Ezequiel 20

BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 El año séptimo, el día diez del quinto mes, algunos de los ancianos de Israel vinieron a consultar a Yahveh y se sentaron ante mí.	1 In the seventh year, on the tenth day of the fifth month, some of the elders of Israel came to consultYahweh and were sitting with me,
2 Entonces me fue dirigida la palabra de Yahveh en estos términos:	2 when the word of Yahweh was addressed to me as fol ows,
3 Hijo de hombre, habla a los ancianos de Israel. Les dirás: Así dice el Señor Yahveh: ¿A consultarme venís? Por mi vida, que no me dejaré consultar por vosotros, oráculo del Señor Yahveh.	3 'Son of man, speak to the elders of Israel. Say, "The Lord Yahweh says this: Have you come toconsult me? As I live, I wil not be consulted by you -- declares the Lord Yahweh."
4 ¿Vas a juzgarlos? ¿Vas a juzgar, hijo de hombre? Hazles saber las abominaciones de sus padres.	4 'Are you ready to judge them? Are you ready to judge them, son of man? Confront them with theloathsome practices of their ancestors.
5 Les dirás: Así dice el Señor Yahveh: El día que yo elegí a Israel, alcé mi mano hacia la raza de la casa de Jacob, me manifesté a ellos en el país de Egipto, y levanté mi mano hacia ellos diciendo: Yo soy Yahveh, vuestro Dios.	5 Say, "The Lord Yahweh says this: On the day when I chose Israel, when I pledged my word to theHouse of Jacob, I made myself known to them in Egypt; I pledged my word to them and said: I am Yahweh yourGod.
6 Aquel día alcé mi mano hacia ellos jurando sacarlos del país de Egipto hacia una tierra que había explorado para ellos, que mana leche y miel, la más hermosa de todas las tierras.	6 That day I pledged them my word that I would bring them out of Egypt to a country which I hadreconnoitred for them, a country flowing with milk and honey, and the loveliest of them al .
7 Y les dije: Arrojad cada uno los montruos que seducen vuestros ojos, no os contaminéis con las basuras de Egipto; yo soy Yahveh, vuestro Dios.	7 And I said to them: Each of you must reject the horrors which attract you; do not pol ute yourselveswith the foul idols of Egypt; I am Yahweh your God.
8 Pero ellos se rebelaron contra mí y no quisieron escucharme. Ninguno arrojó los monstruos que seducían sus ojos; ninguno abandonó las basuras de Egipto. Pensé entonces, derramar mi furor sobre ellos y desahogar en ellos mi cólera, en medio del país de Egipto.	8 But they rebel ed against me and would not listen to me. Not one of them rejected the horrors whichattracted them; they did not give up the foul idols of Egypt. I then resolved to vent my fury on them, to sate myanger on them in Egypt.
9 Pero tuve consideración a mi nombre y procedí de modo que no fuese profanado a los ojos de las naciones entre las que ellos se encontraban, y a la vista de las cuales me había manifestado a ellos, sacándolos del país de Egipto.	9 But respect for my own name kept me from letting it be profaned in the eyes of the nations amongwhom they were living, and before whom I had made myself known to them and promised to bring them out ofEgypt.
10 Por eso, los saqué del país de Egipto y los conduje al desierto.	10 So I brought them out of Egypt and led them into the desert.
11 Les di mis perceptos y les di a conocer mis normas, por las que el hombre vive, si las pone en práctica.	11 I gave them my laws and taught them my judgements, in whose observance people find life.
12 Y les di además mis sábados como señal entre ellos y yo, para que supieran que yo soy Yahveh, que los santifico.	12 And I also gave them my Sabbaths as a sign between me and them, so that they might know that I,Yahweh, am the one who sanctifies them.
13 Pero la casa de Israel se rebeló contra mí en el desierto; no se condujeron según mis preceptos, rechazaron mis normas por las que vive el hombre, si las pone en práctica, y no hicieron más que profanar mis sábados. Entonces pensé en derramar mi furor sobre ellos en el desierto, para exterminarlos.	13 The House of Israel, however, rebel ed against me in the desert; they refused to keep my laws, theyscorned my judgements, in whose observance people find life, and they grossly profaned my Sabbaths. I thenresolved to vent my fury on them in the desert and destroy them.
14 Pero tuve consideración a mi nombre, y procedí de modo que no fuese profanado a los ojos de las naciones, a la vista de las cuales los había sacado.	14 But respect for my own name kept me from letting it be profaned in the eyes of the nations, beforewhom I had brought them out.
