CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAINDOUAI-RHEIMS
These are the generations of the sons of Noah: Shem, Ham, and Japheth, and of the sons who were born to them after the great flood.1 These are the generations of the sons of Noe: Sem, Cham, and Japheth: and unto them sons were born after the flood.
The sons of Japheth were Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras.2 The sons of Japheth: Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Thubal, and Mosoch, and Thiras.
And then the sons of Gomer were Ashkenaz, and Riphath, and Togarmah.3 And the sons of Gomer: Ascenez and Riphath and Thogorma.
And the sons of Javan were Elishah, and Tarshish, Kittim, and Rodanim.4 And the sons of Javan: Elisa and Tharsis, Cetthim, and Dodanim.
The islands of the Gentiles were divided by these into their regions, each one according to his tongue, and their families in their nations.5 By these were divided the islands of the Gentiles in their lands, every one according to his tongue and their families in their nations.
And the Sons of Ham were Cush, and Mizraim, and Put, and Canaan.6 And the sons of Cham: Chus, and Mesram, and Phuth, and Chanaan.
And the sons of Cush were Seba, and Havilah, and Sabtah, and Raamah, and Sabteca. The sons of Raamah were Sheba and Dadan.7 And the sons of Chus: Saba and Hevila, and Sabatha, and Regma, and Sabatacha. The sons of Regma: Saba and Dadan.
And then Cush conceived Nimrod; he began to be powerful on the earth.8 Now Chus begot Nemrod: he began to be mighty on earth.
And he was an able hunter before the Lord. From this, a proverb came forth: ‘Just like Nimrod, an able hunter before the Lord.’9 And he was a stout hunter before the Lord. Hence came a proverb: Even as Nemrod the stout hunter before the Lord.
And so, the beginning of his kingdom was Babylon, and Erech, and Accad, and Chalanne, in the land of Shinar.10 And the beginning of his kingdom was Babylon, and Arach, and Achad, and Chalanne in the land of Sennaar.
From that land, Assur came forth, and he built Nineveh, and the streets of the city, and Calah,11 Out of that land came forth Assur, and built Ninive, and the streets of the city, and Chale.
and also Resen, between Nineveh and Calah. This is a great city.12 Resen also between Ninive and Chale: this is the great city.
And truly, Mizraim conceived Ludim, and Anamim, and Lehabim, Naphtuhim,13 And Mesraim begot Ludim, and Anamim, and Laabim, Nepthuim,
and Pathrusim, and Casluhim, from whom came forth the Philistines and the Caphtorim.14 And Phetrusim, and Chasluim; of whom came forth the Philistines, and the Capthorim.
Then Canaan conceived Sidon his firstborn, the Hittite,15 And Chanaan begot Sidon, his firstborn, the Hethite,
and the Jebusite, and the Amorite, the Girgashite,16 And the Jebusite, and the Amorrhite, and the Gergesite,
the Hivite, and the Arkite: the Sinite,17 The Hevite and the Aracite: the Sinite,
and the Arvadian, the Samarite, and the Hamathite. And after this, the peoples of the Canaanites became widespread.18 And the Aradian, the Samarite, and the Hamathite: and afterwards the families of the Chanaanites were spread abroad.
And the borders of Chanaan went, as one travels, from Sidon to Gerar, even to Gaza, until one enters Sodom and Gomorrah, and from Admah and Zeboiim, even to Lesa.19 And the limits of Chanaan were from Sidon as one comes to Gerara even to Gaza, until thou enter Sodom and Gomorrha, and Adama, and Seboim even to Lesa.
These are the sons of Ham in their kindred, and tongues, and generations, and lands, and nations.20 These are the children of Cham in their kindreds, and tongues, and generations, and lands, and nations.
Likewise, from Shem, the father of all the sons of Heber, the elder brother of Japheth, sons were born.21 Of Sem also, the father of all children of Heber, the elder brother of Japheth, sons were born.
The sons of Shem were Elam, and Asshur, and Arphaxad, and Lud, and Aram.22 The sons of Sem: Elam and Assur, and Arphaxad, and Lud, and Aram.
The sons of Aram were Uz, and Hul, and Gether, and Mash.23 The sons of Aram: Us and Hull, and Gether: and Mess.
But truly, Arphaxad conceived Shelah, from whom was born Eber.24 But Arphaxad begot Sale, of whom was born Heber.
And to Eber were born two sons: the name of the one was Peleg, for in his days the earth became divided, and his brother’s name was Joktan.25 And to Heber were born two sons: the name of the one was Phaleg, because in his days the earth was divided: and his brother's name Jectan.
This Joktan conceived Almodad, and Sheleph, and Hazarmaveth, Jerah26 Which Jectan begot Elmodad, and Saleph, and Asarmoth, Jare,
and Hadoram, and Uzal and Diklah,27 And Anduram, and Uzal, and Decla,
and Obal and Abimael, Sheba28 And Ebal, and Abimael, Saba,
and Ophir, and Havilah and Jobab. All these were the sons of Joktan.29 And Ophir, and Hevila, and Jobab.
And their habitation extended from Messa, as one sojourns, even to Sephar, a mountain in the east.30 And their dwelling was from Messa as we go on as far as Sephar, a mountain in the east.
These are the sons of Shem according to their kindred, and tongues, and the regions within their nations.31 These are the children of Sem according to their kindreds and tongues, and countries in their nations.
These are the families of Noah, according to their peoples and nations. The nations became divided according to these, on the earth after the great flood.32 These are the families of Noe, according to their peoples and nations. By these were the nations divided on the earth after the flood.
