CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAINBIBLES DES PEUPLES
These are the generations of the sons of Noah: Shem, Ham, and Japheth, and of the sons who were born to them after the great flood.1 Voici la descendance des fils de Noé: Sem, Kam et Japhet, lesquels engendrèrent des fils après le déluge.
The sons of Japheth were Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras.2 Fils de Japhet: Gomer, Magog, les Mèdes, Yavan, Toubal, Méchek, Tiras.
And then the sons of Gomer were Ashkenaz, and Riphath, and Togarmah.3 Fils de Gomer: Achkénaz, Riphat, Togorma.
And the sons of Javan were Elishah, and Tarshish, Kittim, and Rodanim.4 Fils de Yavan: Élicha, Tarsis, Kittim, les Dananéens.
The islands of the Gentiles were divided by these into their regions, each one according to his tongue, and their families in their nations.5 C’est à partir d’eux que se fit la dispersion dans les îles lointaines. Ce sont là les fils de Japhet d’après leurs pays, selon leurs langues, leurs clans et leurs nations.
And the Sons of Ham were Cush, and Mizraim, and Put, and Canaan.6 Fils de Kam: Kouch, Misraïm, Pout, Canaan.
And the sons of Cush were Seba, and Havilah, and Sabtah, and Raamah, and Sabteca. The sons of Raamah were Sheba and Dadan.7 Fils de Kouch: Séba, Havila, Sabta, Rama, Sabtéka. Fils de Rama: Chéba, Dédan.
And then Cush conceived Nimrod; he began to be powerful on the earth.8 Kouch engendra Nemrod qui fut le premier héros sur la terre.
And he was an able hunter before the Lord. From this, a proverb came forth: ‘Just like Nimrod, an able hunter before the Lord.’9 C’était un vaillant chasseur devant Yahvé. C’est pour cela que l’on dit: “Vaillant chasseur devant Yahvé comme Nemrod.”
And so, the beginning of his kingdom was Babylon, and Erech, and Accad, and Chalanne, in the land of Shinar.10 Ceux qui soutenaient son empire étaient: Babel, Érek, et Akkad. Toutes ces villes sont au pays de Chinéar.
From that land, Assur came forth, and he built Nineveh, and the streets of the city, and Calah,11 De ce pays sortit Assur, c’est lui qui construisit Ninive, Réhobot-Ir, Kala
and also Resen, between Nineveh and Calah. This is a great city.12 et Résèn entre Ninive et Kala (c’est une grande ville).
And truly, Mizraim conceived Ludim, and Anamim, and Lehabim, Naphtuhim,13 Misraïm engendra les gens de Loud, d’Anam, de Léhab, de Naftou,
and Pathrusim, and Casluhim, from whom came forth the Philistines and the Caphtorim.14 de Patros, de Kaslou et de Kaftor, d’où sont sortis les Philistins.
Then Canaan conceived Sidon his firstborn, the Hittite,15 Canaan engendra Sidon qui fut son premier-né, puis Heth,
and the Jebusite, and the Amorite, the Girgashite,16 et le Jébusite, l’Amorite, le Guirgachite,
the Hivite, and the Arkite: the Sinite,17 le Hivvite, l’Arkite, le Sinite,
and the Arvadian, the Samarite, and the Hamathite. And after this, the peoples of the Canaanites became widespread.18 l’Arvadite, le Sémarite, le Hamatite. Ensuite les clans Cananéens se dispersèrent.
And the borders of Chanaan went, as one travels, from Sidon to Gerar, even to Gaza, until one enters Sodom and Gomorrah, and from Admah and Zeboiim, even to Lesa.19 La frontière des Cananéens partait de Sidon vers Guérar jusqu’à Gaza, et vers Sodome, Gomorrhe, Adma et Séboyim jusqu’à Lécha.
These are the sons of Ham in their kindred, and tongues, and generations, and lands, and nations.20 Ce sont là les fils de Kam, selon leurs clans et leurs langues, leurs pays et leurs nations.
Likewise, from Shem, the father of all the sons of Heber, the elder brother of Japheth, sons were born.21 Sem eut également une descendance. Il est l’ancêtre de tous les fils de Éber et le frère aîné de Japhet.
The sons of Shem were Elam, and Asshur, and Arphaxad, and Lud, and Aram.22 Fils de Sem: Élam, Assur, Arpakchad, Loud, Aram.
The sons of Aram were Uz, and Hul, and Gether, and Mash.23 Fils d’Aram: Ous, Houl, Guéter et Mach.
But truly, Arphaxad conceived Shelah, from whom was born Eber.24 Arpakchad engendra Chéla et Chéla engendra Éber.
And to Eber were born two sons: the name of the one was Peleg, for in his days the earth became divided, and his brother’s name was Joktan.25 Éber eut deux fils. Le premier s’appelait Péleg, c’est en son temps que la terre fut divisée. Son frère s’appelait Yoktan.
This Joktan conceived Almodad, and Sheleph, and Hazarmaveth, Jerah26 Yoktan engendra Almodad, Chélef, Assarmavet, Yéra,
and Hadoram, and Uzal and Diklah,27 Adoram, Ouzal, Dikla,
and Obal and Abimael, Sheba28 Obal, Abimaël, Chéba,
and Ophir, and Havilah and Jobab. All these were the sons of Joktan.29 Ofir, Havila, Yobab. Ce sont là tous les fils de Yoktan.
And their habitation extended from Messa, as one sojourns, even to Sephar, a mountain in the east.30 Ils habitaient à partir de Mécha en allant vers Séfar, la montagne de l’Orient.
These are the sons of Shem according to their kindred, and tongues, and the regions within their nations.31 Ce sont les fils de Sem selon leurs clans et leurs langues, leurs pays et leurs nations.
These are the families of Noah, according to their peoples and nations. The nations became divided according to these, on the earth after the great flood.32 Voilà les descendants de Noé selon leurs lignées et leurs nations. C’est à partir d’eux que les peuples se dispersèrent sur la terre après le déluge.
