| 1 Al anciano no le reprendas con dureza, sino exhórtale como a un padre; a los jóvenes, como a hermanos; | 1 Do not rebuke an older man but exhort him as you would a father; treat younger men like brothers, |

| 3 Honra a las viudas, a las que son verdaderamente viudas. | 3 Honor widows who are real widows. |
| 4 Si una viuda tiene hijos o nietos, que aprendan éstos primero a practicar los deberes de piedad para con los de su propia familia y a corresponder a sus progenitores, porque esto es agradable a Dios. | 4 If a widow has children or grandchildren, let them first learn their religious duty to their own family and make some return to their parents; for this is acceptable in the sight of God. |
| 5 Pero la que de verdad es viuda y ha quedado enteramente sola, tiene puesta su esperanza en el Señor y perservera en sus plegarias y oraciones noche y día. | 5 She who is a real widow, and is left all alone, has set her hope on God and continues in supplications and prayers night and day; |
| 6 La que, en cambio, está entregada a los placeres aunque viva, está muerta. | 6 whereas she who is self-indulgent is dead even while she lives. |
| 7 Todo esto incúlcalo también, para que sean irreprensibles. | 7 Command this, so that they may be without reproach. |
| 8 Si alguien no tiene cuidado de los suyos, principalmente de sus familiares, ha renegado de la fe y es peor que un infiel. | 8 If any one does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his own family, he has disowned the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. |
| 9 Que la viuda que sea inscrita en el catálogo de las viudas no tenga menos de sesenta años, haya estado casada una sola vez, | 9 Let a widow be enrolled if she is not less than sixty years of age, having been the wife of one husband; |
| 10 y tenga el testimonio de sus buenas obras: haber educado bien a los hijos, practicado la hospitalidad, lavado los pies de los santos, socorrido a los atribulados, y haberse ejercitado en toda clase de buenas obras. | 10 and she must be well attested for her good deeds, as one who has brought up children, shown hospitality, washed the feet of the saints, relieved the afflicted, and devoted herself to doing good in every way. |
| 11 Descarta, en cambio, a las viudas jóvenes, porque cuando les asaltan los placeres contrarios a Cristo, quieren casarse | 11 But refuse to enrol younger widows; for when they grow wanton against Christ they desire to marry, |
| 12 e incurren así en condenación por haber faltado a su compromiso anterior. | 12 and so they incur condemnation for having violated their first pledge. |
| 13 Y además, estando ociosas, aprenden a ir de casa en casa; y no sólo están ociosas, sino que se vuelven también charlatanas y entrometidas, hablando de lo que no deben. | 13 Besides that, they learn to be idlers, gadding about from house to house, and not only idlers but gossips and busybodies, saying what they should not. |
| 14 Quiero, pues, que las jóvenes se casen, que tengan hijos y que gobiernen la propia casa y no den al adversario ningún motivo de hablar mal; | 14 So I would have younger widows marry, bear children, rule their households, and give the enemy no occasion to revile us. |
| 15 pues ya algunas se han extraviado yendo en pos de Satanás. | 15 For some have already strayed after Satan. |
| 16 Si alguna creyente tiene viudas, atiéndalas ella misma y no las cargue a la Iglesia, a fin de que ésta pueda atender a las que sean verdaderamente viudas. | 16 If any believing woman has relatives who are widows, let her assist them; let the church not be burdened, so that it may assist those who are real widows. |
| 17 Los presbíteros que ejercen bien su cargo merecen doble remuneración, principalmente los que se afanan en la predicación y en la enseñanza. | 17 Let the elders who rule well be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in preaching and teaching; |
| 18 La Escritura, en efecto, dice: No pondrás bozal al buey que trilla, y también: El obrero tiene derecho a su salario. | 18 for the scripture says, "You shall not muzzle an ox when it is treading out the grain," and, "The laborer deserves his wages." |
| 19 No admitas ninguna acusación contra un presbítero si no viene con el testimonio de dos o tres. | 19 Never admit any charge against an elder except on the evidence of two or three witnesses. |
| 20 A los culpables, repréndeles delante de todos, para que los demás cobren temor. | 20 As for those who persist in sin, rebuke them in the presence of all, so that the rest may stand in fear. |
| 21 Yo te conjuro en presencia de Dios, de Cristo Jesús y de los ángeles escogidos, que observes estas recomendaciones sin dejarte llevar de prejuicios ni favoritismos. | 21 In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus and of the elect angels I charge you to keep these rules without favor, doing nothing from partiality. |
| 22 No te precipites en imponer a nadie las manos, no te hagas partícipe de los pecados ajenos. Consérvate puro. | 22 Do not be hasty in the laying on of hands, nor participate in another man's sins; keep yourself pure. |
| 23 No bebas ya agua sola. Toma un poco de vino a causa de tu estómago y de tus frecuentes indisposiciones. | 23 No longer drink only water, but use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and your frequent ailments. |
| 24 Los pecados de algunas personas son notorios aun antes de que sean investigados; en cambio los de otras, lo son solamente después. | 24 The sins of some men are conspicuous, pointing to judgment, but the sins of others appear later. |
| 25 Del mismo modo las obras buenas son manifiestas; y las que no lo son, no pueden quedar ocultas. | 25 So also good deeds are conspicuous; and even when they are not, they cannot remain hidden. |
