1 Yahvé parla à Moïse et à Eléazar, fils d'Aaron, le prêtre. Il dit:	1 the LORD said to Moses and Eleazar; son of Aaron the priest,
2 "Faites le recensement de toute la communauté des Israélites, par familles: tous ceux qui ontvingt ans et au-dessus, aptes à faire campagne en Israël."	2 "Take a census, by ancestral houses, throughout the community of the Israelites of all those of twenty years or more who are fit for military service in Israel."
3 Moïse et Eléazar le prêtre les recensèrent donc, dans les Steppes de Moab, près du Jourdain versJéricho.	3 So on the plains of Moab along the Jericho stretch of the Jordan, Moses and the priest Eleazar registered
4 (Comme Yahvé l'a ordonné à Moïse et aux Israélites à leur sortie du pays d'Egypte.) Hommes devingt ans et au-dessus:	4 those of twenty years or more, as the LORD had commanded Moses. The Israelites who came out of the land of Egypt were as follows:

8 Les fils de Pallu: Eliab.	8 From Pallu descended Eliab,
9 Les fils d'Eliab: Nemuel, Datân et Abiram. 10 La terre ouvrit sa bouche et les engloutit (ainsi que Coré, lorsque périt cette bande), lorsque lefeu consuma les 250 hommes. Ils furent un signe.	10 The earth opened its mouth and swallowed them as a warning (Korah too and the band that died when the fire consumed two hundred and fifty men.
11 Les fils de Coré ne périrent pas.	11 The descendents of Korah, however, did not die out).

28 Les fils de Joseph, par clans: Manassé et Ephraïm.	28 The sons of Joseph were Manasseh and Ephraim.

52 Yahvé parla à Moïse et dit:	52 The LORD said to Moses,
53 "C'est à ceux-ci que le pays sera distribué en héritage, suivant le nombre des inscrits.	53 "Among these groups the land shall be divided as their heritage in keeping with the number of individuals in each group.
54 A celui qui a un grand nombre, tu donneras un grand domaine, à celui qui a un petit nombre, unpetit domaine; à chacun son héritage, en proportion du nombre de ses recensés.	54 To a large group you shall assign a large heritage, to a small group a small heritage, each group receiving its heritage in proportion to the number of men registered in it.
55 Toutefois, c'est le sort qui fera le partage du pays. Selon le nombre des noms dans les tribuspatriarcales, on recevra son héritage;	55 But the land shall be divided by lot, as the heritage of the various ancestral tribes.
56 l'héritage de chaque tribu sera réparti par le sort en tenant compte du grand ou du petit nombre."	56 As the lot falls shall each group, large or small, be assigned its heritage."

Qehat engendra Amram.	58 These also were clans of Levi: the clan of the Libnites, the clan of the Hebronites, the clan of the Mahlites, the clan of the Mushites, the clan of the Korahites. Among the descendants of Kohath was Amram,
59 La femme d'Amram se nommait Yokébed, fille de Lévi, qui lui était née en Egypte. Elle donnaà Amram Aaron, Moïse et Miryam leur soeur.	59 whose wife was named Jochebed. She also was of the tribe of Levi, born to the tribe in Egypt. To Amram she bore Aaron and Moses and their sister Miriam.
60 Aaron engendra Nadab et Abihu, Eléazar et Itamar.	60 To Aaron were born Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.
61 Nadab et Abihu moururent lorsqu'ils portèrent devant Yahvé un feu irrégulier.	61 But Nadab and Abihu died when they offered profane fire before the LORD.
62 Il y eut en tout 23.000 mâles recensés, d'un mois et au-dessus. Car ils n'avaient pas été recensésavec les Israélites, n'ayant pas reçu d'héritage au milieu d'eux.	62 The total number of male Levites one month or more of age, who were registered, was twenty-three thousand. They were not registered with the other Israelites, however, for no heritage was given them among the Israelites.
63 Tels furent les hommes que recensèrent Moïse et Eléazar le prêtre, qui firent ce recensement desIsraélites dans les Steppes de Moab, près du Jourdain vers Jéricho.	63 These, then, were the men registered by Moses and the priest Eleazar in the census of the Israelites taken on the plains of Moab along the Jericho stretch of the Jordan.

65 car Yahvé le leur avait dit: ceux-ci mourraient dans le désert et il n'en resterait aucun, àl'exception de Caleb, fils de Yephunné, et de Josué, fils de Nûn.	65 For the LORD had told them that they would surely die in the desert, and not one of them was left except Caleb, son of Jephunneh, and Joshua, son of Nun.
