1 God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them: "Be fertile and multiply and fill the earth.	1 Dieu bénit Noé et ses fils, il leur dit: “Soyez féconds et nombreux, remplissez la terre.
2 Dread fear of you shall come upon all the animals of the earth and all the birds of the air, upon all the creatures that move about on the ground and all the fishes of the sea; into your power they are delivered.	2 Vous inspirerez crainte ou terreur à tous les animaux de la terre et aux oiseaux du ciel. Tout ce qui foisonne sur la terre est à votre disposition, et de même les poissons de la mer: prenez-en.
3 Every creature that is alive shall be yours to eat; I give them all to you as I did the green plants.	3 Tout ce qui bouge et vit sera votre nourriture, je vous le donne tout comme les légumes.
4 Only flesh with its lifeblood still in it you shall not eat.	4 Cependant vous ne mangerez pas la chair avec son âme, c’est-à-dire le sang.
5 For your own lifeblood, too, I will demand an accounting: from every animal I will demand it, and from man in regard to his fellow man I will demand an accounting for human life.	5 Je demanderai compte de votre sang - de votre âme - à tout animal; et pour les hommes entre eux, je demanderai compte à chacun de l’âme de son frère. De l’âme de tout homme, je demanderai compte.
6 If anyone sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed; For in the image of God has man been made.	6 Si quelqu’un répand le sang de l’homme, son sang aussi sera répandu par l’homme, car Dieu a créé l’homme à son image.
7 Be fertile, then, and multiply; abound on earth and subdue it."	7 Quant à vous, soyez féconds, nombreux, développez-vous sur la terre et dominez sur elle.”
8 God said to Noah and to his sons with him:	8 Dieu adressa la parole à Noé et à ses fils:
9 "See, I am now establishing my covenant with you and your descendants after you	9 “Voici que j’établis mon alliance avec vous et avec votre descendance après vous,
10 and with every living creature that was with you: all the birds, and the various tame and wild animals that were with you and came out of the ark.	10 avec tous les êtres vivants qui sont avec vous: oiseaux, animaux des champs et bêtes de la terre qui vivent autour de vous, tous ces animaux de la terre qui sont sortis de l’arche.
11 I will establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all bodily creatures be destroyed by the waters of a flood; there shall not be another flood to devastate the earth."	11 Oui, j’établis mon alliance avec vous: on ne verra plus tous les êtres vivants supprimés de la terre par les eaux d’un déluge; il n’y aura plus de déluge pour ravager la terre.”
12 God added: "This is the sign that I am giving for all ages to come, of the covenant between me and you and every living creature with you:	12 Et Dieu dit: “Voici le signe de l’alliance que j’établis entre moi et vous et tous les êtres vivants qui sont avec vous pour les générations à venir.
13 I set my bow in the clouds to serve as a sign of the covenant between me and the earth.	13 Je place mon arc dans la nuée pour qu’il soit le signe de l’alliance entre moi et la terre.
14 When I bring clouds over the earth, and the bow appears in the clouds,	14 Lorsque je couvrirai la terre de nuages, l’arc apparaîtra dans le ciel.
15 I will recall the covenant I have made between me and you and all living beings, so that the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all mortal beings.	15 Alors je me souviendrai de l’alliance que j’ai établie entre moi et vous et tout être vivant, et on ne verra plus des eaux de déluge détruire toute chair.
16 As the bow appears in the clouds, I will see it and recall the everlasting covenant that I have established between God and all living beings--all mortal creatures that are on earth."	16 L’arc-en-ciel sera dans la nuée: je le verrai et je me souviendrai de l’alliance perpétuelle entre Dieu et tout être qui vit sur la terre.”
17 God told Noah: "This is the sign of the covenant I have established between me and all mortal creatures that are on earth."	17 Dieu dit à Noé: “Voici le signe de l’alliance que j’ai établie entre moi et tout ce qui vit sur la terre.”
18 The sons of Noah who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham and Japheth. (Ham was the father of Canaan.)	18 Les fils de Noé qui sortirent de l’arche étaient Sem, Kam et Japhet. Kam est le père de Canaan.
19 These three were the sons of Noah, and from them the whole earth was peopled.	19 Ces trois-là sont les fils de Noé, et c’est par eux que fut peuplée toute la terre.
20 Now Noah, a man of the soil, was the first to plant a vineyard.	20 Noé, homme de la terre, commença à planter une vigne.
21 When he drank some of the wine, he became drunk and lay naked inside his tent.	21 Il but du vin, s’enivra et se coucha nu au milieu de sa tente.
22 Ham, the father of Canaan, saw his father's nakedness, and he told his two brothers outside about it.	22 Kam, père de Canaan, regarda son père qui était nu et il le raconta à ses deux frères qui étaient dehors.
23 Shem and Japheth, however, took a robe, and holding it on their backs, they walked backward and covered their father's nakedness; since their faces were turned the other way, they did not see their father's nakedness.	23 Mais Sem et Japhet prirent un manteau à deux, ils le mirent sur leurs épaules, puis ils marchèrent à reculons et couvrirent leur père qui était nu. Leurs visages étaient tournés en arrière pour ne pas regarder la nudité de leur père.
24 When Noah woke up from his drunkenness and learned what his youngest son had done to him,	24 Lorsque Noé sortit de son ivresse, il apprit ce qu’avait fait son fils le plus jeune.
25 he said: "Cursed be Caanan! The lowest of slaves shall he be to his brothers."	25 Il dit: “Maudit soit Canaan! Il sera pour ses frères l’esclave des esclaves.”
26 He also said: "Blessed be the LORD, the God of Shem! Let Canaan be his slave.	26 Puis il dit: “Béni soit Yahvé, le Dieu de Sem! Que Canaan soit son esclave!
27 May God expand Japheth, so that he dwells among the tents of Shem; and let Canaan be his slave."	27 Que Dieu fasse grandir Japhet! Qu’il habite dans les tentes de Sem et que Canaan soit son esclave!”
28 Noah lived three hundred and fifty years after the flood.	28 Noé vécut encore 350 ans après le déluge.
29 The whole lifetime of Noah was nine hundred and fifty years; then he died.	29 La vie de Noé atteignit 950 ans au total, après quoi il mourut.
