Genesis 9

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	JERUSALEM
1 God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them: "Be fertile and multiply and fill the earth.	1 Dieu bénit Noé et ses fils et il leur dit: "Soyez féconds, multipliez, emplissez la terre.
2 Dread fear of you shall come upon all the animals of the earth and all the birds of the air, upon all the creatures that move about on the ground and all the fishes of the sea; into your power they are delivered.	2 Soyez la crainte et l'effroi de tous les animaux de la terre et de tous les oiseaux du ciel, comme detout ce dont la terre fourmille et de tous les poissons de la mer: ils sont livrés entre vos mains
3 Every creature that is alive shall be yours to eat; I give them all to you as I did the green plants.	3 Tout ce qui se meut et possède la vie vous servira de nourriture, je vous donne tout cela au mêmetitre que la verdure des plantes.
4 Only flesh with its lifeblood still in it you shall not eat.	4 Seulement, vous ne mangerez pas la chair avec son âme, c'est-à-dire le sang.
5 For your own lifeblood, too, I will demand an accounting: from every animal I will demand it, and from man in regard to his fellow man I will demand an accounting for human life.	5 Mais je demanderai compte du sang de chacun de vous. J'en demanderai compte à tous les animauxet à l'homme, aux hommes entre eux, je demanderai compte de l'âme de l'homme.
6 If anyone sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed; For in the image of God has man been made.	6 "Qui verse le sang de l'homme, par l'homme aura son sang versé. Car à l'image de Dieu l'homme aété fait.
7 Be fertile, then, and multiply; abound on earth and subdue it."	7 Pour vous, soyez féconds, multipliez, pullulez sur la terre et la dominez."
8 God said to Noah and to his sons with him:	8 Dieu parla ainsi à Noé et à ses fils:
9 "See, I am now establishing my covenant with you and your descendants after you	9 "Voici que j'établis mon alliance avec vous et avec vos descendants après vous,
10 and with every living creature that was with you: all the birds, and the various tame and wild animals that were with you and came out of the ark.	10 et avec tous les êtres animés qui sont avec vous: oiseaux, bestiaux, toutes bêtes sauvages avecvous, bref tout ce qui est sorti de l'arche, tous les animaux de la terre.
11 I will establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all bodily creatures be destroyed by the waters of a flood; there shall not be another flood to devastate the earth."	11 J'établis mon alliance avec vous: tout ce qui est ne sera plus détruit par les eaux du déluge, il n'yaura plus de déluge pour ravager la terre."
12 God added: "This is the sign that I am giving for all ages to come, of the covenant between me and you and every living creature with you:	12 Et Dieu dit: "Voici le signe de l'alliance que j'institue entre moi et vous et tous les êtres vivants quisont avec vous, pour les générations à venir:
13 I set my bow in the clouds to serve as a sign of the covenant between me and the earth.	13 je mets mon arc dans la nuée et il deviendra un signe d'alliance entre moi et la terre.
14 When I bring clouds over the earth, and the bow appears in the clouds,	14 Lorsque j'assemblerai les nuées sur la terre et que l'arc apparaîtra dans la nuée,
15 I will recall the covenant I have made between me and you and all living beings, so that the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all mortal beings.	15 je me souviendrai de l'alliance qu'il y a entre moi et vous et tous les êtres vivants, en somme toutechair, et les eaux ne deviendront plus un déluge pour détruire toute chair.
16 As the bow appears in the clouds, I will see it and recall the everlasting covenant that I have established between God and all living beings--all mortal creatures that are on earth."	16 Quand l'arc sera dans la nuée, je le verrai et me souviendrai de l'alliance éternelle qu'il y a entreDieu et tous les êtres vivants, en somme toute chair qui est sur la terre."
17 God told Noah: "This is the sign of the covenant I have established between me and all mortal creatures that are on earth."	17 Dieu dit à Noé: "Tel est le signe de l'alliance que j'établis entre moi et toute chair qui est sur laterre."
18 The sons of Noah who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham and Japheth. (Ham was the father of Canaan.)	18 Les fils de Noé qui sortirent de l'arche étaient Sem, Cham et Japhet; Cham est le père de Canaan.
19 These three were the sons of Noah, and from them the whole earth was peopled.	19 Ces trois-là étaient les fils de Noé et à partir d'eux se fit le peuplement de toute la terre.
20 Now Noah, a man of the soil, was the first to plant a vineyard.	20 Noé, le cultivateur, commença de planter la vigne.
21 When he drank some of the wine, he became drunk and lay naked inside his tent.	21 Ayant bu du vin, il fut enivré et se dénuda à l'intérieur de sa tente.
22 Ham, the father of Canaan, saw his father's nakedness, and he told his two brothers outside about it.	22 Cham, père de Canaan, vit la nudité de son père et avertit ses deux frères au-dehors.
23 Shem and Japheth, however, took a robe, and holding it on their backs, they walked backward and covered their father's nakedness; since their faces were turned the other way, they did not see their father's nakedness.	23 Mais Sem et Japhet prirent le manteau, le mirent tous deux sur leur épaule et, marchant à reculons,couvrirent la nudité de leur père; leurs visages étaient tournés en arrière et ils ne virent pas la nudité de leur père.
24 When Noah woke up from his drunkenness and learned what his youngest son had done to him,	24 Lorsque Noé se réveilla de son ivresse, il apprit ce que lui avait fait son fils le plus jeune.
25 he said: "Cursed be Caanan! The lowest of slaves shall he be to his brothers."	25 Et il dit: "Maudit soit Canaan! Qu'il soit pour ses frères le dernier des esclaves!"
26 He also said: "Blessed be the LORD, the God of Shem! Let Canaan be his slave.	26 Il dit aussi: "Béni soit Yahvé, le Dieu de Sem, et que Canaan soit son esclave!
27 May God expand Japheth, so that he dwells among the tents of Shem; and let Canaan be his slave."	27 Que Dieu mette Japhet au large, qu'il habite dans les tentes de Sem, et que Canaan soit sonesclave!"
28 Noah lived three hundred and fifty years after the flood.	28 Après le déluge, Noé vécut 350 ans.
29 The whole lifetime of Noah was nine hundred and fifty years; then he died.	29 Toute la durée de la vie de Noé fut de 950 ans, puis ilmourut.
