| 3 Tiens ta parole et agis loyalement (fidèlement) avec lui, et tu trouveras toujours ce qui t'est nécessaire. | 3 Reap thy word, and deal faithfully with him: and thou shalt always find that which is necessary for thee. |
| 4 Beaucoup regardent comme une trouvaille (chose trouvée) ce qu'ils ont emprunté, et causent de l'ennui à ceux qui les ont secourus. | 4 Many have looked upon a thing lent as a thing found, and have given trouble to them that helped them. |

| 7 S'il(s) peu(ven)t payer, il(s) s'en défendent(ra) ; il(s) rendent(ra) à peine la moitié de la dette, et il(s) regardent(ra) cela comme une trouvaille (chose trouvée). | 7 And if he be able to pay, he will stand off, he will scarce pay one half, and will count it as if he had found it: |
| 8 S'il(s) ne le peu(ven)t, il(s) frustrent(ra) le créancier de son argent et se font (fera) de lui gratuitement un ennemi. | 8 But if not, he will defraud him of his money, and he shall get him for an enemy without cause: |
| 9 Il(s) le payent (paiera) en injures et en malédictions, et il(s) lui rendent(ra) l'outrage pour la grâce et le bien qu'il leur (lui) a fait. | 9 And he will pay him with reproaches and curses, and instead of honour and good turn will repay him injuries. |
| 10 Beaucoup ne prêtent pas, non par dureté, mais parce qu'ils craignent d'être trompés gratuitement. | 10 Many have refused to lend, not out of wickedness, but they were afraid to be defrauded without cause. |
| 11 Néanmoins sois magnanime envers le misérable, et ne le fais pas languir pour son (ton) aumône. | 11 But yet towards the poor be thou more hearty, and delay not to shew him mercy. |
| 12 Assiste le pauvre à cause du commandement, et ne le renvoie pas les mains vides, à cause de sa misère. | 12 Help the poor because of the commandment: and send him not away empty handed because of his poverty. |
| 13 Perds ton argent pour ton frère et pour ton ami, et ne le cache pas sous une pierre, sans profit (pour être perdu). | 13 Lose thy money for thy brother and thy friend: and hide it not under a stone to be lost. |
| 14 Place ton trésor selon les préceptes du Très-Haut, et il te sera plus utile que l'or. | 14 Place thy treasure in the commandments of the most High, and it shall bring thee more profit than gold. |
| 15 Cache ton aumône dans le sein du pauvre, et elle priera pour toi, afin de te délivrer de tout mal. | 15 Shut up alms in the heart of the poor, and it shall obtain help for thee against all evil. |
| 16 , 17, 18. Mieux que le bouclier et la lance du héros, elle combattra contre ton ennemi. | 16 Better than the shield of the mighty, and better than the spear: |

| 18 Mieux que le bouclier et la lance du héros (puissant), elle combattra contre ton ennemi. | 18 A good man is surety for his neighbour: and he that hath lost shame, will leave him to himself. |
| 19 L'homme de bien se fait caution pour son prochain, mais celui qui a perdu toute honte l'abandonne à lui-même. | 19 Forget not the kindness of thy surety: for he hath given his life for thee. |
| 20 N'oublie pas la grâce que te fait celui qui se fait caution, car il a exposé sa vie (son âme) pour toi. | 20 The sinner and the unclean fleeth from his surety. |
| 21 Le pécheur et l'impur fuient celui qui a répondu pour eux (leur répondant). | 21 A sinner attributeth to himself the goods of his surety: and he that is of an unthankful mind will leave him that delivered him. |
| 22 Le pécheur s'attribue le bien de son répondant, et celui qui a le cœur ingrat (ingrat de cœur il) abandonne(ra) son libérateur. | 22 A man is surety for his neighbour: and when he hath lost all shame, he shall forsake him. |
| 23 Un homme répond pour son prochain et, celui-ci perdant toute honte, en sera abandonné (l'abandonnera). | 23 Evil suretyship hath undone many of good estate, and hath tossed them as a wave of the sea. |

| 27 Assiste ton prochain selon ton pouvoir ; mais prends garde de ne pas tomber toi-même. | 27 The chief thing for man's life is water and bread, and clothing, and a house to cover shame. |
| 28 Le principal pour (commencement de, note) la vie de l'homme, c'est l'eau, le pain, le vêtement et une maison qui couvre ce qui doit être caché. | 28 Better is the poor man's fare under a roof of boards, than sumptuous cheer abroad in another man's house. |
| 29 Mieux vaut la nourriture du pauvre sous un toit de planches, qu'un festin magnifique dans une maison étrangère, quand on n'a pas de domicile. | 29 Be contented with little instead of much, and thou shalt not hear the reproach of going abroad. |
| 30 Contente-toi de (très) peu au lieu de beaucoup, et tu ne t'entendras pas reprocher d'être un étranger. | 30 It is a miserable life to go as a guest from house to house: for where a man is a stranger, he shall not deal confidently, nor open his mouth. |
| 31 C'est une vie malheureuse (misérable) que de loger (comme un hôte) de maison en maison ; là où l'on est reçu comme hôte, on n'agit pas avec confiance, et l'on n'ouvre pas la bouche. | 31 He shall entertain and feed, and give drink to the unthankful, and moreover he shall hear bitter words. |
| 32 On reçoit l'hospitalité, on (Il y sera comme hôte, et il) donne(ra) à manger et à boire à des ingrats, et après cela on (il) entend(ra) des paroles amères : | 32 Go, stranger, and furnish the table, and give others to eat what thou hast in thy hand. |
| 33 Viens, hôte, prépare la table, et donne à manger aux autres avec ce que tu as. | 33 Give place to the honourable presence of my friends: for I want my house, my brother being to be lodged with me. |
| 34 Retire-toi à cause de l'honneur que je dois à mes amis ; j'ai besoin de ma maison pour y recevoir mon frère. | 34 These things are grievous to a man of understanding: the upbraiding of houseroom, and the reproaching of the lender. |
