Proverbs 9

1 Wisdom hath built herself a house, she hath hewn her out seven pillars.	1 La Sapienza si è costruita la casa, ha intagliato le sue sette colonne.
2 She hath slain her victims, mingled her wine, and set forth her table.	2 Ha ucciso gli animali, ha preparato il vino e ha imbandito la tavola.
3 She hath sent her maids to invite to the tower, and to the walls of the city:	3 Ha mandato le sue ancelle a proclamare sui punti più alti della città:
4 Whosoever is a little one, let him come to me. And to the unwise she said:	4 "Chi è inesperto accorra qui!". A chi è privo di senno essa dice:
5 Come, eat my bread, and drink the wine which I have mingled for you.	5 "Venite, mangiate il mio pane, bevete il vino che io ho preparato.
6 Forsake childishness, and live, and walk by the ways of prudence.	6 Abbandonate la stoltezza e vivrete, andate diritti per la via dell'intelligenza".
7 He that teacheth a scorner, doth an injury to himself: and he that rebuketh a wicked man, getteth himself a blot.	7 Chi corregge il beffardo se ne attira il disprezzo, chi rimprovera l'empio se ne attira l'insulto.
8 Rebuke not a scorner lest he hate thee. Rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.	8 Non rimproverare il beffardo per non farti odiare; rimprovera il saggio ed egli ti amerà.
9 Give an occasion to a wise man, and wisdom shall be added to him. Teach a just man, and he shall make haste to receive it.	9 Da' consigli al saggio e diventerà ancora più saggio; istruisci il giusto ed egli aumenterà la dottrina.
10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is prudence.	10 Fondamento della sapienza è il timore di Dio, la scienza del Santo è intelligenza.
11 For by me shall thy days be multiplied, and years of life shall be added to thee.	11 Per mezzo mio si moltiplicano i tuoi giorni, ti saranno aggiunti anni di vita.
12 If thou be wise, thou shalt be so to thyself: and if a scorner, thou alone shalt bear the evil.	12 Se sei sapiente, lo sei a tuo vantaggio, se sei beffardo, tu solo ne porterai la pena.
13 A foolish woman and clamorous, and full of allurements, and knowing nothing at all,	13 Donna irrequieta è follia, una sciocca che non sa nulla.
14 Sat at the door of her house, upon a seat, in a high place of the city,	14 Sta seduta alla porta di casa, su un trono, in un luogo alto della città,
15 To call them that pass by the way, and go on their journey:	15 per invitare i passanti che vanno diritti per la loro strada:
16 He that is a little one, let him turn to me. And to the fool she said:	16 "Chi è inesperto venga qua!". E a chi è privo di senno essa dice:
17 Stolen waters are sweeter, and hid den bread is more pleasant.	17 "Le acque furtive sono dolci, il pane preso di nascosto è gustoso".
18 And he did not know that giants are there, and that her guests are in the depths of hell. The Parables of Solomon	18 Egli non si accorge che là ci sono le ombre e che i suoi invitati se ne vanno nel profondo degli inferi.
