1 Alors ces trois hommes (Élifaz, Bildad et Sofar) cessèrent de répondre à Job, car il persistait à se considérer comme innocent.	1 Then the three men ceased to answer Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.
2 Mais Élihou, le fils de Barakel, se mit en colère. Cet homme était de la tribu de Bouz et de la famille de Ram. Il se mit en colère contre Job qui prétendait avoir raison contre Dieu,	2 But the anger of Elihu, son of Barachel the Buzite, of the family of Ram, was kindled. He was angry with Job for considering himself rather than God to be in the right.
3 mais aussi contre ses trois amis, parce qu’ils n’avaient pas trouvé de réponse, et qu’ils avaient ainsi donné tort à Dieu.	3 He was angry also with the three friends because they had not found a good answer and had not condemned Job.
4 Élihou s’était tu pendant qu’ils parlaient avec Job, car ils étaient plus âgés que lui.	4 But since these men were older than he, Elihu bided his time before addressing Job.
5 Mais quand Élihou vit qu’aucun des trois n’avait plus rien à répondre, il se mit en colère.	5 When, however, Elihu saw that there was no reply in the mouths of the three men, his wrath was inflamed.
6 Élihou, fils de Barakel, de la tribu de Bouz, prit donc la parole: Je suis jeune encore et vous êtes âgés; c’est pourquoi j’étais intimidé, craintif, et je n’osais communiquer mon savoir.	6 So Elihu, son of Barachel the Buzite, spoke out and said: I am young and you are very old; therefore I held back and was afraid to declare to you my knowledge.
7 Je me disais: “L’âge parlera, beaucoup d’années sont une garantie de sagesse!”	7 Days should speak, I thought, and many years teach wisdom!
8 Mais non, elle est dans l’homme un fruit de l’esprit, un souffle du Puissant nous donne de comprendre.	8 But it is a spirit in man, the breath of the Almighty, that gives him understanding.
9 Les plus anciens ne sont pas les plus sages, l’âge ne suffit pas pour discerner le vrai.	9 It is not those of many days who are wise, nor the aged who understand the right.
10 Je vous invite donc à m’écouter, à mon tour je dirai ce que je sais.	10 Therefore I say, hearken to me; let me too set forth my knowledge!
11 J’ai attendu tandis que vous parliez, suivant vos raisons tandis que vous cherchiez vos mots.	11 Behold, I have waited for your discourses, and have given ear to your arguments.
12 Je vous écoutais attentivement, mais aucun de vous n’a réfuté Job, personne n’a répondu à ses déclarations.	12 Yes, I followed you attentively as you searched out what to say; And behold, there is none who has convicted Job, not one of you who could refute his statements.
13 Cessez donc de dire que vous avez la sagesse, que c’est doctrine de Dieu et non des hommes.”	13 Yet do not say, "We have met wisdom. God may vanquish him but not man!"
14 Je ne prends pas à mon compte vos raisons, je ne lui répondrai pas avec vos arguments.	14 For had he addressed his words to me, I should not then have answered him as you have done.
15 Consternés, vous n’aviez plus rien à dire, les mots vous manquaient.	15 They are dismayed, they make no more reply; words fail them.
16 J’attendais! Mais si vous ne parlez plus, si vous restez là sans réponse,	16 Must I wait? Now that they speak no more, and have ceased to make reply,
17 à moi de répliquer, à mon tour de montrer mon savoir!	17 I too will speak my part; I also will show my knowledge!
18 Ce ne sont pas les mots qui me manquent, une conviction intime me presse:	18 For I am full of matters to utter; the spirit within me compels me.
19 c’est en moi comme un vin qui fermente et faute d’issues fait éclater les outres neuves.	19 Like a new wineskin with wine under pressure, my bosom is ready to burst.
20 Parler me soulagera, j’ai besoin de parler et de répondre.	20 Let me speak and obtain relief; let me open my lips, and make reply.
21 Je serai pourtant impartial, sans flatter qui que ce soit,	21 I would not be partial to anyone, nor give flattering titles to any.
22 car si je prétendais flatter, bien vite Celui qui m’a fait m’enlèverait.	22 For I know nought of flattery; if I did, my Maker would soon take me away.
