| 1 E il Signore visitò Sara, conforme avea promesso, e adempié la sua parola. | 1 The LORD visited Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did to Sarah as he had promised. |
| 2 Ed ella concepì, e partorì un figliuolo nella sua vecchiezza, al tempo predettole da Dio; | 2 And Sarah conceived, and bore Abraham a son in his old age at the time of which God had spoken to him. |
| 3 E Abramo pose il nome d'Isaac al figliuolo partoritogli da Sara: | 3 Abraham called the name of his son who was born to him, whom Sarah bore him, Isaac. |
| 4 E l'ottavo giorno lo circoncise, conforme Dio gli avea comandato, | 4 And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him. |
| 5 Avendo egli cento anni: imperocché di questa età era il padre, quando nacque Isacco. | 5 Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him. |
| 6 E disse Sara: Dio mi ha dato, onde ridere: e chiunque ne udirà la novella, riderà meco. | 6 And Sarah said, "God has made laughter for me; every one who hears will laugh over me." |
| 7 E soggiunse: Chi avrebbe creduto, dovere Abramo sentirsi dire, che Sara allatterebbe un figliuolo partorito a lui già vecchio? | 7 And she said, "Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would suckle children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age." |
| 8 Crebbe adunque il bambino, e fu divezzato; e nel giorno, in cui fu divezzato fece Abramo un gran convito. | 8 And the child grew, and was weaned; and Abraham made a great feast on the day that Isaac was weaned. |
| 9 Ma Sara avendo veduto il figliuolo di Agar Egiziana, che scherniva il suo figlio Isacco, disse ad Abramo: | 9 But Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham, playing with her son Isaac. |
| 10 Caccia questa schiava, e il suo figlio: perocché non sarà erede il figlio della schiava col figlio mio Isacco. | 10 So she said to Abraham, "Cast out this slave woman with her son; for the son of this slave woman shall not be heir with my son Isaac." |
| 11 Duro parve ad Abramo questo parlare riguardo ad un suo figlio. | 11 And the thing was very displeasing to Abraham on account of his son. |
| 12 Il Signore però gli disse: Non sembri a te aspro il far ciò ad un fanciullo, e ad una tua schiava: in tutto quello che dirà a te Sara, ascolta le sue parole: perocché in Isacco sarà la tua discendenza. | 12 But God said to Abraham, "Be not displeased because of the lad and because of your slave woman; whatever Sarah says to you, do as she tells you, for through Isaac shall your descendants be named. |
| 13 Ma il figliuolo ancor della schiava farò capo di una nazione grande, perché egli è tua stirpe. | 13 And I will make a nation of the son of the slave woman also, because he is your offspring." |
| 14 Abramo adunque alzatosi la mattina, prese del pane e un otre di acqua, e lo pose a lei sulle spalle, e le diede il fanciullo, e la licenziò. E quella partitasi andò errando per la solitudine di Bersabea. | 14 So Abraham rose early in the morning, and took bread and a skin of water, and gave it to Hagar, putting it on her shoulder, along with the child, and sent her away. And she departed, and wandered in the wilderness of Beer-sheba. |
| 15 Ed essendo venuta meno l'acqua dell'otre, gettò il fanciullo sotto uno degli alberi, che eran ivi. | 15 When the water in the skin was gone, she cast the child under one of the bushes. |
| 16 E se n'andò, e si pose a sedere dirimpetto in distanza di un tiro d'arco; imperocché disse: Non vedrò morire il fanciullo: e sedendogli in faccia alzò la sua voce, e pianse. | 16 Then she went, and sat down over against him a good way off, about the distance of a bowshot; for she said, "Let me not look upon the death of the child." And as she sat over against him, the child lifted up his voice and wept. |
