| 1 Quella notte il re non poteva prendere sonno. Allora ordinò che gli si portasse il libro delle memorie, le cronache, e ne fu fatta la lettura alla presenza del re. | 1 On that night the king could not sleep; and he gave orders to bring the book of memorable deeds, the chronicles, and they were read before the king. |
| 2 Vi si trovò scritto che Mardocheo aveva denunciato Bigtàn e Tères, i due eunuchi del re tra i custodi della soglia, i quali avevano cercato di porre le mani sulla persona del re Assuero. | 2 And it was found written how Mordecai had told about Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king's eunuchs, who guarded the threshold, and who had sought to lay hands upon King Ahasuerus. |

| 4 Il re disse: "Chi c'è nell'atrio?". Appunto Amàn era venuto nell'atrio esterno della reggia per dire al re di impiccare Mardocheo al palo che egli aveva preparato per lui. | 4 And the king said, "Who is in the court?" Now Haman had just entered the outer court of the king's palace to speak to the king about having Mordecai hanged on the gallows that he had prepared for him. |
| 5 I giovani servi del re gli risposero: "Ecco c'è Amàn nell'atrio". Il re disse: "Entri!". | 5 So the king's servants told him, "Haman is there, standing in the court." And the king said, "Let him come in." |
| 6 Amàn entrò e il re gli disse: "Che si deve fare a un uomo che il re voglia onorare?". Amàn pensò: "Chi mai vorrebbe il re onorare, se non me?". | 6 So Haman came in, and the king said to him, "What shall be done to the man whom the king delights to honor?" And Haman said to himself, "Whom would the king delight to honor more than me?" |
| 7 Amàn rispose al re: "Per l'uomo che il re vuole onorare, | 7 and Haman said to the king, "For the man whom the king delights to honor, |
| 8 si prenda la veste reale che suole indossare il re e il cavallo che suole cavalcare il re e sulla sua testa sia posta una corona reale; | 8 let royal robes be brought, which the king has worn, and the horse which the king has ridden, and on whose head a royal crown is set; |
| 9 si consegni la veste e il cavallo a uno dei principi più nobili del re; si rivesta di quella veste l'uomo che il re vuole onorare, gli si faccia percorrere a cavallo le vie della città e si gridi davanti a lui: Ciò avviene all'uomo che il re vuole onorare". | 9 and let the robes and the horse be handed over to one of the king's most noble princes; let him array the man whom the king delights to honor, and let him conduct the man on horseback through the open square of the city, proclaiming before him: 'Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delights to honor.'" |
| 10 Allora il re disse ad Amàn: "Presto, prendi la veste e il cavallo, come hai detto, e fa' così a Mardocheo il Giudeo che si trova alla porta del re; non tralasciar nulla di quello che hai detto". | 10 Then the king said to Haman, "Make haste, take the robes and the horse, as you have said, and do so to Mordecai the Jew who sits at the king's gate. Leave out nothing that you have mentioned." |
| 11 Amàn prese la veste e il cavallo, rivestì della veste Mardocheo, gli fece percorrere a cavallo le vie della città e gridava davanti a lui: "Ciò avviene all'uomo che il re vuole onorare". | 11 So Haman took the robes and the horse, and he arrayed Mordecai and made him ride through the open square of the city, proclaiming, "Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delights to honor." |
| 12 Poi Mardocheo tornò alla porta del re, ma Amàn andò subito a casa, tutto aggrondato e con il capo velato. | 12 Then Mordecai returned to the king's gate. But Haman hurried to his house, mourning and with his head covered. |
13 Amàn raccontò a sua moglie Zeres e a tutti i suoi amici quanto gli era accaduto. I suoi consiglieri e sua moglie Zeres gli dissero: "Se Mardocheo, davanti al quale tu hai cominciato a decadere, è della stirpe dei Giudei, tu non potrai nulla contro di lui, anzi soccomberai del tutto davanti a lui".
| 13 And Haman told his wife Zeresh and all his friends everything that had befallen him. Then his wise men and his wife Zeresh said to him, "If Mordecai, before whom you have begun to fall, is of the Jewish people, you will not prevail against him but will surely fall before him." |
| 14 Essi stavano ancora parlando con lui, quando giunsero gli eunuchi del re, i quali si affrettarono a condurre Amàn al banchetto che Ester aveva preparato. | 14 While they were yet talking with him, the king's eunuchs arrived and brought Haman in haste to the banquet that Esther had prepared. |
