KING JAMES BIBLENEW AMERICAN BIBLE
If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, now may Israel say;1 A song of ascents. Of David. I Had not the LORD been with us, let Israel say,
If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, when men rose up against us:2 Had not the LORD been with us, when people rose against us,
Then they had swallowed us up quick, when their wrath was kindled against us:3 They would have swallowed us alive, for their fury blazed against us.
Then the waters had overwhelmed us, the stream had gone over our soul:4 The waters would have engulfed us, the torrent overwhelmed us;
Then the proud waters had gone over our soul.5 seething waters would have drowned us.
Blessed be the LORD, who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth.6 Blessed be the LORD, who did not leave us to be torn by their fangs.
Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped.7 We escaped with our lives like a bird from the fowler's snare; the snare was broken and we escaped.
Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth.8 Our help is the name of the LORD, the maker of heaven and earth.
