1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;	1 Non voglio lasciarvi ignorare, o fratelli, che i padri nostri furon tutti sotto la nuvola, e tutti attraversarono il mare,
2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;	2 e tutti furon battezzati per Mosè nella nube e nel mare,
3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat;	3 e tutti mangiarono dello stesso cibo spirituale,
4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.	4 e tutti bevvero la stessa bevanda spirituale, (bevevano alla pietra spirituale che li accompagnava, e quella pietra era Cristo).
5 But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.	5 Ma non un gran numero di essi Dio si compiacque: difatti caddero morti nel deserto.
6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.	6 Or queste cose eran figure per utile nostro, affinchè non desideriamo cose cattive come essi fecero;
7 Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.	7 nè diveniate idolatri, come alcuni di loro, conforme sta scritto: Si adagiò il popolo per mangiare e bere, poi si alzò per divertirsi;
8 Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.	8 nè fornichiamo come alcuni di essi fecero e ne caddero morti in un sol giorno ventitremila;
9 Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.	9 nè tentiamo Cristo, come lo tentarono alcuni di loro, che furono uccisi dai serpenti;
10 Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.	10 nè mormoriate, come alcuni di essi mormorarono, e furono distrutti dallo sterminatore.
11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.	11 Or tutte queste cose accaddero loro in figura, e sono state scritte a nostro avvertimento, per noi che siamo venuti alla fine dei secoli.
12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.	12 Quindi chi crede di stare in piedi, guardi di non cadere.
13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.	13 Non vi hanno assaliti che tentazioni umane: or Dio è fedele e non permetterà che voi siate tentati oltre le vostro forze; ma con la tentazione darà anche il modo di trarne profitto, donandovi la forza di poterla sopportare.
14 Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.	14 Perciò, miei diletti, fuggite l'idolatria.
15 I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say.	15 Vi parlo come a persone intelligenti, giudicate voi stessi di quel che dico.
16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?	16 Il calice della benedizione che noi benediciamo, non è forse la comunione del sangue di Cristo? E il pane che noi spezziamo, non è egli la comunione del corpo del Signore?
17 For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread.	17 Siccome vi è un unico pane, noi, pur essendo molti, formiamo un sol corpo, comunicandoci col medesimo pane.
18 Behold Israel after the flesh: are not they which eat of the sacrifices partakers of the alter?	18 Guardate l'Israele secondo la carne: non è egli vero che partecipano all'altare quelli che mangiano le vittime?
19 What say I then? that the idol is any thing, or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is any thing?	19 Che voglio dunque dire? Che sia qualche cosa ciò che è immolato agli idoli? O che un idolo sia qualche cosa?
20 But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils.	20 Dico invece che le cose immolate dai Gentili, ai demoni sono immolate e non a Dio. Or io non voglio che voi siate in comunione coi demoni. Non potete bere il calice del Signore e il calice dei demoni.
21 Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils.	21 Non potete partecipare alla mensa del Signore e alla mensa dei demoni.
22 Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?	22 Vogliam forse provocare la gelosia del Signore? Siam forse più forti di lui? Si possono mangiare le carni immolate se non c'è scandalo
23 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.	23 Tutto mi è lecito; ma non tutto è utile. Tutto mi è lecito; ma non tutto è di edificazione.
24 Let no man seek his own, but every man another's wealth.	24 Nessuno cerchi il proprio vantaggio, ma quel degli altri.
25 Whatsoever is sold in the shambles, that eat, asking no question for conscience sake:	25 Mangiate di tutto quello che si vende al macello, senza cercar d'altro, per riguardo della coscienza;
26 For the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof.	26 perchè «del Signore è la terra con tutto quello che essa contiene ».
27 If any of them that believe not bid you to a feast, and ye be disposed to go; whatsoever is set before you, eat, asking no question for conscience sake.	27 Se uno degli infedeli v'invita e vi piace d'andare, mangiate di tutto quello che vi è posto davanti, senz'altro cercare per riguardo alla coscienza.
28 But if any man say unto you, This is offered in sacrifice unto idols, eat not for his sake that shewed it, and for conscience sake: for the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof:	28 Ma se uno vi dirà: « Questo è stato immolato agli idoli », non ne mangiate, per riguardo a colui che vi ha avvertito e per riguardo alla coscienza;
29 Conscience, I say, not thine own, but of the other: for why is my liberty judged of another man's conscience?	29 alla coscienza dico, non tua, ma di quell'altro. E perchè dunque la mia libertà deve essere giudicata dalla coscienza altrui?
30 For if I by grace be a partaker, why am I evil spoken of for that for which I give thanks?	30 E se io partecipo (alla mensa) rendendo grazie, perchè devo essere biasimato per cose di cui rendo grazie?
31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.	31 Or dunque sia che mangiate, sia che beviate, o facciate qualunque altra cosa, fate tutto a gloria di Dio.
32 Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God:	32 Non siate di scandalo nè ai Giudei, nè ai Gentili, nè alla Chiesa di Dio.
33 Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.	33 Come anch'io mi sforzo di piacere a tutti in ogni cosa, non cercando il mio vantaggio, ma quello di molti, affinchè siano salvi.
