1 And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho.	1 - Gesù, entrato in Gerico, attraversava la città.
2 And, behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich.	2 Ed ecco che un uomo, per nome Zaccheo, che era un capo dei pubblicani e ricco,
3 And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature.	3 cercava di vedere chi fosse Gesù, ma non ci riusciva, perchè era piccolo di statura.
4 And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way.	4 Allora corse avanti e salì sopra un sicomoro per vederlo, perchè egli doveva passare di là.
5 And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.	5 Gesù, arrivato in quel luogo, alzò gli occhi, lo vide e gli disse: «Zaccheo, scendi presto, perchè oggi devo fermarmi in casa tua».
6 And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully.	6 Egli si affrettò a scendere e lo accolse con gran gioia.
7 And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner.	7 E tutti, visto ciò, cominciarono a mormorare, dicendo: «È andato in casa di un peccatore!».
8 And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.	8 Zaccheo si presentò al Signore e gli disse: «Ecco, o Signore, la metà dei miei beni la dono ai poveri; e se ho frodato qualcuno, gli rendo il quadruplo».
9 And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham.	9 Gesù gli replicò: «Per questa casa oggi è venuta la salvezza, perchè egli pure è figliuolo di Abramo.
10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.	10 Il Figliuol dell'uomo infatti è venuto a cercare ed a salvare ciò che era perduto».
11 And as they heard these things, he added and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear.	11 Ascoltando quei tali discorsi, Gesù aggiunse una parabola, perchè era vicino a Gerusalemme ed essi credevano che la manifestazione del regno di Dio fosse imminente.
12 He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.	12 Disse dunque: «Un nobile uomo andò in un paese lontano per ricevere [l'investitura] del regno e poi ritornare.
13 And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.	13 Chiamati a sè i suoi dieci servi, diede loro dieci mine e disse: - Trafficatele fino al mio ritorno. -
14 But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us.	14 I suoi concittadini però l'odiavano e gli mandarono dietro un'ambasciata, dicendo: - Non vogliamo che quest'uomo regni su noi. -
15 And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading.	15 Quando fu di ritorno, dopo essere stato investito del regno, fece chiamare i servi, ai quali aveva dato il denaro, per sapere quanto ciascuno avesse guadagnato.
16 Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds.	16 Venne il primo a dirgli: - Signore, la tua mina ne ha fruttato altre dieci. -
17 And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities.	17 Ed egli disse a lui: - Bravo e buon servitore, perchè sei stato fedele nel poco, avrai potere su dieci città. -
18 And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds.	18 Poi venne il secondo e disse: - Signore, la tua mina ne ha fruttato altre cinque. -
19 And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five cities.	19 E rispose anche a questo: - Tu pure avrai potere su cinque città. -
20 And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin:	20 Poi venne un terzo e disse: - Signore, ecco la tua mina, che ho conservata rinvolta in un fazzoletto,
21 For I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that thou layedst not down, and reapest that thou didst not sow.	21 perchè ho avuto paura di te, che sei un uomo severo e prendi quel che non hai dato e mieti quel che non hai seminato. -
22 And he saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did not sow:	22 E il padrone a lui: - Io ti giudico dalle tue stesse parole, o servo cattivo! Tu sapevi che sono un uomo severo, che prendo quel che non ho dato e mieto quel che non ho seminato;
23 Wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury?	23 perchè dunque non hai depositato il mio denaro alla banca? Io, al mio ritorno, l'avrei ritirato coi frutti. -
24 And he said unto them that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give it to him that hath ten pounds.	24 E disse agli astanti: - Toglietegli la mina e datela a chi ne ha dieci. -
25 (And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds.)	25 E avendogli essi fatto osservare: - Signore, ne ha già dieci! - Egli replicò:
26 For I say unto you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him.	26 - Io vi dico che a chi ha, sarà dato, e sarà nell'abbondanza e a chi non ha, sarà tolto anche quello che ha.
