1 Oui, cherchez à imiter Dieu, comme des enfants bien-aimés,	1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;
2 et suivez la voie de l'amour, à l'exemple du Christ qui vous a aimés et s'est livré pour nous,s'offrant à Dieu en sacrifice d'agréable odeur.	2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.
3 Quant à la fornication, à l'impureté sous toutes ses formes, ou encore à la cupidité, que leurs nomsne soient même pas prononcés parmi vous: c'est ce qui sied à des saints.	3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;
4 De même pour les grossièretés, les inepties, les facéties: tout cela ne convient guère; faitesentendre plutôt des actions de grâces.	4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.
5 Car, sachez-le bien, ni le fornicateur, ni le débauché, ni le cupide - qui est un idolâtre - n'ont droità l'héritage dans le Royaume du Christ et de Dieu.	5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
6 Que nul ne vous abuse par de vaines raisons: ce sont bien de tels désordres qui attirent la colèrede Dieu sur ceux qui lui résistent.	6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
7 N'ayez donc rien de commun avec eux.	7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
8 Jadis vous étiez ténèbres, mais à présent vous êtes lumière dans le Seigneur; conduisez-vous enenfants de lumière;	8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:
9 car le fruit de la lumière consiste en toute bonté, justice et vérité.	9 (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)
10 Discernez ce qui plaît au Seigneur,	10 Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.
11 et ne prenez aucune part aux oeuvres stériles des ténèbres; dénoncez-les plutôt.	11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
12 Certes, ce que ces gens-là font en cachette, on a honte même de le dire;	12 For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.
13 mais quand tout cela est dénoncé, c'est dans la lumière qu'on le voit apparaître;	13 But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.
14 tout ce qui apparaît, en effet, est lumière. C'est pourquoi l'on dit: Eveille-toi, toi qui dors, lève-toi d'entre les morts, et sur toi luira le Christ.	14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.
15 Ainsi prenez bien garde à votre conduite; qu'elle soit celle non d'insensés mais de sages,	15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
16 qui tirent bon parti de la période présente; car nos temps sont mauvais;	16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
17 ne vous montrez donc pas inconsidérés, mais sachez voir quelle est la volonté du Seigneur.	17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
18 Ne vous enivrez pas de vin: on n'y trouve que libertinage; mais cherchez dans l'Esprit votreplénitude.	18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
19 Récitez entre vous desEphésiens Psaumes, des hymnes et des cantiques inspirés; chantez et célébrez le Seigneur de tout votre coeur.	19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
20 En tout temps et à tout propos, rendez grâces à Dieu le Père, au nom de notre Seigneur JésusChrist.	20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
21 Soyez soumis les uns aux autres dans la crainte du Christ.	21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.
22 Que les femmes le soient à leurs maris comme au Seigneur:	22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
23 en effet, le mari est chef de sa femme, comme le Christ est chef de l'Eglise, lui le sauveur duCorps;	23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
24 or l'Eglise se soumet au Christ; les femmes doivent donc, et de la même manière, se soumettreen tout à leurs maris.	24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
25 Maris, aimez vos femmes comme le Christ a aimé l'Eglise: il s'est livré pour elle,	25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
26 afin de la sanctifier en la purifiant par le bain d'eau qu'une parole accompagne;	26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
27 car il voulait se la présenter à lui-même toute resplendissante, sans tache ni ride ni rien de tel,mais sainte et immaculée.	27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
28 De la même façon les maris doivent aimer leurs femmes comme leurs propres corps. Aimer safemme, c'est s'aimer soi-même.	28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
29 Car nul n'a jamais haï sa propre chair; on la nourrit au contraire et on en prend bien soin. C'estjustement ce que le Christ fait pour l'Eglise:	29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:
30 ne sommes-nous pas les membres de son Corps?	30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
31 Voici donc que l'homme quittera son père et sa mère pour s'attacher à sa femme, et les deux neferont qu'une seule chair:	31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
32 ce mystère est de grande portée; je veux dire qu'il s'applique au Christ et à l'Eglise.	32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
33 Bref, en ce qui vous concerne, que chacun aime sa femme comme soi-même, et que la femmerévère son mari.	33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.