15 Y, una vez más alcé mi mano hacia ellos en el desierto, jurando que no les dejaría entrar en la tierra que les había dado, que mana leche y miel, la más hermosa de todas las tierras.	15 Even so, I pledged them my word in the desert that I would not lead them to the country which I hadgiven them, a country flowing with milk and honey, and the loveliest of them al ,
16 Pues habían despreciado mis normas, no se habían conducido según mis preceptos y habían profanado mis sábados; porque su corazón se iba tras sus basuras.	16 since they had scorned my judgements, had refused to keep my laws and had profaned mySabbaths, their hearts being attached to foul idols.
17 Pero tuve una mirada de piedad para no exterminarlos, y no acabé con ellos en el desierto.	17 In spite of this, I took pity on them; I refrained from destroying them and did not make an end of themin the desert.
18 Y dije a sus hijos en el desierto: No sigáis las reglas de vuestros padres, no imitéis sus normas, no os contaminéis con sus basuras.	18 "I said to their children in the desert: Do not follow the laws of your ancestors, do not practise theirjudgements, do not defile yourselves with their foul idols.
19 Yo soy Yahveh, vuestro Dios. Seguid mis preceptos, guardad mis normas y ponedlas en práctica.	19 I am Yahweh your God. Keep my laws, respect my judgements and practise them.
20 Santificad mis sábados; que sean una señal entre yo y vosotros, para que se sepa que yo soy Yahveh, vuestro Dios.	20 Keep my Sabbaths holy; let them be a sign between me and you, so that people may know that I amYahweh your God.
21 Pero los hijos se rebelaron contra mí, no se condujeron según mis preceptos, no guardaron ni pusieron en práctica mis normas, aquéllas por las que vive el hombre, si las pone en práctica, y profanaron mis sábados. Entonces pensé en derramar mi furor sobre ellos y desahogar en ellos mi cólera, en el desierto.	21 Their children, however, rebel ed against me; they refused to keep my laws, they did not respect orpractise my judgements, which must be practised by al who want to live; they profaned my Sabbaths. I thenresolved to vent my fury on them, to sate my anger on them in the desert.
22 Pero retiré mi mano y tuve consideración a mi nombre, procediendo de modo que no fuese profanado a los ojos de las naciones, a la vista de las cuales los había sacado.	22 But I restrained my hand; respect for my own name kept me from letting it be profaned in the eyes ofthe nations, before whom I had brought them out.
23 Pero una vez más alcé mi mano hacia ellos, en el desierto, jurando dispersarlos entre las naciones y esparcirlos por los países.	23 Once again, however, I pledged them my word that I would scatter them throughout the nations anddisperse them in foreign countries,
24 Porque no habían puesto en práctica mis normas, habían despreciado mis preceptos y profanado mis sábados, y sus ojos se habían ido tras las basuras de sus padres.	24 because they had not fol owed my judgements but had rejected my laws and profaned my Sabbaths,their eyes being fastened on the foul idols of their ancestors.
25 E incluso llegué a darles preceptos que no eran buenos y normas con las que no podrían vivir,	25 And for this reason I gave them laws that were not good and judgements by which they could neverlive;
26 y los contaminé con sus propias ofrendas, haciendo que pasaran por el fuego a todo primogénito, a fin de infundirles horror, para que supiesen que yo soy Yahveh.	26 and I pol uted them with their own offerings, making them sacrifice every first-born son in order to filthem with revulsion, so that they would know that I am Yahweh."
27 Por eso, hijo de hombre, habla a la casa de Israel. Les dirás: Así dice el Señor Yahveh: En esto todavía me ultrajaron vuestros padres siéndome infieles.	27 'For this reason, son of man, speak to the House of Israel. Say to them, "The Lord Yahweh says this:Here is another way by which your ancestors outraged me by their infidelity.
28 Yo les conduje a la tierra que, mano en alto, había jurado darles. Allí vieron toda clase de colinas elevadas, toda suerte de árboles frondosos, y en ellos ofrecieron sus sacrificios y presentaron sus ofrendas provocadoras; allí depositaron el calmante aroma y derramaron sus libaciones.	28 Once I had brought them into the country which I had pledged my word to give them, they then sawal sorts of high hil s, al kinds of leafy trees, and there they performed their sacrifices and made offerings thatprovoked my anger; there they set out their pleasing smel and poured their libations.
29 Y yo les dije: ¿Qué es el alto adonde vosotros vais?; y se le puso el nombre de Bamá, hasta el día de hoy.	29 I then said to them: What is this high place where you go? And they gave, and stil give it, the nameof Bamah."
