta annorum, et mortuus est.
