1 These are the generations of the sons of Noah: Shem, Ham, and Japheth, and of the sons who were born to them after the great flood.1 These are the descendants of Noah's sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth, to whom sons were born afterthe flood:
2 The sons of Japheth were Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras.2 Japheth's sons: Gomer, Magog, the Medes, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, Tiras.
3 And then the sons of Gomer were Ashkenaz, and Riphath, and Togarmah.3 Gomer's sons: Ashkenaz, Riphath, Togarmah.
4 And the sons of Javan were Elishah, and Tarshish, Kittim, and Rodanim.4 Javan's sons: Elishah, Tarshish, the Kittim, the Dananites.
5 The islands of the Gentiles were divided by these into their regions, each one according to his tongue, and their families in their nations.5 From these came the dispersal to the islands of the nations. These were Japheth's sons, in theirrespective countries, each with its own language, by clan and nation.
6 And the Sons of Ham were Cush, and Mizraim, and Put, and Canaan.6 Ham's sons: Cush, Mizraim, Put, Canaan.
7 And the sons of Cush were Seba, and Havilah, and Sabtah, and Raamah, and Sabteca. The sons of Raamah were Sheba and Dadan.7 Cush's sons: Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, Sabteca. Raamah's sons: Sheba, Dedan.
8 And then Cush conceived Nimrod; he began to be powerful on the earth.8 Cush fathered Nimrod who was the first potentate on earth.
9 And he was an able hunter before the Lord. From this, a proverb came forth: ‘Just like Nimrod, an able hunter before the Lord.’9 He was a mighty hunter in the eyes of Yahweh, hence the saying, 'Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter in theeyes of Yahweh'.
10 And so, the beginning of his kingdom was Babylon, and Erech, and Accad, and Chalanne, in the land of Shinar.10 The mainstays of his empire were Babel, Erech and Accad, all of them in the land of Shinar.
11 From that land, Assur came forth, and he built Nineveh, and the streets of the city, and Calah,11 From this country came Asshur, and he built Nineveh, Rehoboth-Ir, Calah,
12 and also Resen, between Nineveh and Calah. This is a great city.12 and Resen between Nineveh and Calah (this being the capital).
13 And truly, Mizraim conceived Ludim, and Anamim, and Lehabim, Naphtuhim,13 Mizraim fathered the people of Lud, of Anam, Lehab, Naphtuh,
14 and Pathrusim, and Casluhim, from whom came forth the Philistines and the Caphtorim.14 Pathros, Casluh and Caphtor, from which the Philistines came.
15 Then Canaan conceived Sidon his firstborn, the Hittite,15 Canaan fathered Sidon, his first-born, then Heth,
16 and the Jebusite, and the Amorite, the Girgashite,16 and the Jebusites, the Amorites, Girgashites,
17 the Hivite, and the Arkite: the Sinite,17 Hivites, Arkites, Sinites,
18 and the Arvadian, the Samarite, and the Hamathite. And after this, the peoples of the Canaanites became widespread.18 Arvadites, Zemarites and Hamathites. Later, the Canaanite clans spread out.
19 And the borders of Chanaan went, as one travels, from Sidon to Gerar, even to Gaza, until one enters Sodom and Gomorrah, and from Admah and Zeboiim, even to Lesa.19 The Canaanite frontier stretched from Sidon al the way to Gerar near Gaza, and al the way toSodom, Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboi m near Lesha.
20 These are the sons of Ham in their kindred, and tongues, and generations, and lands, and nations.20 These were Ham's sons, by clans and languages, by countries and nations.
21 Likewise, from Shem, the father of all the sons of Heber, the elder brother of Japheth, sons were born.21 Shem too fathered sons, being ancestor of all the sons of Eber and Japheth's elder brother.
22 The sons of Shem were Elam, and Asshur, and Arphaxad, and Lud, and Aram.22 Shem's sons: Elam, Asshur, Arpachshad, Lud, Aram.
23 The sons of Aram were Uz, and Hul, and Gether, and Mash.23 Aram's sons: Uz, Hul, Gether and Mash.
24 But truly, Arphaxad conceived Shelah, from whom was born Eber.24 Arpachshad fathered Shelah, and Shelah fathered Eber.
25 And to Eber were born two sons: the name of the one was Peleg, for in his days the earth became divided, and his brother’s name was Joktan.25 To Eber were born two sons: the first was cal ed Peleg, because it was in his time that the earth wasdivided, and his brother was called Joktan.
26 This Joktan conceived Almodad, and Sheleph, and Hazarmaveth, Jerah26 Joktan fathered Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,
27 and Hadoram, and Uzal and Diklah,27 Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,
28 and Obal and Abimael, Sheba28 Obal, Abima-El, Sheba,
29 and Ophir, and Havilah and Jobab. All these were the sons of Joktan.29 Ophir, Havilah, Jobab; al these were sons of Joktan.
30 And their habitation extended from Messa, as one sojourns, even to Sephar, a mountain in the east.30 They occupied a stretch of country from Mesha all the way to Sephar, the eastern mountain range.
31 These are the sons of Shem according to their kindred, and tongues, and the regions within their nations.31 These were Shem's sons, by clans and languages, by countries and nations.
32 These are the families of Noah, according to their peoples and nations. The nations became divided according to these, on the earth after the great flood.32 Such were the clans of Noah's descendants, listed by descent and nation. From them, other nationsbranched out on earth after the flood.
