1 Nell'anno diciassette di Pekach figlio di Romelia, divenne re Acaz figlio di Iotam, re di Giuda.	1 In the seventeenth year of Pekah son of Remaliah, Ahaz son of Jotham became king of Judah.
2 Quando divenne re, aveva vent'anni; regnò sedici anni in Gerusalemme. Non fece ciò che è retto agli occhi del Signore suo Dio, come Davide suo antenato.	2 Ahaz was twenty years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for sixteen years in Jerusalem.He did not do what Yahweh his God regards as right, as his ancestor David had done.
3 Camminò sulla strada dei re di Israele; fece perfino passare per il fuoco suo figlio, secondo gli abomini dei popoli che il Signore aveva scacciati di fronte agli Israeliti.	3 He followed the example of the kings of Israel, even causing his son to pass through the fire ofsacrifice, also copying the disgusting practices of the nations whom Yahweh had dispossessed for the Israelites.
4 Sacrificava e bruciava incenso sulle alture, sui colli e sotto ogni albero verde.	4 He offered sacrifices and incense on the high places, on the hil s and under every luxuriant tree.
5 In quel tempo marciarono contro Gerusalemme Rezin re di Aram, e Pekach figlio di Romelia, re di Israele; l'assediarono, ma non riuscirono a espugnarla.	5 Then it was that Razon king of Aram and Pekah son of Remaliah, king of Israel, launched theircampaign against Jerusalem. They besieged it but could not reduce it.
6 Ma il re di Edom approfittò di quella occasione per riconquistare Elat e unirla al suo regno; ne scacciò i Giudei e tornarono ad abitarvi gli Idumei fino ad oggi.	6 (At that time, the king of Edom recovered Elath for Edom; he drove the Judaeans out of Elath, and theEdomites occupied it and have been there ever since.)
7 Acaz mandò messaggeri a Tiglat-Pilèzer re di Assiria, per dirgli: "Io sono tuo servo e tuo figlio; vieni, liberami dalla mano del re di Aram e dalla mano del re di Israele, che sono insorti contro di me".	7 Ahaz then sent messengers to Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria to say, 'I am your servant and your son.Come and rescue me from the king of Aram and the king of Israel who are making war on me.'
8 Acaz, preso l'argento e l'oro che si trovava nel tempio e nei tesori della reggia, lo mandò in dono al re di Assiria.	8 And Ahaz took what silver and gold was to be found in the Temple of Yahweh and in the palacetreasury, and sent this as a present to the king of Assyria.
9 Il re di Assur lo ascoltò e assalì Damasco e la prese, ne deportò la popolazione a Kir e uccise Rezin.	9 The king of Assyria granted his request and, marching on Damascus, captured it; he deported itspopulation to Kir and put Razon to death.

King Ahaz then sent a picture and model of the altar, with details of its construction, to Uriahthe priest.

12 Tornato da Damasco, il re vide l'altare, vi si avvicinò, vi salì,	12 When the king arrived from Damascus, he inspected the altar, he approached it and ascended it.
13 vi bruciò l'olocausto e l'offerta, vi versò la libazione e vi sparse il sangue dei sacrifici di comunione collocati sull'altare.	13 And on the altar he made his burnt offering and his oblation; he poured out his libation and sprinkledthe blood of his communion sacrifices.
14 Separò l'altare di bronzo, che era di fronte al Signore, dalla fronte del tempio, ossia dal punto fra l'altare e il tempio, e lo pose al fianco del nuovo altare verso settentrione.	14 The altar which used to stand before Yahweh he removed from the front of the Temple, where it hadstood between the new altar and the Temple of Yahweh, and placed it at the north side of the new altar.
15 Il re Acaz ordinò al sacerdote Uria: "Sull'altare grande brucerai l'olocausto del mattino, l'offerta della sera, l'olocausto del re e la sua offerta, l'olocausto di tutto il popolo del paese, la sua offerta e le sue libazioni, vi verserai sopra tutto il sangue dell'olocausto e tutto il sangue dei sacrifici di comunione; circa l'altare di bronzo io deciderò".	15 King Ahaz gave this order to Uriah the priest, 'In future you wil present the morning burnt offering, theevening oblation, the king's burnt offering and oblation, the burnt offering, the oblation and the libations of al thepeople of the country on the large altar; on it you will pour out al the blood of the burnt offerings and sacrifices.As regards the bronze altar, I shal see to that.'
16 Il sacerdote Uria eseguì a puntino l'ordine di Acaz.	16 Uriah the priest did everything that King Ahaz had ordered.
17 Il re Acaz smontò le basi, da cui rimosse le doghe e tolse i bacini. Fece scendere il grande bacino dai buoi di bronzo che lo sostenevano e lo collocò sul pavimento di pietre.	17 King Ahaz broke up the wheeled stands; removed the crosspieces and the basins from them, andtook the bronze Sea off the oxen supporting it, and rested it on the stone pavement.
18 In considerazione del re d'Assiria egli eliminò anche il portico del sabato, che era stato costruito nel tempio, e l'ingresso esterno del re.	18 And from the Temple of Yahweh, in deference to the king of Assyria, he removed the dais for thethrone which had been built inside, and the royal entrance on the outside.

20 Acaz si addormentò con i suoi padri; fu sepolto nella città di Davide e al suo posto divenne re suo figlio Ezechia.	20 Then Ahaz fel asleep with his ancestors and was buried in the City of David; his son Hezekiahsucceeded him.
