| 1 Et il leur disait une parabole sur ce qu'il leur fallait prier sans cesse et ne pas se décourager. | 1 And he told them a parable, to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart. |
| 2 "Il y avait dans une ville un juge qui ne craignait pas Dieu et n'avait de considération pour personne. | 2 He said, "In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor regarded man; |
| 3 Il y avait aussi dans cette ville une veuve qui venait le trouver, en disant: Rends-moi justice contremon adversaire! | 3 and there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, 'Vindicate me against my adversary.' |
| 4 Il s'y refusa longtemps. Après quoi il se dit: J'ai beau ne pas craindre Dieu et n'avoir de considérationpour personne, | 4 For a while he refused; but afterward he said to himself, 'Though I neither fear God nor regard man, |
| 5 néanmoins, comme cette veuve m'importune, je vais lui rendre justice, pour qu'elle ne vienne pas sansfin me rompre la tête." | 5 yet because this widow bothers me, I will vindicate her, or she will wear me out by her continual coming.'" |
| 6 Et le Seigneur dit: "Ecoutez ce que dit ce juge inique. | 6 And the Lord said, "Hear what the unrighteous judge says. |
| 7 Et Dieu ne ferait pas justice à ses élus qui crient vers lui jour et nuit, tandis qu'il patiente à leur sujet! | 7 And will not God vindicate his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them? |
| 8 Je vous dis qu'il leur fera prompte justice. Mais le Fils de l'homme, quand il viendra, trouvera-t-il la foisur la terre?" | 8 I tell you, he will vindicate them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of man comes, will he find faith on earth?" |
| 9 Il dit encore, à l'adresse de certains qui se flattaient d'être des justes et n'avaient que mépris pour lesautres, la parabole que voici: | 9 He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and despised others: |
| 10 "Deux hommes montèrent au Temple pour prier; l'un était Pharisien et l'autre publicain. | 10 "Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. |
| 11 Le Pharisien, debout, priait ainsi en lui-même: Mon Dieu, je te rends grâces de ce que je ne suis pascomme le reste des hommes, qui sont rapaces, injustes, adultères, ou bien encore comme ce publicain; | 11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, 'God, I thank thee that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. |
| 12 je jeûne deux fois la semaine, je donne la dîme de tout ce que j'acquiers. | 12 I fast twice a week, I give tithes of all that I get.' |
| 13 Le publicain, se tenant à distance, n'osait même pas lever les yeux au ciel, mais il se frappait lapoitrine, en disant: Mon Dieu, aie pitié du pécheur que je suis! | 13 But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me a sinner!' |
| 14 Je vous le dis: ce dernier descendit chez lui justifié, l'autre non. Car tout homme qui s'élève seraabaissé, mais celui qui s'abaisse sera élevé." | 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for every one who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted." |
| 15 On lui présentait aussi les tout-petits pour qu'il les touchât; ce que voyant, les disciples lesrabrouaient. | 15 Now they were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them; and when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them. |
| 16 Mais Jésus appela à lui ces enfants, en disant: "Laissez les petits enfants venir à moi, ne les empêchezpas; car c'est à leurs pareils qu'appartient le Royaume de Dieu. | 16 But Jesus called them to him, saying, "Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of God. |
| 17 En vérité je vous le dis: quiconque n'accueille pas le Royaume de Dieu en petit enfant n'y entrerapas." | 17 Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it." |
| 18 Un notable l'interrogea en disant: "Bon maître, que me faut-il faire pour avoir en héritage la vieéternelle?" | 18 And a ruler asked him, "Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" |
| 19 Jésus lui dit: "Pourquoi m'appelles-tu bon? Nul n'est bon que Dieu seul. | 19 And Jesus said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone. |
| 20 Tu connais les commandements: Ne commets pas d'adultère, ne tue pas, ne vole pas, ne porte pas defaux témoignage; honore ton père et ta mère" -- | 20 You know the commandments: 'Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother.'" |
