Proverbs 12

1 Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish.	1 Celui qui aime qu’on le reprenne aime le savoir; qui déteste la réprimande est un sot.
2 A good man obtaineth favour of the LORD: but a man of wicked devices will he condemn.	2 Yahvé favorise celui qui est bon, mais il condamne l’homme retors.
3 A man shall not be established by wickedness: but the root of the righteous shall not be moved.	3 Qui fait le mal n’est jamais en sûreté; le juste, lui, est indéracinable.
4 A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.	4 Une femme vaillante est la fierté de son mari, celle qui ne sait pas rougir lui est un cancer dans les os.
5 The thoughts of the righteous are right: but the counsels of the wicked are deceit.	5 Les justes cherchent à bien faire, les projets des méchants ne sont que tromperie.
6 The words of the wicked are to lie in wait for blood: but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.	6 Les paroles des méchants sont autant de pièges, mais les hommes droits ont la réponse pour y échapper.
7 The wicked are overthrown, and are not: but the house of the righteous shall stand.	7 Les méchants chancellent, ils ne sont plus, mais la maison des justes reste debout.
8 A man shall be commended according to his wisdom: but he that is of a perverse heart shall be despised.	8 Chacun est apprécié à la mesure de son bon sens, qui a l’esprit tortueux est voué au mépris.
9 He that is despised, and hath a servant, is better than he that honoureth himself, and lacketh bread.	9 Mieux vaut être sans titres mais avoir un serviteur, que de jouer au grand quand on manque de pain.
10 A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.	10 Le juste connaît les besoins de son bétail; le méchant, par contre, n’a pas d’entrailles.
11 He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that followeth vain persons is void of understanding.	11 Qui cultive son champ aura du pain à suffisance, mais c’est manquer de bon sens que de courir après le vent.
12 The wicked desireth the net of evil men: but the root of the righteous yieldeth fruit.	12 Les ambitions des méchants préparent leur malheur, le juste par contre est un arbre qui donne.
13 The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips: but the just shall come out of trouble.	13 Le méchant se prend dans ses propres pièges, le juste se tire de toute détresse.
14 A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth: and the recompence of a man's hands shall be rendered unto him.	14 Qui sait parler ne manquera pas de pain, qui travaille de ses mains en sera récompensé.
15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.	15 Le sot est sûr de ses choix, mais le sage écoute les conseils.
16 A fool's wrath is presently known: but a prudent man covereth shame.	16 Le sot montre aussitôt son mécontentement, l’homme avisé ne relève pas l’affront.
17 He that speaketh truth sheweth forth righteousness: but a false witness deceit.	17 L’homme honnête fera voir la vérité, le faux témoin embrouillera tout.
18 There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.	18 Des paroles inconsidérées blessent comme une épée, la parole des sages est un remède.
19 The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment.	19 Une parole vraie vaudra toujours, ce qui est falsifié n’aura qu’un temps.
20 Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counsellers of peace is joy.	20 La tromperie se loge dans le cœur des intrigants, la joie, dans celui du bon conseiller.
21 There shall no evil happen to the just: but the wicked shall be filled with mischief.	21 Le malheur ne tombera pas sur le juste, tandis que les méchants auront leur compte de maux.
22 Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight.	22 Yahvé déteste les lèvres menteuses, mais il favorise ceux qui font la vérité.
23 A prudent man concealeth knowledge: but the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness.	23 L’homme intelligent n’étale pas ce qu’il sait, les sots ne pensent qu’à manifester leurs sottises.
24 The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute.	24 La main qui travaille prendra les rênes, et les corvées seront pour le paresseux.
25 Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad.	25 Une peine intime affaiblit les énergies, une bonne nouvelle rend la joie.
26 The righteous is more excellent than his neighbour: but the way of the wicked seduceth them.	26 Le juste saura guider son prochain, tandis que les méchants s’égareront sur leur chemin.
27 The slothful man roasteth not that which he took in hunting: but the substance of a diligent man is precious.	27 Pas de gibier à rôtir pour le nonchalant; être actif, c’est le secret de la richesse.
28 In the way of righteousness is life; and in the pathway thereof there is no death.	28 La vie se trouve sur le droit chemin, le chemin tortueux conduit à la mort.
