1 Aquele que tem compaixão empresta com juros ao seu próximo; aquele que tem a mão generosa guarda os mandamentos.	1 He shows mercy who lends to his neighbor, for he keeps the commandments by strengthening him.
2 Empresta a teu próximo quando ele estiver necessitado, e de teu lado, paga-lhe o que lhe deves, no tempo marcado.	2 Lend to your neighbor in his time of need, and receive it again from your neighbor in his time.
3 Cumpre tua palavra e procede lealmente com ele, e acharás em toda ocasião o que te é necessário.	3 Keep your word, and act faithfully with him, and then you will find whatever you need in every time.
4 Muitos consideraram como um achado o que pediam emprestado, e causaram desgosto àqueles que os ajudaram.	4 Many have treated a loan like found money, and they offered trouble to those who helped them.
5 Até que se tenha recebido, beija-se a mão de quem empresta; com voz humilde fazem-se promessas;	5 Until they receive, they kiss the hands of the giver, and they humble their voice in promises.
6 mas, chegando o tempo de restituir, pedem-se prazos; só se têm palavras pesarosas e queixas; e toma-se como pretexto (a dificuldade) da época.	6 But at the time of repayment, they will ask for more time, and they will speak annoying and complaining words, and they will make excuses for the time.
7 Se o que pede emprestado pode restituir, nega-se a princípio. Restitui em seguida só a metade da quantia, e a considera como um lucro.	7 Then, if he is able to repay, he will turn away. He will pay barely one half, and he will consider it as if he had found it.
8 Se não tem meios para pagar, priva o que emprestou do seu dinheiro, e dele se faz gratuitamente um inimigo.	8 But if not, then he will defraud him of his money, and he will have him as an enemy without cause.
9 Ele o paga com ofensas e maldições, e paga com o mal o bem que recebeu.	9 And he will repay him with accusations and curses, and he will repay him with contempt, instead of with honor and kindness.
10 Muitos não emprestam, não por maldade, mas por medo de serem injustamente iludidos.	10 Many have refused to lend, not because of wickedness, but because they were afraid to be defrauded without cause.
11 Todavia, sê indulgente para com o miserável, e não o faças esmorecer depois da esmola.	11 Yet truly, be more steadfast toward the humble, and you should not delay in acts of mercy toward them.
12 Por causa do mandamento, socorre o pobre; e não o deixes ir com as mãos vazias na sua indigência.	12 Assist the poor because of the commandment. And you should not send him away empty because of his dire need.
13 Perde o teu dinheiro em favor de teu irmão e de teu amigo; não o escondas debaixo de uma pedra para ficar perdido.	13 Lose your money to your brother and your friend. For you should not hide it under a stone to be lost.
14 Gasta o teu tesouro segundo o preceito do Altíssimo, e isso te aproveitará mais do que o ouro.	14 Let your treasure be in the precepts of the Most High, and it will benefit you more than gold.
15 Encerra a esmola no coração do pobre, e ela rogará por ti a fim de te preservar de todo o mal.	15 Store your alms in the hearts of the poor, and it will obtain help for you against all evil.
16 Para combater o teu inimigo, ela será uma arma mais poderosa do que o escudo e a lança de umhomem valente.	16 Better than the shield or the lance of a powerful man,
17 .	17 it will fight for you against your enemy.
18 .	18 A good man offers credit for the sake of his neighbor. But one who abandons him to himself will perish in shame.
19 O homem de bem responsabiliza-se pelo próximo; o homem sem pejo abandona-o a si próprio.	19 You should not forget the kindness of your benefactor. For he has offered his life on your behalf.
20 Não esqueças o benefício daquele que se responsabiliza por ti, pois ele arriscou a vida para te amparar.	20 The sinner and the unclean flee from such promises.
21 O pecador e o impudico fogem de seu fiador;	21 A sinner attributes to himself the goods of his loan. And an ungrateful mind will abandon the one who has freed him.
22 o pecador atribui a si mesmo o benefício de quem por ele se responsabiliza, e com coração ingrato abandona o seu libertador.	22 A man offers credit to his neighbor. But when he will have lost respect, he will abandon him.
23 Um homem se responsabiliza pelo seu próximo, e este, perdendo a vergonha, o abandonará.	23 A wicked promise has destroyed many who had good intentions, and has tossed them like a wave on the ocean.
24 Um mau penhor perdeu muitas pessoas que prosperavam, e as agitou como as ondas do mar;	24 It has caused powerful men to travel around, and they have wandered amid foreign nations.
25 por uma reviravolta das coisas, ele exilou muitos poderosos, que se tornaram peregrinos em terra estrangeira.	25 A sinner transgressing the commandment of the Lord will fall into a wicked promise. And he who undertakes many things will fall into judgment.
26 O pecador que transgride o mandamento do Senhor, comprometer-se-á a responder inoportunamente por outro; e aquele que tentar muitos empreendimentos não escapará do processo.	26 Help your neighbor to recover according to your ability, but attend to yourself, lest you also fall.
27 Ajuda o próximo conforme as tuas posses, e acautela-te para que não caias tu também.	27 The primary need in a man’s life is water and bread, and clothing, and a house to protect modesty.
28 O principal para a vida do homem é a água, o pão, o vestuário e uma casa para ocultar a sua nudez.	28 A pauper’s food under a roof of boards is better than a splendid feast on a sojourn away from home.
29 Mais vale o que um pobre come sob um vigamento, do que um magnífico banquete em casa alheia para quem não tem domicílio.	29 Let yourself be pleased with little instead of much, and you will not hear the reproach of being away from home.
30 Contenta-te com o pouco ou muito que tiveres e evitarás a censura de seres um estranho.	30 It is a wicked life to go from house to house as a guest. For wherever he is a guest, he will not act confidently, nor open his mouth.
31 É uma vida miserável a daquele que vai de casa em casa; em toda parte onde se hospedar, não estará confiante, e não ousará abrir a boca.	31 He will entertain, and feed, and give drink to the ungrateful, and beyond this, he will listen to bitter words:
32 Recebe-se com hospitalidade, dá-se de comer e de beber a ingratos; e, depois disso, ouvem-se palavras desagradáveis:	32 “Go, my guest, and set the table, and let others eat from what you have in your hand.”
33 Vamos, intruso, prepara a mesa, e o que tens, dá-o de comer aos outros;	33 “Depart from the honored face of my friends. For it has become necessary for my house to host my brother instead.”
34 retira-te, por causa da homenagem que devo prestar aos meus amigos. Preciso de minha casa para nela receber meu irmão.	34 These things are grievous to a man having understanding: to take advantage of a household, and to reproach a lender.
35 Eis coisas penosas para um homem sensato: ouvir censuras pela hospitalidade e pelo empréstimo que se fez.
