Prima lettera ai Tessalonicesi 5

LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Circa il tempo e l'ora, o fratelli, non avete bisogno che ve ne scriviamo.	1 About times and dates, brothers, there is no need to write to you
2 Voi stessi infatti sapete perfettamente che il giorno del Signore arriva come un ladro di notte.	2 for you are wel aware in any case that the Day of the Lord is going to come like a thief in the night.
3 Quando diranno: Pace e sicurezza, allora improvvisamente precipiterà su di essi la rovina, come i dolori del parto sulla donna incinta; e non sfuggiranno.	3 It is when people are saying, 'How quiet and peaceful it is' that sudden destruction fal s on them, assuddenly as labour pains come on a pregnant woman; and there is no escape.
4 Ma voi, fratelli, non siete nelle tenebre, così che quel giorno vi sorprenda come un ladro;	4 But you, brothers, do not live in the dark, that the Day should take you unawares like a thief.
5 infatti voi siete tutti figli della luce e figli del giorno: non siamo né della notte né delle tenebre.	5 No, you are al children of light and children of the day: we do not belong to the night or to darkness,
6 Pertanto non dormiamo come gli altri, ma vegliamo e siamo temperanti.	6 so we should not go on sleeping, as everyone else does, but stay wide awake and sober.
7 Quelli che dormono, dormono di notte e quelli che si inebriano, si inebriano di notte.	7 Night is the time for sleepers to sleep and night the time for drunkards to be drunk,
8 Noi, invece, che siamo del giorno, siamo sobri, rivestiti con la corazza della fede e della carità, avendo per elmo la speranza della salvezza.	8 but we belong to the day and we should be sober; let us put on faith and love for a breastplate, and thehope of salvation for a helmet.
9 Dio non ci ha destinati all'ira, ma all'acquisto della salute per mezzo del Signore nostro Gesù Cristo,	9 God destined us not for his retribution, but to win salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
10 il quale è morto per noi, affinché, sia che vegliamo sia che ci addormentiamo, con lui viviamo.	10 who died for us so that, awake or asleep, we should stil live united to him.
11 Perciò consolatevi gli uni gli altri, edificandovi scambievolmente, come già fate.	11 So give encouragement to each other, and keep strengthening one another, as you do already.
12 Vi preghiamo, fratelli, di apprezzare quelli che faticano in mezzo a voi e vi presiedono nel Signore e vi ammoniscono:	12 We appeal to you, my brothers, to be considerate to those who work so hard among you as yourleaders in the Lord and those who admonish you.
13 stimateli sommamente nella carità, a causa della loro opera. Vivete in pace tra voi stessi.	13 Have the greatest respect and affection for them because of their work. Be at peace amongyourselves.
14 Vi esortiamo, fratelli, correggete gli indisciplinati, incoraggiate i pusillanimi, sostenete i deboli, usate pazienza con tutti.	14 We urge you, brothers, to admonish those who are undisciplined, encourage the apprehensive,support the weak and be patient with everyone.
15 Guardate che nessuno renda a un altro male per male, piuttosto studiate sempre di fare il bene gli uni agli altri e a tutti.	15 Make sure that people do not try to repay evil for evil; always aim at what is best for each other and foreveryone.
16 Siate sempre lieti.	16 Always be joyful;
17 Pregate senza interruzione.	17 pray constantly;
18 Rendete grazie in ogni cosa: questa è la volontà di Dio a vostro riguardo, in Gesù Cristo.	18 and for al things give thanks; this is the wil of God for you in Christ Jesus.
19 Non spegnete lo Spirito.	19 Do not stifle the Spirit
20 Non disprezzate le profezie.	20 or despise the gift of prophecy with contempt;
21 Esaminate ogni cosa: ritenete ciò che è buono.	21 test everything and hold on to what is good
22 Tenetevi lontano da ogni sorta di male.	22 and shun every form of evil.
23 Egli stesso, il Dio della pace, vi santifichi totalmente e tutto il vostro essere, spirito, anima e corpo, siano custoditi irreprensibili per la parusia del Signore nostro Gesù Cristo.	23 May the God of peace make you perfect and holy; and may your spirit, life and body be keptblameless for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24 Fedele è colui che vi chiama; egli porterà tutto a compimento.	24 He who has cal ed you is trustworthy and wil carry it out.
25 Fratelli, pregate anche per noi.	25 Pray for us, my brothers.
26 Salutate tutti i fratelli con un bacio santo.	26 Greet al the brothers with a holy kiss.
27 Vi scongiuro nel Signore che questa lettera sia letta a tutti i fratelli.	27 My orders, in the Lord's name, are that this letter is to be read to al the brothers.