| 17 E il Signore esaudì la voce del fanciullo: e l'Angelo di Dio dal cielo chiamò Agar, dicendo: Che fai, o Agar? Non temere: perocché il Signore ha esaudito la voce del fanciullo dal luogo, ov'ei si trova. | 17 And God heard the voice of the lad; and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven, and said to her, "What troubles you, Hagar? Fear not; for God has heard the voice of the lad where he is. |
| 18 Alzati; prendi il fanciullo, e tienlo per la mano, conciossiaché io lo farò capo di una nazione grande. | 18 Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him fast with your hand; for I will make him a great nation." |
| 19 E Dio le aperse gli occhi: ed ella vide un pozzo di acqua, e andò ad empier l'otre, e diede da bere al fanciullo. | 19 Then God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went, and filled the skin with water, and gave the lad a drink. |
| 20 E (Dio) fu con lui, ed egli crebbe, e abitò nella solitudine, e divenne giovane esperto a tirar d'arco. | 20 And God was with the lad, and he grew up; he lived in the wilderness, and became an expert with the bow. |
| 21 E abitò nel deserto di Pharan: e sua madre gli diede una moglie Egiziana. | 21 He lived in the wilderness of Paran; and his mother took a wife for him from the land of Egypt. |
| 22 Nello stesso tempo Abimelech, e Phicol capitano del suo esercito disse ad Abramo: Iddio è con te in tutto quello che tu fai. | 22 At that time Abimelech and Phicol the commander of his army said to Abraham, "God is with you in all that you do; |
| 23 Giura adunque per Dio di non far male a me, e a' miei posteri, e alla mia stirpe: ma che, siccome io ho fatto del bene a te, così tu ne farai a me, e a questa terra, in cui se' stato pellegrino. | 23 now therefore swear to me here by God that you will not deal falsely with me or with my offspring or with my posterity, but as I have dealt loyally with you, you will deal with me and with the land where you have sojourned." |
| 24 E Abramo disse: Io ne farò giuramento. | 24 And Abraham said, "I will swear." |
| 25 E fece delle querele con Abimelech per ragione di un pozzo di acqua, che i servi di lui si erano usurpati per forza. | 25 When Abraham complained to Abimelech about a well of water which Abimelech's servants had seized, |
| 26 E Abimelech rispose: Non ho saputo chi abbia fatta tal cosa: ma né pur tu me ne hai fatto motto, ed io non ne ho sentito parlare se non adesso. | 26 Abimelech said, "I do not know who has done this thing; you did not tell me, and I have not heard of it until today." |
| 27 Abramo adunque prese delle pecore e de' bovi, e li diede ad Abimelech: e ambedue fecero alleanza. | 27 So Abraham took sheep and oxen and gave them to Abimelech, and the two men made a covenant. |
| 28 E Abramo pose sette agnelle di branco da parte. | 28 Abraham set seven ewe lambs of the flock apart. |
| 29 E dissegli Abimelech: Che vogliono dire queste sette agnelle, che tu fai stare da parte? | 29 And Abimelech said to Abraham, "What is the meaning of these seven ewe lambs which you have set apart?" |
| 30 Ed egli disse: Sette agnelle riceverai tu dalla mia mano: affinché servano a me di testimonianza, come io ho scavato quel pozzo. | 30 He said, "These seven ewe lambs you will take from my hand, that you may be a witness for me that I dug this well." |
| 31 Per questo fu quel luogo chiamato Bersabee; perché l'uno e l'altro ivi fatto avea giuramento. | 31 Therefore that place was called Beer-sheba; because there both of them swore an oath. |
| 32 E avean fatto accordo circa il pozzo del giuramento. | 32 So they made a covenant at Beer-sheba. Then Abimelech and Phicol the commander of his army rose up and returned to the land of the Philistines. |
| 33 E se n'andarono Abimelech, e Phicol capitano del suo esercito, e tornarono nella terra de' Palestini. Abramo poi piantò una selva a Bersabee, e ivi invocò il nome del Signore Dio eterno. | 33 Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beer-sheba, and called there on the name of the LORD, the Everlasting God. |
| 34 E abitò pellegrino nella terra de' Palestini per molto tempo. | 34 And Abraham sojourned many days in the land of the Philistines. |
