Sabiduría 5

BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Estará entonces el justo en pie con gran confianza en presencia de los que le afligieron y despreciaron sus trabajos.	1 Then the upright will stand up boldly to face those who had oppressed him and had thought so little of his sufferings.
2 Al verle, quedarán estremecidos de terrible espanto, estupefactos por lo inesperado de su salvación.	2 And, seeing him, they wil be seized with terrible fear, amazed that he should have been sounexpectedly saved.
3 Se dirán mudando de parecer, gimiendo en la angustia de su espíritu:	3 Stricken with remorse, they wil say to one another with groans and labouring breath,
4 «Este es aquel a quien hicimos entonces objeto de nuestras burlas, a quien dirigíamos, insensatos, nuestros insultos. Locura nos pareció su vida y su muerte, una ignominia.	4 'This is the one whom we used to mock, making him the butt of our insults, fools that we were! His lifewe regarded as madness, his ending as without honour.
5 ¿Cómo, pues, ha sido contado entre los hijos de Dios y tiene su herencia entre los santos?	5 How has he come to be counted as one of the children of God and to have his lot among the holy ones?
6 Luego vagamos fuera del camino de la verdad; la luz de la justicia no nos alumbró, no salió el sol para nosotros.	6 Clearly we have strayed from the way of truth; the light of justice has not shone for us, the sun has notrisen for us.
7 Nos hartamos de andar por sendas de iniquidad y perdición, atravesamos desiertos intransitables; pero el camino del Señor, no lo conocimos.	7 We have left no path of lawlessness or ruin unexplored, we have crossed deserts where there was notrack, but the way of the Lord is one we have never known.
8 ¿De qué nos sirvió nuestro orgullo? ¿De qué la riqueza y la jactancia?	8 What good has arrogance been to us? What has been the purpose of our riches and boastfulness?
9 Todo aquello pasó como una sombra, como noticia que va corriendo;	9 Al those things have passed like a shadow, passed like a fleeting rumour.
10 como nave que atraviesa las aguas agitadas, y no es posible descubrir la huella de su paso ni el rastro de su quilla en las olas;	10 Like a ship that cuts through heaving waves -- leaving no trace to show where it has passed, no wakefrom its keel in the waves.
11 como pájaro que volando atraviesa el aire, y de su vuelo no se encuentra vestigio alguno; con el golpe de sus remos azota el aire ligero, lo corta con agudo silbido, se abre camino batiendo las alas y después, no se descubre señal de su paso;	11 Or like a bird flying through the air -- leaving no proof of its passing; it whips the light air with the strokeof its pinions, tears it apart in its whirring rush, drives its way onward with sweeping wing, and afterwards no signis seen of its passage.
12 como flecha disparada al blanco; el aire hendido refluye al instante sobre sí y no sabe el camino que la flecha siguió.	12 Or like an arrow shot at a mark, the pierced air closing so quickly on itself, there is no knowing whichway the arrow has passed.
13 Lo mismo nosotros: apenas nacidos, dejamos de existir, y no podemos mostrar vestigio alguno de virtud; nos gastamos en nuestra maldad».	13 So with us: scarcely born, we disappear; of virtue not a trace have we to show, we have spentourselves in our own wickedness!'
14 En efecto, la esperanza del impío es como brizna arrebatada por el viento, como espuma ligera acosada por el huracán, se desvanece como el humo con el viento; pasa como el recuerdo del huésped de un día.	14 For the hope of the godless is like chaff carried on the wind, like fine spray driven by the storm; itdisperses like smoke before the wind, goes away like the memory of a one-day guest.
15 Los justos, en cambio, viven eternamente; en el Señor está su recompensa, y su cuidado a cargo del Altísimo.	15 But the upright live for ever, their recompense is with the Lord, and the Most High takes care of them.
16 Recibirán por eso de mano del Señor la corona real del honor y la diadema de la hermosura; pues con su diestra los protegerá y los escudará con su brazo.	16 So they wil receive the glorious crown and the diadem of beauty from the Lord's hand; for he wilshelter them with his right hand and with his arm he wil shield them.
17 Tomará su celo como armadura, y armará a la creación para rechazar a sus enemigos;	17 For armour he will take his jealous love, he wil arm creation to punish his enemies;
18 por coraza vestirá la justicia, se pondrá por casco un juicio sincero,	18 he wil put on justice as a breastplate, and for helmet wear his forthright judgement;
19 tomará por escudo su santidad invencible,	19 he wil take up invincible holiness for shield,
20 afilará como espada su cólera inexorable, y el universo saldrá con él a pelear contra los insensatos.	20 of his pitiless wrath he will forge a sword, and the universe wil march with him to fight the reckless.
21 Partirán certeros los tiros de los rayos, de las nubes, como de arco bien tendido, saltarán al blanco,	21 Bolts truly aimed, the shafts of lightning wil leap, and from the clouds, as from a ful -drawn bow, fly totheir mark;
22 de una ballesta se disparará furioso granizo; las olas del mar se encresparán contra ellos, los ríos los anegarán sin piedad;	22 and the catapult wil hurl hailstones charged with fury. The waters of the sea wil rage against them,the rivers engulf them without pity,
23 se levantará contra ellos un viento poderoso y como huracán los aventará. Así la iniquidad asolará la tierra entera y la maldad derribará los tronos de los que están en el poder.	23 a mighty gale wil rise against them and winnow them like a hurricane. Thus wickedness wil lay thewhole earth waste and evil-doing bring down the thrones of the mighty.
