1 And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho.	1 Jésus était entré dans Jéricho et traversait la ville.
2 And, behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich.	2 Or il y avait là un homme du nom de Zachée, un homme fort riche qui était chef des collecteurs de l’impôt.
3 And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature.	3 Il voulait absolument voir qui était Jésus, mais il ne le pouvait pas car il était de petite taille et il y avait beaucoup de monde.
4 And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way.	4 Il courut donc en avant, là où il devait passer, et il monta sur un sycomore afin de le voir.
5 And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.	5 Quand Jésus arriva à cet endroit, il leva les yeux et lui dit: "Zachée, dépêche-toi de descendre, car c’est chez toi que je dois m’arrêter aujourd’hui.”
6 And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully.	6 Zachée aussitôt s’empressa de descendre, et c’est avec grande joie qu’il le reçut.
7 And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner.	7 Voyant cela, tous murmuraient et l’on disait: "Il s’est arrêté chez un pécheur de bonne condition!”
8 And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.	8 Mais Zachée faisait le pas et disait au Seigneur: "Je vais donner aux pauvres la moitié de mes biens, Seigneur, et si j’ai extorqué quelque chose à quelqu’un, je vais rendre quatre fois plus.”
9 And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham.	9 Jésus dit alors, pensant à lui: "Aujourd’hui le salut est entré dans cette maison; n’est-il pas lui aussi fils d’Abraham?
10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.	10 Le Fils de l’Homme est venu chercher et sauver ce qui était perdu.”
11 And as they heard these things, he added and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear.	11 Comme Jésus approchait de Jérusalem, il dit cette autre parabole car ses auditeurs étaient convaincus que le Royaume de Dieu allait se manifester maintenant.
12 He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.	12 Il leur dit: "Un homme de grande famille partit dans un pays lointain pour y recevoir le pouvoir royal et ensuite revenir.
13 And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.	13 Il appela dix de ses serviteurs et leur confia dix mines, dix sacs d’argent, en leur disant: Faites-les fructifier jusqu’à mon retour.”
14 But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us.	14 “Comme ses concitoyens le détestaient, ils envoyèrent une ambassade derrière lui avec ce message: ‘Nous ne voulons pas de celui-là comme roi.’
15 And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading.	15 Il revint pourtant, ayant reçu le pouvoir royal, et il fit appeler les serviteurs auxquels il avait confié l’argent pour voir comment chacun d’eux l’avait fait valoir.
16 Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds.	16 “Le premier arrive et dit: ‘Seigneur, ta mine a rapporté dix autres mines!’
17 And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities.	17 Le roi lui répond: ‘Très bien, tu es un bon serviteur et tu t’es montré digne de confiance dans cette petite affaire! À cause de cela tu auras dix villes sous ta dépendance.’
18 And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds.	18 Le deuxième vient à son tour et dit: ‘Ta mine, seigneur, en a produit cinq autres.’
19 And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five cities.	19 Le roi lui dit: ‘Toi, tu auras cinq villes sous ta dépendance.’
20 And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin:	20 “Et puis arrive un autre qui dit: ‘Seigneur, voici ta mine! Je l’avais mise de côté dans un linge.
21 For I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that thou layedst not down, and reapest that thou didst not sow.	21 Car j’avais peur de toi, je sais que tu es un homme exigeant, tu prends là où tu n’as rien engagé, et tu moissonnes là où tu n’as pas semé.’
22 And he saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did not sow:	22 “Le roi lui dit: ‘Mauvais serviteur, je te juge sur tes propres paroles. Tu me connaissais comme un homme exigeant qui prend là où il n’a rien engagé et moissonne là où il n’a pas semé.
23 Wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury?	23 Pourquoi n’as-tu pas déposé mon argent à la banque? À mon retour je l’aurais retiré avec les intérêts.’
24 And he said unto them that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give it to him that hath ten pounds.	24 “Puis, se tournant vers ceux qui sont là, il leur dit: ‘Prenez-lui la mine, et donnez-la à celui qui en a dix.’
25 (And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds.)	25 Ils répondent: ‘Seigneur, il a déjà dix mines!’