30 Pues bien, di a la casa de Israel: Así dice el Señor Yahveh: Conque vosotros os contamináis conduciéndoos como vuestros padres, prostituyéndoos detrás de sus monstruos,	30 'So, say to the House of Israel, "The Lord Yahweh says this: If you are pol uting yourselves as yourancestors did by fornicating with their horrors-
31 presentando vuestras ofrendas, haciendo pasar a vuestros hijos por el fuego; os contamináis con todas vuestras basuras, hasta el día de hoy, ¿y yo voy a dejarme consultar por vosotros, casa de Israel? Por mi vida, oráculo del Señor Yahveh, que no me dejaré consultar por vosotros.	31 for by offering your gifts and by burning your children as sacrifices, you have been pol utingyourselves with al your foul idols to this very day -- shal I let myself be consulted by you, House of Israel? As Ilive -- declares Lord Yahweh -- I shal not let myself be consulted by you.
32 Y no se realizará jamás lo que se os pasa por la imaginación, cuando decís: «Seremos como las naciones, como las tribus de los otros países, adoradores del leño y de la piedra».	32 And what you sometimes imagine wil never be so, when you say: We shal be like the peoples, thetribes of foreign lands, worshipping wood and stone.
33 Por mi vida, oráculo del Señor Yahveh, que yo reinaré sobre vosotros, con mano fuerte y tenso brazo, con furor derramado.	33 As I live I swear it -- declares the Lord Yahweh -- I am the one who will reign over you, with a stronghand and outstretched arm, once my fury is sated.
34 Os haré salir de entre los pueblos y os reuniré de los países donde fuisteis dispersados, con mano fuerte y tenso brazo, con furor derramado;	34 With a strong hand and outstretched arm, once my fury is sated, I shall bring you back from thepeoples and gather you again from the countries throughout which you have been scattered.
35 os conduciré al desierto de los pueblos y allí os juzgaré cara a cara.	35 I shal lead you into the desert of the nations and there I shal judge you face to face.
36 Como juzgué a vuestros padres en el desierto de Egipto, así os juzgaré a vosotros, oráculo del Señor Yahveh.	36 As I judged your ancestors in the desert of Egypt, so wil I judge you -- declares the Lord Yahweh.
37 Os haré pasar bajo el cayado y os haré entrar por el aro de la alianza;	37 I shal make you pass under the crook, bring you to respect the covenant
38 separaré de vosotros a los rebeldes, a los que se han rebelado contra mí: les haré salir del país en que residen, pero no entrarán en la tierra de Israel, y sabréis que yo soy Yahveh.	38 and rid you of the rebels who have revolted against me; I shall bring them out of the country wherethey are staying, but they will not enter the country of Israel, and you wil know that I am Yahweh.
39 En cuanto a vosotros, casa de Israel, así dice el Señor Yahveh: Que vaya cada uno a servir a sus basuras; después, yo juro que me escucharéis y no profanaréis más mi santo nombre con vuestras ofrendas y vuestras basuras.	39 House of Israel, Lord Yahweh says this: Go on, all of you, worship your foul idols, but later we shal see if you don't listen to me! Then you wil stop profaning my holy name with your offerings and your foul idols.
40 Porque será en mi santa montaña, en la alta montaña de Israel - oráculo del Señor Yahveh - donde me servirá toda la casa de Israel, toda ella en esta tierra. Allí los acogeré amorosamente y allí solicitaré vuestras ofrendas y las primicias de vuestros dones, con todas vuestras cosas santas.	40 For on my holy mountain, on the high mountain of Israel -- declares the Lord Yahweh -- is where thewhole House of Israel, everyone in the country, wil worship me. There I shal accept and there expect yourpresents, your choicest offering and al your consecrated gifts.
41 Como calmante aroma yo os acogeré amorosamente, cuando os haya hecho salir de entre los pueblos, y os reúna de en medio de los países en los que habéis sido dispersados; y por vosotros me mostraré santo a los ojos de las naciones.	41 I shal welcome you like a pleasing smell when I bring you back from the peoples and gather youfrom the countries throughout which you have been scattered, and through you I shal display my holiness for althe nations to see;
42 Sabréis que yo soy Yahveh, cuando os conduzca al suelo de Israel, a la tierra que, mano en alto, juré dar a vuestros padres.	42 and you wil know that I am Yahweh, when I bring you back to the soil of Israel, to the country which Ipledged my word to give to your ancestors.
43 Allí os acordaréis de vuestra conducta y de todas las acciones con las que os habéis contaminado, y cobraréis asco de vosotros mismos por todas las maldades que habéis cometido.	43 There you wil remember your past behaviour and al the actions by which you have defiledyourselves, and you wil loathe yourselves for al the wrongs which you have committed.
44 Sabréis que yo soy Yahveh, cuando actúe con vosotros por consideración a mi nombre, y no con arreglo a vuestra mala conducta y a vuestras corrompidas acciones, casa de Israel, oráculo del Señor Yahveh.	44 And you wil know that I am Yahweh, when I treat you as respect for my own name requires, and notas your wicked behaviour and corrupt actions deserve, House of Israel -- declares the Lord Yahweh." '
