KING JAMES BIBLEDOUAI-RHEIMS
If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, now may Israel say;1 To thee have I lifted up my eyes, who dwellest in heaven.
If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, when men rose up against us:2 Behold as the eyes of the servants are on the hands of their masters, As the eyes of the handmaid are on the hands of her mistress: so are our eyes unto the Lord our God, until he have mercy on us.
Then they had swallowed us up quick, when their wrath was kindled against us:3 Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us: for we are greatly filled with contempt.
Then the waters had overwhelmed us, the stream had gone over our soul:4 For our soul is greatly filled: we are a reproach to the rich, and contempt to the proud.
Then the proud waters had gone over our soul.
Blessed be the LORD, who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth.
Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped.
Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth.
