Job 40

1 Moreover the LORD answered Job, and said,	1 Il Signore riprese e disse a Giobbe:
2 Shall he that contendeth with the Almighty instruct him? he that reproveth God, let him answer it.	2 Il censore vorrà ancora contendere con l'Onnipotente? L'accusatore di Dio risponda!
3 Then Job answered the LORD, and said,	3 Giobbe rivolto al Signore disse:
4 Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth.	4 Ecco, sono ben meschino: che ti posso rispondere? Mi metto la mano sulla bocca.
5 Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: yea, twice; but I will proceed no further.	5 Ho parlato una volta, ma non replicherò. ho parlato due volte, ma non continuerò.
6 Then answered the LORD unto Job out of the whirlwind, and said,	6 Allora il Signore rispose a Giobbe di mezzo al turbine e disse:
7 Gird up thy loins now like a man: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me.	7 Cingiti i fianchi come un prode: io t'interrogherò e tu mi istruirai.
8 Wilt thou also disannul my judgment? wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be righteous?	8 Oseresti proprio cancellare il mio giudizio e farmi torto per avere tu ragione?
9 Hast thou an arm like God? or canst thou thunder with a voice like him?	9 Hai tu un braccio come quello di Dio e puoi tuonare con voce pari alla sua?
10 Deck thyself now with majesty and excellency; and array thyself with glory and beauty.	10 Ornati pure di maestà e di sublimità, rivestiti di splendore e di gloria;
11 Cast abroad the rage of thy wrath: and behold every one that is proud, and abase him.	11 diffondi i furori della tua collera, mira ogni superbo e abbattilo,
12 Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place.	12 mira ogni superbo e umilialo, schiaccia i malvagi ovunque si trovino;
13 Hide them in the dust together; and bind their faces in secret.	13 nascondili nella polvere tutti insieme, rinchiudili nella polvere tutti insieme,
14 Then will I also confess unto thee that thine own right hand can save thee.	14 anch'io ti loderò, perché hai trionfato con la destra.
15 Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox.	15 Ecco, l'ippopotamo, che io ho creato al pari di te, mangia l'erba come il bue.
16 Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly.	16 Guarda, la sua forza è nei fianchi e il suo vigore nel ventre.
17 He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together.	17 Rizza la coda come un cedro, i nervi delle sue cosce s'intrecciano saldi,
18 His bones are as strong pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron.	18 le sue vertebre, tubi di bronzo, le sue ossa come spranghe di ferro.
19 He is the chief of the ways of God: he that made him can make his sword to approach unto him.	19 Esso è la prima delle opere di Dio; il suo creatore lo ha fornito di difesa.
20 Surely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play.	20 I monti gli offrono i loro prodotti e là tutte le bestie della campagna si trastullano.
21 He lieth under the shady trees, in the covert of the reed, and fens.	21 Sotto le piante di loto si sdraia, nel folto del canneto della palude.
22 The shady trees cover him with their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about.	22 Lo ricoprono d'ombra i loti selvatici, lo circondano i salici del torrente.
23 Behold, he drinketh up a river, and hasteth not: he trusteth that he can draw up Jordan into his mouth.	23 Ecco, si gonfi pure il fiume: egli non trema, è calmo, anche se il Giordano gli salisse fino alla bocca.
24 He taketh it with his eyes: his nose pierceth through snares.	24 Chi potrà afferrarlo per gli occhi, prenderlo con lacci e forargli le narici?
	25 Puoi tu pescare il Leviatan con l'amo e tener ferma la sua lingua con una corda,
	26 ficcargli un giunco nelle narici e forargli la mascella con un uncino?
	27 Ti farà forse molte suppliche e ti rivolgerà dolci parole?
	28 Stipulerà forse con te un'alleanza, perché tu lo prenda come servo per sempre?
	29 Scherzerai con lui come un passero, legandolo per le tue fanciulle?
	30 Lo metteranno in vendita le compagnie di pesca, se lo divideranno i commercianti?
	31 Crivellerai di dardi la sua pelle e con la fiocina la sua testa?
	32 Metti su di lui la mano: al ricordo della lotta, non rimproverai!
