BIBBIA CEI 1974	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Ecco, io manderò un mio messaggero a preparare la via davanti a me e subito entrerà nel suo tempio il Signore, che voi cercate; l'angelo dell'alleanza, che voi sospirate, ecco viene, dice il Signore degli eserciti.	1 'Look, I shal send my messenger to clear a way before me. And suddenly the Lord whom you seek wilcome to his Temple; yes, the angel of the covenant, for whom you long, is on his way, says Yahweh Sabaoth.
2 Chi sopporterà il giorno della sua venuta? Chi resisterà al suo apparire? Egli è come il fuoco del fonditore e come la lisciva dei lavandai.	2 Who will be able to resist the day of his coming? Who wil remain standing when he appears? For hewil be like a refiner's fire, like ful ers' alkali.
3 Siederà per fondere e purificare; purificherà i figli di Levi, li affinerà come oro e argento, perché possano offrire al Signore un'oblazione secondo giustizia.	3 He wil take his seat as refiner and purifier; he will purify the sons of Levi and refine them like gold andsilver, so that they can make the offering to Yahweh with uprightness.
4 Allora l'offerta di Giuda e di Gerusalemme sarà gradita al Signore come nei giorni antichi, come negli anni lontani.	4 The offering of Judah and Jerusalem wil then be acceptable to Yahweh as in former days, as in theyears of old.
5 Io mi accosterò a voi per il giudizio e sarò un testimone pronto contro gli incantatori, contro gli adùlteri, contro gli spergiuri, contro chi froda il salario all'operaio, contro gli oppressori della vedova e dell'orfano e contro chi fa torto al forestiero. Costoro non mi temono, dice il Signore degli eserciti.	5 I am coming to put you on trial and I shal be a ready witness against sorcerers, adulterers, perjurers,and against those who oppress the wage-earner, the widow and the orphan, and who rob the foreigner of hisrights and do not respect me, says Yahweh Sabaoth.
6 Io sono il Signore, non cambio; voi, figli di Giacobbe, non siete ancora al termine.	6 'No; I, Yahweh, do not change; and you have not ceased to be children of Jacob!
7 Fin dai tempi dei vostri padri vi siete allontanati dai miei precetti, non li avete osservati. Ritornate a me e io tornerò a voi, dice il Signore degli eserciti. Ma voi dite: "Come dobbiamo tornare?".	7 Ever since the days of your ancestors, you have evaded my statutes and not observed them. Return tome and I will return to you, says Yahweh Sabaoth. You ask, "How are we to return?
8 Può un uomo frodare Dio? Eppure voi mi frodate e andate dicendo: "Come ti abbiamo frodato?". Nelle decime e nelle primizie.	8 Can a human being cheat God?" Yet you try to cheat me! You ask, "How do we try to cheat you?" Overtithes and contributions.
9 Siete già stati colpiti dalla maledizione e andate ancora frodandomi, voi, la nazione tutta!	9 A curse lies on you because you, this whole nation, try to cheat me.
10 Portate le decime intere nel tesoro del tempio, perché ci sia cibo nella mia casa; poi mettetemi pure alla prova in questo, - dice il Signore degli eserciti - se io non vi aprirò le cateratte del cielo e non riverserò su di voi benedizioni sovrabbondanti.	10 Bring the tithes in ful to the treasury, so that there is food in my house; put me to the test now like this,says Yahweh Sabaoth, and see if I do not open the floodgates of heaven for you and pour out an abundantblessing for you.
11 Terrò indietro gli insetti divoratori perché non vi distruggano i frutti della terra e la vite non sia sterile nel campo, dice il Signore degli eserciti.	11 For your sakes, I shal forbid the locust to destroy the produce of your soil or prevent the vine frombearing fruit in your field, says Yahweh Sabaoth,
12 Felici vi diranno tutte le genti, perché sarete una terra di delizie, dice il Signore degli eserciti.	12 and all the nations wil cal you blessed, for you wil be a land of delights, says Yahweh Sabaoth.
13 Duri sono i vostri discorsi contro di me - dice il Signore - e voi andate dicendo: "Che abbiamo contro di te?".	13 'You have said harsh things about me, says Yahweh. And yet you say, "What have we said againstyou?"
14 Avete affermato: "È inutile servire Dio: che vantaggio abbiamo ricevuto dall'aver osservato i suoi comandamenti o dall'aver camminato in lutto davanti al Signore degli eserciti?	14 You have said, "It is useless to serve God; what is the good of keeping his commands or of walkingmournful y before Yahweh Sabaoth?
15 Dobbiamo invece proclamare beati i superbi che, pur facendo il male, si moltiplicano e, pur provocando Dio, restano impuniti".	15 In fact, we now cal the proud the happy ones; the evil-doers are the ones who prosper; they put Godto the test, yet come to no harm!" '
16 Allora parlarono tra di loro i timorati di Dio. Il Signore porse l'orecchio e li ascoltò: un libro di memorie fu scritto davanti a lui per coloro che lo temono e che onorano il suo nome.	16 Then those who feared Yahweh talked to one another about this, and Yahweh took note and listened;and a book of remembrance was written in his presence recording those who feared him and kept his name inmind.
17 Essi diverranno - dice il Signore degli eserciti - mia proprietà nel giorno che io preparo. Avrò compassione di loro come il padre ha compassione del figlio che lo serve.	17 'On the day when I act, says Yahweh Sabaoth, they will be my most prized possession, and I shalspare them in the way a man spares the son who serves him.
18 Voi allora vi convertirete e vedrete la differenza fra il giusto e l'empio, fra chi serve Dio e chi non lo serve.	18 Then once again you wil see the difference between the upright person and the wicked one, betweenthe one who serves God and the one who does not serve him.
19 Ecco infatti sta per venire il giorno rovente come un forno. Allora tutti i superbi e tutti coloro che commettono ingiustizia saranno come paglia; quel giorno venendo li incendierà - dice il Signore degli eserciti - in modo da non lasciar loro né radice né germoglio.	19 'For look, the Day is coming, glowing like a furnace. Al the proud and al the evil-doers wil be thestubble, and the Day, when it comes, wil set them ablaze, says Yahweh Sabaoth, leaving them neither root norbranch.
20 Per voi invece, cultori del mio nome, sorgerà il sole di giustizia con raggi benefici e voi uscirete saltellanti come vitelli di stalla.	20 But for you who fear my name, the Sun of justice wil rise with healing in his rays, and you wil comeout leaping like calves from the stal ,
21 Calpesterete gli empi ridotti in cenere sotto le piante dei vostri piedi nel giorno che io preparo, dice il Signore degli eserciti.	21 and trample on the wicked, who will be like ashes under the soles of your feet on the day when I act,says Yahweh Sabaoth.
22 Tenete a mente la legge del mio servo Mosè, al quale ordinai sull'Oreb, statuti e norme per tutto Israele.	22 'Remember the Law of my servant Moses to whom at Horeb I prescribed decrees and rulings for alIsrael.
23 Ecco, io invierò il profeta Elia prima che giunga il giorno grande e terribile del Signore,	23 'Look, I shal send you the prophet Elijah before the great and awesome Day of Yahweh comes.
24 perché converta il cuore dei padri verso i figli e il cuore dei figli verso i padri; così che io venendo non colpisca il paese con lo sterminio.	24 He will reconcile parents to their children and children to their parents, to forestal my putting thecountry under the curse of destruction.'