| 21 "Tout cela, dit-il, je l'ai observé dès ma jeunesse." | 21 And he said, "All these I have observed from my youth." |
| 22 Entendant cela, Jésus lui dit: "Une chose encore te fait défaut: Tout ce que tu as, vends-le etdistribue-le aux pauvres, et tu auras un trésor dans les cieux; puis viens, suis-moi." | 22 And when Jesus heard it, he said to him, "One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me." |
| 23 Mais lui, entendant cela, devint tout triste, car il était fort riche. | 23 But when he heard this he became sad, for he was very rich. |
| 24 En le voyant, Jésus dit: "Comme il est difficile à ceux qui ont des richesses de pénétrer dans leRoyaume de Dieu! | 24 Jesus looking at him said, "How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God! |
| 25 Oui, il est plus facile à un chameau de passer par un trou d'aiguille qu'à un riche d'entrer dans leRoyaume de Dieu!" | 25 For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." |
| 26 Ceux qui entendaient dirent: "Et qui peut être sauvé?" | 26 Those who heard it said, "Then who can be saved?" |
| 27 Il dit: "Ce qui est impossible pour les hommes est possible pour Dieu." | 27 But he said, "What is impossible with men is possible with God." |
| 28 Pierre dit alors: "Voici que nous, laissant nos biens, nous t'avons suivi!" | 28 And Peter said, "Lo, we have left our homes and followed you." |
| 29 Il leur dit: "En vérité, je vous le dis: nul n'aura laissé maison, femme, frères, parents ou enfants, àcause du Royaume de Dieu, | 29 And he said to them, "Truly, I say to you, there is no man who has left house or wife or brothers or parents or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, |
| 30 qui ne reçoive bien davantage en ce temps-ci, et dans le monde à venir la vie éternelle." | 30 who will not receive manifold more in this time, and in the age to come eternal life." |
| 31 Prenant avec lui les Douze, il leur dit: "Voici que nous montons à Jérusalem et que s'accomplira toutce qui a été écrit par les Prophètes pour le Fils de l'homme. | 31 And taking the twelve, he said to them, "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written of the Son of man by the prophets will be accomplished. |
| 32 Il sera en effet livré aux païens, bafoué, outragé, couvert de crachats; | 32 For he will be delivered to the Gentiles, and will be mocked and shamefully treated and spit upon; |
| 33 après l'avoir flagellé, ils le tueront et, le troisième jour, il ressuscitera." | 33 they will scourge him and kill him, and on the third day he will rise." |
| 34 Et eux ne saisirent rien de tout cela; cette parole leur demeurait cachée, et ils ne comprenaient pas cequ'il disait. | 34 But they understood none of these things; this saying was hid from them, and they did not grasp what was said. |
| 35 Or il advint, comme il approchait de Jéricho, qu'un aveugle était assis au bord du chemin et mendiait. | 35 As he drew near to Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging |
| 36 Entendant une foule marcher, il s'enquérait de ce que cela pouvait être. | 36 and hearing a multitude going by, he inquired what this meant. |
| 37 On lui annonça que c'était Jésus le Nazôréen qui passait. | 37 They told him, "Jesus of Nazareth is passing by." |
| 38 Alors il s'écria: "Jésus, Fils de David, aie pitié de moi!" | 38 And he cried, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!" |
| 39 Ceux qui marchaient en tête le rabrouaient pour le faire taire, mais lui criait de plus belle: "Fils deDavid, aie pitié de moi!" | 39 And those who were in front rebuked him, telling him to be silent; but he cried out all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me!" |
| 40 Jésus s'arrêta et ordonna de le lui amener. Quand il fut près, il lui demanda: | 40 And Jesus stopped, and commanded him to be brought to him; and when he came near, he asked him, |
| 41 "Que veux-tu que je fasse pour toi" - "Seigneur, dit-il, que je recouvre la vue!" | 41 "What do you want me to do for you?" He said, "Lord, let me receive my sight." |
| 42 Jésus lui dit: "Recouvre la vue; ta foi t'a sauvé." | 42 And Jesus said to him, "Receive your sight; your faith has made you well." |
| 43 Et à l'instant même il recouvra la vue, et il le suivait en glorifiant Dieu. Et tout le peuple, voyant cela,célébra les louanges de Dieu. | 43 And immediately he received his sight and followed him, glorifying God; and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God. |
