1 After this, I saw another angel come down from heaven, with great authority given to him; the earthshone with his glory.	1 E dopo questo vidi scendere dal cielo un altro Angelo con gran potenza, e la terra fu illuminata dal suo splendore.
2 At the top of his voice he shouted, 'Babylon has fal en, Babylon the Great has fallen, and has becomethe haunt of devils and a lodging for every foul spirit and dirty, loathsome bird.	2 Egli gridò con voce poderosa: E' caduta, è caduta la gran Babilonia, ed è diventata la dimora dei demoni, il carcere d'ogni spirito immondo, il ricetto d'ogni uccellaccio immondo e odioso,
3 Al the nations have drunk deep of the wine of her prostitution; every king on the earth has prostitutedhimself with her, and every merchant grown rich through her debauchery.'	3 perché tutte le genti han bevuto il vino dell'ira della sua fornicazione, e i re della terra con lei fornicarono, e i mercanti del mondo si sono arricchiti per gli eccessi del suo lusso.
4 Another voice spoke from heaven; I heard it say, 'Come out, my people, away from her, so that you donot share in her crimes and have the same plagues to bear.	4 E udii un'altra voce dire dal cielo: Uscite da lei, popolo mio, per non partecipare ai suoi peccati, per non esser colpiti dai suoi castighi;
5 Her sins have reached up to the sky, and God has her crimes in mind: treat her as she has treatedothers.	5 perchè i suoi peccati sono arrivati sino al cielo e il Signore s'è ricordato delle sue iniquità.
6 She must be paid double the amount she exacted. She is to have a doubly strong cup of her ownmixture.	6 Trattatela come vi ha trattati, e rendetele il doppio secondo le opere sue: nella coppa in cui ha mesciuto agli altri, mescete il doppio;
7 Every one of her pomps and orgies is to be matched by a torture or an agony. I am enthroned asqueen, she thinks; I am no widow and wil never know bereavement.	7 quanto si è data di gloria e di delizie, altrettanto datele di tormento e di lutto. Essa dice in cuor suo: M'assido regina e non son vedova, e non saprò che sia il pianto.
8 For that, in one day, the plagues wil fal on her: disease and mourning and famine. She wil be burnedto the ground. The Lord God who has condemned her is mighty.'	8 Ma appunto per questo in un sol giorno le piomberanno addosso i flagelli, la morte, il lutto, la fame, e sarà consumata dal fuoco, perchè potente è il Signore Dio che la giudicherà.
9 'There will be mourning and weeping for her by the kings of the earth who have prostituted themselveswith her and held orgies with her. They see the smoke as she burns,	9 E i re della terra che con essa fornicarono e vissero nelle delizie, quando vedranno il fumo del suo incendio piangeranno e si lamenteranno della sua sorte;
10 while they keep at a safe distance through fear of her anguish. They wil say: Mourn, mourn for thisgreat city, Babylon, so powerful a city, in one short hour your doom has come upon you.	10 stando lontani per paura dei suoi tormenti, diranno: Ahi, sventura, sventura! La famosa gran Babilonia! La città forte! In un attimo è venuto il tuo giudizio!
11 'There wil be weeping and distress over her among al the traders of the earth when no one is left tobuy their cargoes of goods;	11 E i mercanti della terra piangeranno e gemeranno sopra di lei, perchè nessuno comprerà più le loro merci:
12 their stocks of gold and silver, jewels and pearls, linen and purple and silks and scarlet; al thesandalwood, every piece in ivory or fine wood, in bronze or iron or marble;	12 e merci d'oro e d'argento, le pietre preziose e le perle, il bisso, la porpora e la seta, e lo scarlatto, e tutti i legnami odorosi, e tutti i vasi d'avorio, e tutti i vasi di pietra preziosa e di bronzo e di ferro e di marmo,
13 the cinnamon and spices, the myrrh and ointment and incense; wine, oil, flour and corn; their stocksof cattle, sheep, horses and chariots, their slaves and their human cargo.	13 il cinnamomo, e gli odori, e l'unguento, e l'incenso, e il vino e l'olio, e il fiore di farina e il grano, e i giumenti, e le pecore, e i cavalli, e i cocchi, e gli schiavi e le vite umane.
14 'Al the fruits you had set your hearts on have failed you; gone for ever, never to return again, is yourlife of magnificence and ease.	14 « Ma ora tante cose care all'anima tua t'hanno abbandonata e tutta l'abbondanza e tutta la magnificenza per te son perdute, nè più le ritroveranno ».
15 'The traders who had made a fortune out of her wil be standing at a safe distance through fear of heranguish, mourning and weeping.	15 I mercanti di tali cose, arricchiti da lei, se ne staranno lontano per paura dei suoi tormenti, e piangendo e gemendo
16 They wil be saying: Mourn, mourn for this great city; for al the linen and purple and scarlet that youwore, for al your finery of gold and jewels and pearls;	16 diranno: Ahi, sventura, sventura! La famosa gran città: colei che era vestita di bisso e di porpora e di scarlatto, ed era adorna d'oro e di pietre preziose, e di perle!
17 your huge riches are al destroyed within a single hour.' Al the captains and seafaring men, sailorsand all those who make a living from the sea kept a safe distance,	17 Come in un attimo sono state distrutte tante ricchezze! E tutti i piloti e tutti i naviganti e i marinai e quanti trafficano nel mare, se ne stettero alla lontana,
18 watching the smoke as she burned, and crying out, 'Has there ever been a city as great as this!'	18 e mirando il luogo del suo incendio esclamarono: Qual città fu mai grande come questa?
19 They threw dust on their heads and said, with tears and groans: 'Mourn, mourn for this great citywhose lavish living has made a fortune for every owner of a sea-going ship, ruined within a single hour.	19 E, gettandosi della polvere sul capo, esclamaron piangendo e gemendo: Ahi, sventura, sventura! La famosa gran città che colla sua opulenza fece arricchire quanti avevan navi sul mare, in un attimo è stata ridotta a un deserto!
20 'Now heaven, celebrate her downfall, and all you saints, apostles and prophets: God has givenjudgement for you against her.'	20 O cielo, esulta sopra di lei! E voi pure, o santi apostoli, o profeti! Perchè Dio, giudicandola, vi ha resa giustizia contro di lei.
21 Then a powerful angel picked up a boulder like a great mil stone, and as he hurled it into the sea, hesaid, 'That is how the great city of Babylon is going to be hurled down, never to be seen again.	21 Poi un Angelo robusto alzò una pietra grossa, come una macina, e la scagliò nel mare, dicendo: Con quest'impeto sarà precipitata Babilonia, la gran città, e disparirà per sempre.
22 Never again in you will be heard the song of harpists and minstrels, the music of flute and trumpet;never again wil craftsmen of every skill be found in you or the sound of the handmil be heard;	22 E in te non sarà più udito il suon dell'arpe, e delle musiche, e dei flauti, e della tromba, nè più sarà in te trovato artefice di qualsiasi arte, e in te non sarà più udito rumore di macine,
23 never again wil shine the light of the lamp in you, never again wil be heard in you the voices ofbridegroom and bride. Your traders were the princes of the earth, al the nations were led astray by your sorcery.	23 nè in te più brillerà lume di lucerna, nè voce di sposo o di sposa s'udrà più in te; perchè i tuoi mercanti erano i grandi della terra, perchè dalle tue malìe sono state sedotte tutte le nazioni,
24 In her was found the blood of prophets and saints, and all the blood that was ever shed on earth.'	24 perchè vi si è trovato il sangue dei profeti e dei santi, e di tutti quellche sono stati scannati sulla terra.
