Troisième épître de Jean 1

JERUSALEM	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 Moi, l'Ancien, au très cher Gaïus, que j'aime en vérité.	1 The ancient to the dearly beloved Gaius, whom I love in truth.
2 Très cher, je souhaite que tu te portes bien sous tous les rapports et que ton corps soit en aussi bonnesanté que ton âme.	2 Dearly beloved, concerning all things I make it my prayer that thou mayest proceed prosperously, and fare well as thy soul doth prosperously.
3 Je me suis beaucoup réjoui des frères qui sont venus et qui ont rendu témoignage à ta vérité, je veuxdire à la façon dont tu vis dans la vérité.	3 I was exceedingly glad when the brethren came and gave testimony to the truth in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.
4 Apprendre que mes enfants vivent dans la vérité, rien ne m'est un plus grand sujet de joie.	4 I have no greater grace than this, to hear that my children walk in truth.
5 Très cher, tu agis fidèlement en te dépensant pour les frères, bien que ce soient des étrangers.	5 Dearly beloved, thou dost faithfully whatever thou dost for the brethren, and that for strangers,
6 Ils ont rendu témoignage à ta charité, devant l'Eglise. Tu feras une bonne action en pourvoyant à leurvoyage, d'une manière digne de Dieu.	6 Who have given testimony to thy charity in the sight of the church: whom thou shalt do well to bring forward on their way in a manner worthy of God.
7 C'est pour le Nom qu'ils se sont mis en route, sans rien recevoir des païens.	7 Because, for his name they went out, taking nothing of the Gentiles.
8 Nous devons accueillir de tels hommes, afin de collaborer à leurs travaux pour la Vérité.	8 We therefore ought to receive such, that we may be fellow helpers of the truth.
9 J'ai écrit un mot à l'Eglise. Mais Diotréphès, qui est avide d'y occuper la première place, ne nous reçoitpas.	9 I had written perhaps to the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the pre-eminence among them, doth not receive us.
10 C'est pourquoi je ne manquerai pas, si je viens, de rappeler sa conduite. Il se répand en mauvais proposcontre nous. Non satisfait de cela, il refuse lui-même de recevoir les frères, et ceux qui voudraient les recevoir, illes en empêche et les expulse de l'Eglise.	10 For this cause, if I come, I will advertise his works which he doth, with malicious words prating against us. And as if these things were not enough for him, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and them that do receive them he forbiddeth, and casteth out of the church.
11 Très cher, imite non le mal mais le bien. Qui fait le bien est de Dieu. Qui fait le mal n'a pas vu Dieu.	11 Dearly beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doth good, is of God: he that doth evil, hath not seen God.
12 Quant à Démétrius, tout le monde lui rend témoignage, y compris la Vérité elle-même. Nous aussi,nous lui rendons témoignage, et tu sais que notre témoignage est vrai.	12 To Demetrius testimony is given by all, and by the truth itself, yea and we also give testimony: and thou knowest that our testimony is true.
13 J'aurais beaucoup de choses à te dire. Mais je ne veux pas le faire avec de l'encre et un calame.	13 I had many things to write unto thee: but I would not by ink and pen write to thee.
14 J'espère en effet te voir sous peu, et nous nous entretiendrons de vive voix.	14 But I hope speedily to see thee, and we will speak mouth to mouth. Peace be to thee. Our friends salute thee. Salute the friends by name.
15 Que la paix soit avec toi! Tes amis te saluent. Salue les nôtres, chacun par son nom.