27 But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.	27 In quanto poi a' miei nemici, che non mi volevano per loro re, conduceteli qua e uccideteli alla mia presenza -».
28 And when he had thus spoken, he went before, ascending up to Jerusalem.	28 Dopo questo discorso, Gesù camminava innanzi agli altri, diretto a Gerusalemme.
29 And it came to pass, when he was come nigh to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount called the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples,	29 Quando fu vicino a Betfage e a Betania, presso il monte, detto degli Ulivi, mandò due de' suoi discepoli,
30 Saying, Go ye into the village over against you; in the which at your entering ye shall find a colt tied, whereon yet never man sat: loose him, and bring him hither.	30 dicendo loro: «Andate nel villaggio dirimpetto, entrandovi, troverete legato un asinello, sul quale nessuno è mai montato; scioglietelo e menatemelo qua.
31 And if any man ask you, Why do ye loose him? thus shall ye say unto him, Because the Lord hath need of him.	31 Che se qualcuno vi domandasse perchè lo sciogliete, rispondete: - Perchè il Signore ne ha bisogno -».
32 And they that were sent went their way, and found even as he had said unto them.	32 Gl'inviati andarono e trovarono l'asinello come egli aveva loro predetto.
33 And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said unto them, Why loose ye the colt?	33 E mentre scioglievano l'asinello, i padroni chiesero loro: «Perchè sciogliete l'asinello?».
34 And they said, The Lord hath need of him.	34 Essi risposero: «Perchè il Signore ne ha bisogno».
35 And they brought him to Jesus: and they cast their garments upon the colt, and they set Jesus thereon.	35 E lo menarono a Gesù; e gettati i loro mantelli sull'asinello, vi fecero montare Gesù.
36 And as he went, they spread their clothes in the way.	36 Mentre egli andava innanzi così, la gente stendeva i mantelli sulla via.
37 And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen;	37 Quando poi fu vicino alla discesa del monte degli Ulivi, tutta la folla dei discepoli cominciò a lodare con gioia il Signore a voce alta per tutti i prodigi che avevano visti,
38 Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.	38 e dicevano: «Benedetto il re, che viene nel nome del Signore! Pace in cielo e gloria nei luoghi altissimi».
39 And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples.	39 Alcuni Farisei di tra la folla gli dissero: «Maestro, sgrida i tuoi discepoli».
40 And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.	40 Ma egli rispose loro: «Io vi dico, se questi tacessero, griderebbero le pietre».
41 And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it,	41 Quando fu vicino alla città, la guardò e pianse su di lei, dicendo:
42 Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.	42 «O se conoscessi anche tu e proprio in questo giorno, quel che giova alla tua pace! Invece ora sono cose rimaste nascoste a' tuoi occhi.
43 For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side,	43 Poichè verranno per te giorni, nei quali i tuoi nemici ti faranno attorno delle trincee, ti circonderanno e ti stringeranno d'assedio da ogni parte,
44 And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.	44 e distruggeranno te e i tuoi figliuoli che sono in te, e non lasceranno in te pietra su pietra, perchè non hai riconosciuto il momento nel quale sei stata visitata».
45 And he went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold therein, and them that bought;	45 Entrato nel tempio, cominciò a scacciare coloro che in esso vendevano e comperavano,
46 Saying unto them, It is written, My house is the house of prayer: but ye have made it a den of thieves.	46 dicendo loro: «Sta scritto: La mia casa è casa di orazione ; ma voi ne avete fatto una spelonca di ladri».
47 And he taught daily in the temple. But the chief priests and the scribes and the chief of the people sought to destroy him,	47 Ogni giorno insegnava nel tempio. Ma i principi dei Sacerdoti e gli Scribi e i primi tra il popolo cercavano di farlo morire;
48 And could not find what they might do: for all the people were very attentive to hear him.	48 ma non sapevano come fare, perchè tutto il popolo ascoltandolo, pendeva dalle sue labbra.
