1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;	1 Nem akarom, hogy figyelmen kívül hagyjátok, testvérek, hogy atyáink mindnyájan a felhő alatt voltak, és mindnyájan átvonultak a tengeren,
2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;	2 és mindnyájan megkeresztelkedtek Mózes által a felhőben és a tengerben.
3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat;	3 Mindnyájan ugyanazt a lelki eledelt ették,
4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.	4 és mindnyájan ugyanazt a lelki italt itták, ittak ugyanis az őket követő lelki sziklából: a szikla pedig Krisztus volt.
5 But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.	5 De legtöbbjükben nem telt kedve Istennek, hiszen elpusztultak a pusztában .
6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.	6 Ez pedig számunkra előképként történt, hogy mi ne kívánjuk meg a rosszat, mint ahogy ők megkívánták.
7 Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.	7 Se bálványimádók ne legyetek, mint egyesek azok közül, amint írva van: »Leült a nép enni és inni, és fölkeltek játszani« .
8 Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.	8 És ne paráználkodjunk, ahogy egyesek paráználkodtak azok közül, és egy nap huszonháromezren pusztultak el .
9 Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.	9 Krisztust se kísértsük, mint egyesek azok közül kísértették, és elvesztek a kígyók által .
10 Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.	10 Zúgolódni se zúgolódjatok, mint egyesek zúgolódtak azok közül, és elvesztek a pusztító által .
11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.	11 Mindezek előképként történtek velük, és azért írták le, hogy okuljunk belőlük mi, akikhez az idők vége elközelgett.
12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.	12 Aki tehát azt hiszi, hogy áll, vigyázzon, hogy el ne essék.
13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.	13 Emberi erőt meghaladó kísértés még nem ért titeket. Isten pedig hűséges, és nem engedi meg, hogy erőtökön felül szenvedjetek kísértést, hanem a kísértéssel együtt a szabadulást is megadja, hogy elviselhessétek.
14 Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.	14 Ezért, szeretteim, kerüljétek a bálványimádást.
15 I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say.	15 Úgy szólok hozzátok, mint értelmes emberekhez; ítéljétek meg ti magatok, amit mondok:
16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?	16 Az áldás kelyhe, amelyet megáldunk, nem Krisztus vérében való részesedés? És a kenyér, amelyet megtörünk, nem Krisztus testében való részesedés?
17 For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread.	17 Mert egy a kenyér, s egy test vagyunk sokan, hiszen mindnyájan egy kenyérből részesülünk.
18 Behold Israel after the flesh: are not they which eat of the sacrifices partakers of the alter?	18 Tekintsétek a test szerint való Izraelt: akik az áldozatokat eszik, ugye közösségben vannak az oltárral?
19 What say I then? that the idol is any thing, or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is any thing?	19 Mit akarok ezzel mondani? Talán azt, hogy a bálványoknak áldozott hús vagy a bálvány valóban valami?
20 But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils.	20 Dehogy! De amit a nemzetek áldoznak, azt az ördögöknek áldozzák és nem Istennek . Nem akarom, hogy ördögökkel legyetek közösségben.
21 Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils.	21 Nem ihatjátok az Úr kelyhét és az ördögök kelyhét. Nem lehettek részesei az Úr asztalának és az ördögök asztalának.
22 Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?	22 Ingereljük talán féltékenységre az Urat? Talán erősebbek vagyunk nála?
23 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.	23 »Minden szabad«, de nem minden használ. »Minden szabad«, de nem minden szolgál épülésre.
24 Let no man seek his own, but every man another's wealth.	24 Senki se keresse a maga javát, hanem a másikét.
25 Whatsoever is sold in the shambles, that eat, asking no question for conscience sake:	25 Mindent, ami a húspiacon eladásra kerül, egyetek meg, anélkül, hogy lelkiismereti okból bármit kérdeznétek.
26 For the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof.	26 Mert az Úré a föld és annak teljessége.
27 If any of them that believe not bid you to a feast, and ye be disposed to go; whatsoever is set before you, eat, asking no question for conscience sake.	27 Ha valaki a hitetlenek közül meghív titeket és el akartok menni, mindent egyetek meg, amit elétek tesznek, anélkül, hogy lelkiismereti okból bármit kérdeznétek.
28 But if any man say unto you, This is offered in sacrifice unto idols, eat not for his sake that shewed it, and for conscience sake: for the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof:	28 De ha valaki azt mondja nektek: »Ez a bálványok áldozatából való«, ne egyétek meg amiatt, aki szóvá tette, és a lelkiismeret miatt;
29 Conscience, I say, not thine own, but of the other: for why is my liberty judged of another man's conscience?	29 nem a te lelkiismeretedet értem ezen, hanem a másikét. Miért ítélje meg az én szabadságomat másnak a lelkiismerete?
30 For if I by grace be a partaker, why am I evil spoken of for that for which I give thanks?	30 Ha én hálaadással étkezem, miért káromoljon engem valaki azért, amiért hálát adok?
31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.	31 Tehát akár esztek, akár isztok, és bármi mást tesztek, mindent Isten dicsőségére tegyetek.
32 Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God:	32 Ne adjatok okot a botránkozásra se zsidóknak, se görögöknek, se Isten egyházának,
33 Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.	33 mint ahogy én is mindenben mindenkinek kedvében járok, nem azt keresve, ami nekem hasznos, hanem ami a többieknek, hogy üdvözüljenek.