26 For I say unto you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him.	26 - ‘Mais oui! on donnera à celui qui a, mais à celui qui n’a pas, même ce qu’il a lui sera enlevé.
27 But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.	27 Maintenant, amenez ici mes ennemis, ceux qui ne voulaient pas que je règne sur eux, et égorgez-les devant moi.’”
28 And when he had thus spoken, he went before, ascending up to Jerusalem.	28 Ayant dit cela, Jésus prit la tête du groupe et commença la montée vers Jérusalem.
29 And it came to pass, when he was come nigh to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount called the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples,	29 Quand il approcha de Bethphagé et de Béthanie, au mont dit des Oliviers,
30 Saying, Go ye into the village over against you; in the which at your entering ye shall find a colt tied, whereon yet never man sat: loose him, and bring him hither.	30 il envoya deux des disciples en leur disant: "Allez jusqu’au village que vous voyez en face; à l’entrée vous trouverez un ânon attaché que personne n’a jamais monté. Détachez-le et amenez-le.
31 And if any man ask you, Why do ye loose him? thus shall ye say unto him, Because the Lord hath need of him.	31 Si quelqu’un vous demande pourquoi vous le détachez, vous répondrez simplement: Le Seigneur en a besoin.”
32 And they that were sent went their way, and found even as he had said unto them.	32 Les envoyés partirent et trouvèrent tout comme il leur avait dit.
33 And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said unto them, Why loose ye the colt?	33 Au moment où ils détachaient l’ânon, les maîtres leur dirent: "Pourquoi détachez-vous l’ânon?”
34 And they said, The Lord hath need of him.	34 Ils répondirent: "Le Seigneur en a besoin.”
35 And they brought him to Jesus: and they cast their garments upon the colt, and they set Jesus thereon.	35 Ils amenèrent à Jésus l’ânon, jetèrent sur lui leurs manteaux et firent monter Jésus.
36 And as he went, they spread their clothes in the way.	36 À mesure qu’il avançait, les gens étendaient leurs manteaux sur le chemin.
37 And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen;	37 Comme il approchait déjà de la descente du Mont des Oliviers, toute la foule des disciples manifesta sa joie: ils se mirent à louer Dieu à pleine voix pour tous les miracles qu’ils avaient vus.
38 Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.	38 Ils disaient: “Béni soit ce roi qui vient au nom du Seigneur! Paix dans le ciel et gloire au plus haut des cieux!”
39 And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples.	39 Dans la foule quelques Pharisiens lui dirent: "Reprends tes disciples, Maître!”
40 And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.	40 Il leur répondit: "Je vous le dis: s’ils se taisent, les pierres crieront.”
41 And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it,	41 Lorsque déjà on approchait il aperçut la ville
42 Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.	42 et prononça une lamentation sur elle. Il dit: "Si toi aussi en ce jour tu pouvais reconnaître les chemins de la paix! Mais désormais ils seront cachés à tes yeux.
43 For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side,	43 “Des jours viendront auxquels tu n’échapperas pas, où tes ennemis t’entoureront de tranchées, t’enfermeront, te presseront de toutes parts
44 And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.	44 et t’écraseront avec tes enfants au milieu de toi. Il ne restera pas de toi pierre sur pierre, parce que tu n’as pas reconnu le temps où tu étais visitée.”
45 And he went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold therein, and them that bought;	45 Alors Jésus entra dans le Temple. Il commença à jeter dehors les vendeurs
46 Saying unto them, It is written, My house is the house of prayer: but ye have made it a den of thieves.	46 en leur disant: "Il est écrit: Ma maison sera une maison de prière. Mais vous, vous en avez fait une caverne de brigands!”
47 And he taught daily in the temple. But the chief priests and the scribes and the chief of the people sought to destroy him,	47 Chaque jour il était là dans le Temple et il enseignait. Les grands prêtres et les maîtres de la Loi voulaient sa perte, et de même les chefs du peuple,
48 And could not find what they might do: for all the people were very attentive to hear him.	48 mais ils ne savaient que faire car tout le peuple l’écoutait, suspendu à ses lèvres.
