1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;	1 Non voglio infatti che ignoriate, o fratelli, che i nostri padri sono stati tutti sotto la nube, tutti hanno attraversato il mare,
2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;	2 tutti sono stati battezzati in Mosè nella nube e nel mare,
3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat;	3 tutti hanno mangiato lo stesso cibo spirituale,
4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.	4 tutti hanno bevuto la stessa bevanda spirituale (bevevano infatti da una roccia spirituale che li accompagnava: quella roccia era Cristo):
5 But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.	5 ma Dio non si compiacque della maggior parte di loro, e furono atterrati nel deserto.
6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.	6 Queste cose accaddero come esempi per noi, perché non desiderassimo cose cattive, come essi le desiderarono.
7 Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.	7 Non divenite idolatri come alcuni di loro, come sta scritto: Il popolo si sedette a mangiare e a bere, e poi si alzò a divertirsi.
8 Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.	8 Né abbandoniamoci alla fornicazione, come si abbandonarono alcuni di essi, e ne caddero in un solo giorno ventitremila.
9 Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.	9 Né mettiamo alla prova il Signore, come alcuni di essi lo misero, e caddero vittime dei serpenti.
10 Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.	10 Né mormorate, come mormorarono alcuni di essi, e caddero vittime dello sterminatore.
11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.	11 Ora tutte queste cose accaddero a loro in figura e sono state scritte per ammonimento nostro, di noi per i quali è giunta la fine dei tempi.
12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.	12 Quindi, chi crede di star dritto, guardi di non cadere.
13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.	13 Nessuna tentazione vi ha mai colti se non umana, e Dio è fedele e non permetterà che siate tentati oltre le forze, ma con la tentazione darà anche il mezzo di sopportarla.
14 Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.	14 Perciò, o miei cari, fuggite l'idolatria.
15 I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say.	15 Parlo come a persone intelligenti; giudicate voi stessi quello che dico:
16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?	16 il calice della benedizione che noi benediciamo, non è comunione con il sangue di Cristo? Il pane che spezziamo, non è comunione con il corpo di Cristo?
17 For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread.	17 Essendo uno solo il pane, noi siamo un corpo solo sebbene in molti, poiché partecipiamo tutti dello stesso pane.
18 Behold Israel after the flesh: are not they which eat of the sacrifices partakers of the alter?	18 Guardate l'Israele secondo la carne: quelli che mangiano del sacrificio non sono forse in comunione con l'altare?
19 What say I then? that the idol is any thing, or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is any thing?	19 Che dico dunque? Che la carne immolata agli idoli è qualche cosa? O che un idolo è qualche cosa?
20 But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils.	20 No, anzi, quello che sacrificano, ai demòni lo sacrificano e non a Dio. Ora io non voglio che voi entriate in comunione con i demòni;
21 Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils.	21 non potete bere il calice del Signore e il calice dei demòni; non potete partecipare alla tavola del Signore e alla tavola dei demòni.
22 Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?	22 O vogliamo provocare la gelosia del Signore? Siamo forse più forti di lui?
23 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.	23 "Tutto è lecito", ma non tutto giova! "Tutto è lecito", ma non tutto edifica!
24 Let no man seek his own, but every man another's wealth.	24 Non si cerchi l'utile proprio, ma quello altrui.
25 Whatsoever is sold in the shambles, that eat, asking no question for conscience sake:	25 Tutto ciò che è in vendita sul mercato, mangiatelo senza indagare per motivo di coscienza,
26 For the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof.	26 perché del Signore è la terra e tutto ciò che contiene.
27 If any of them that believe not bid you to a feast, and ye be disposed to go; whatsoever is set before you, eat, asking no question for conscience sake.	27 Se qualche pagano vi invita e vi piace andare, mangiate tutto quello che vi si presenta, senza indagare per motivi di coscienza.
28 But if any man say unto you, This is offered in sacrifice unto idols, eat not for his sake that shewed it, and for conscience sake: for the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof:	28 Ma se qualcuno vi dicesse: "E' carne immolata agli idoli", astenetevi dal mangiare, per riguardo a colui che vi ha avvertito e della coscienza;
29 Conscience, I say, not thine own, but of the other: for why is my liberty judged of another man's conscience?	29 della coscienza, dico, non tua, ma dell'altro. Per qual motivo infatti la mia libertà dovrebbe venir giudicata da un'altra coscienza?
30 For if I by grace be a partaker, why am I evil spoken of for that for which I give thanks?	30 Se io me ne cibo con rendimento di grazie, perché dovrei essere biasimato di quello per cui rendo grazie?
31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.	31 Sia dunque che mangiate, sia che beviate o qualsiasi cosa facciate, fate tutto per la gloria di Dio.
32 Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God:	32 Non date motivo di inciampo né ai Giudei né ai Greci né alla Chiesa di Dio;
33 Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.	33 così come io cerco di piacere a tutti in tutto, senza cercare l'utile mio ma quello dei molti, perché giungano alla salvezza.
