Prima lettera ai Tessalonicesi 4

1 Per il resto, fratelli, vi preghiamo e supplichiamo nel Signore Gesù: avete appreso da noi come comportarvi in modo da piacere a Dio, e così già vi comportate; cercate di agire sempre così per distinguervi ancora di più.	1 Final y, brothers, we urge you and appeal to you in the Lord Jesus; we instructed you how to live in theway that pleases God, and you are so living; but make more progress stil .
2 Voi conoscete infatti quali norme vi abbiamo dato da parte del Signore Gesù.	2 You are well aware of the instructions we gave you on the authority of the Lord Jesus.
3 Perché questa è la volontà di Dio, la vostra santificazione: che vi asteniate dalla impudicizia,	3 God wil s you al to be holy. He wants you to keep away from sexual immorality,
4 che ciascuno sappia mantenere il proprio corpo con santità e rispetto,	4 and each one of you to know how to control his body in a way that is holy and honourable,
5 non come oggetto di passioni e libidine, come i pagani che non conoscono Dio;	5 not giving way to selfish lust like the nations who do not acknowledge God.
6 che nessuno offenda e inganni in questa materia il proprio fratello, perché il Signore è vindice di tutte queste cose, come già vi abbiamo detto e attestato.	6 He wants nobody at al ever to sin by taking advantage of a brother in these matters; the Lord alwayspays back sins of that sort, as we told you before emphatical y.
7 Dio non ci ha chiamati all'impurità, ma alla santificazione.	7 God cal ed us to be holy, not to be immoral;
8 Perciò chi disprezza queste norme non disprezza un uomo, ma Dio stesso, che vi dona il suo Santo Spirito.	8 in other words, anyone who rejects this is rejecting not human authority, but God, who gives you hisHoly Spirit.
9 Riguardo all'amore fraterno, non avete bisogno che ve ne scriva; voi stessi infatti avete imparato da Dio ad amarvi gli uni gli altri,	9 As for brotherly love, there is no need to write to you about that, since you have yourselves learnt fromGod to love one another,
10 e questo voi fate verso tutti i fratelli dell'intera Macedonia. Ma vi esortiamo, fratelli, a farlo ancora di più	10 and in fact this is how you treat al the brothers throughout the whole of Macedonia. However, we dourge you, brothers, to go on making even greater progress
11 e a farvi un punto di onore: vivere in pace, attendere alle cose vostre e lavorare con le vostre mani, come vi abbiamo ordinato,	11 and to make a point of living quietly, attending to your own business and earning your living, just as wetold you to,
12 al fine di condurre una vita decorosa di fronte agli estranei e di non aver bisogno di nessuno.	12 so that you may earn the respect of outsiders and not be dependent on anyone.
13 Non vogliamo poi lasciarvi nell'ignoranza, fratelli, circa quelli che sono morti, perché non continuiate ad affliggervi come gli altri che non hanno speranza.	13 We want you to be quite certain, brothers, about those who have fallen asleep, to make sure that youdo not grieve for them, as others do who have no hope.
14 Noi crediamo infatti che Gesù è morto e risuscitato; così anche quelli che sono morti, Dio li radunerà per mezzo di Gesù insieme con lui.	14 We believe that Jesus died and rose again, and that in the same way God wil bring with him thosewho have fallen asleep in Jesus.
15 Questo vi diciamo sulla parola del Signore: noi che viviamo e saremo ancora in vita per la venuta del Signore, non avremo alcun vantaggio su quelli che sono morti.	15 We can tell you this from the Lord's own teaching, that we who are stil alive for the Lord's coming willnot have any advantage over those who have fallen asleep.
16 Perché il Signore stesso, a un ordine, alla voce dell'arcangelo e al suono della tromba di Dio, discenderà dal cielo. E prima risorgeranno i morti in Cristo;	16 At the signal given by the voice of the Archangel and the trumpet of God, the Lord himself wil comedown from heaven; those who have died in Christ wil be the first to rise,
17 quindi noi, i vivi, i superstiti, saremo rapiti insieme con loro tra le nuvole, per andare incontro al Signore nell'aria, e così saremo sempre con il Signore.	17 and only after that shall we who remain alive be taken up in the clouds, together with them, to meetthe Lord in the air. This is the way we shall be with the Lord for ever.
18 Confortatevi dunque a vicenda con queste parole.	18 With such thoughts as these, then, you should encourage one another.
