1 After this, I saw another angel come down from heaven, with great authority given to him; the earthshone with his glory.	1 - E dopo ciò vidi un altro angelo scender dal cielo, che aveva grande autorità, e la terra fu illuminata dalla sua gloria.
2 At the top of his voice he shouted, 'Babylon has fal en, Babylon the Great has fallen, and has becomethe haunt of devils and a lodging for every foul spirit and dirty, loathsome bird.	2 E gridò con forte voce, dicendo: «È caduta, è caduta Babilonia la grande, ed è diventata abitazione di demoni e rifugio d'ogni spirito impuro e rifugio d'ogni uccello impuro e odioso.
3 Al the nations have drunk deep of the wine of her prostitution; every king on the earth has prostitutedhimself with her, and every merchant grown rich through her debauchery.'	3 Perchè del vino del furore della sua prostituzione han bevuto tutte le genti, e i re della terra han fornicato con essa, e i mercanti della terra si sono arricchiti per la sfrenatezza del suo lusso».
4 Another voice spoke from heaven; I heard it say, 'Come out, my people, away from her, so that you donot share in her crimes and have the same plagues to bear.	4 E udii un'altra voce dal cielo, che diceva: «Uscite, popol mio, da essa, per non partecipare ai suoi peccati e non toccar delle sue piaghe.
5 Her sins have reached up to the sky, and God has her crimes in mind: treat her as she has treatedothers.	5 Perchè son giunti i suoi peccati sino al cielo, e s'è rammentato Iddio delle sue ingiustizie.
6 She must be paid double the amount she exacted. She is to have a doubly strong cup of her ownmixture.	6 Rendete a lei secondo che essa stessa ha fatto a voi, e raddoppiate [anzi la misura] al doppio secondo le opere di lei:
7 Every one of her pomps and orgies is to be matched by a torture or an agony. I am enthroned asqueen, she thinks; I am no widow and wil never know bereavement.	7 col bicchiere col quale essa ha mesciuto, rimescetele il doppio. Quanto s'è gloriato e ha lussureggiato, tanto datele di tormento e di lutto. Perchè dice in cuor suo: "Io seggo regina e non son vedova e lutto non vedrò!"
8 For that, in one day, the plagues wil fal on her: disease and mourning and famine. She wil be burnedto the ground. The Lord God who has condemned her is mighty.'	8 Perciò in un sol giorno verranno le sue piaghe: morte e lutto e fame, e sarà arsa al fuoco. Giacchè forte è il Signore Iddio, che la giudicherà.
9 'There will be mourning and weeping for her by the kings of the earth who have prostituted themselveswith her and held orgies with her. They see the smoke as she burns,	9 E piangeranno e faran cordoglio per lei i re della terra, che con lei han fornicato e lussureggiato, quando vedranno il fumo del suo incendio,
10 while they keep at a safe distance through fear of her anguish. They wil say: Mourn, mourn for thisgreat city, Babylon, so powerful a city, in one short hour your doom has come upon you.	10 stando da lungi per paura del suo tormento, dicendo: - Ahi, ahi! la gran città, Babilonia la città forte! In un momento è venuto il tuo giudizio! -
11 'There wil be weeping and distress over her among al the traders of the earth when no one is left tobuy their cargoes of goods;	11 E i mercanti della terra piangeranno e si lamenteranno per lei, perchè nessuno comprerà più i loro carichi:
12 their stocks of gold and silver, jewels and pearls, linen and purple and silks and scarlet; al thesandalwood, every piece in ivory or fine wood, in bronze or iron or marble;	12 carichi d'oro e d'argento e di pietre preziose e di perle e di bisso e di porpora e di seta e di scarlatto, e ogni [sorta di] legno di cedro, e ogni oggetto di avorio, e ogni oggetto di preziosissimo legno e di rame e di ferro e di marmo,
13 the cinnamon and spices, the myrrh and ointment and incense; wine, oil, flour and corn; their stocksof cattle, sheep, horses and chariots, their slaves and their human cargo.	13 e cannella [e amomo] e profumi e olio aromatico e incenso, e vino e olio, e fior di farina e grano, e giumenti e pecore, e [carichi] di cavalli e di carri e di schiavi, e vite d'uomini.
14 'Al the fruits you had set your hearts on have failed you; gone for ever, never to return again, is yourlife of magnificence and ease.	14 E il frutto già maturo della bramosia dell'anima tua se n'è andato da te, e tutte le cose sontuose e splendide son perdute per te e non si ritroveranno più.
15 'The traders who had made a fortune out of her wil be standing at a safe distance through fear of heranguish, mourning and weeping.	15 I mercanti di tali cose, che s'erano arricchiti per mezzo di lei, staran da lungi per paura del suo tormento, piangendo e lamentandosi,
16 They wil be saying: Mourn, mourn for this great city; for al the linen and purple and scarlet that youwore, for al your finery of gold and jewels and pearls;	16 dicendo: - Ahi, ahi! la gran città, ch'era vestita di bisso e di porpora e di scarlatto, e scintillante d'oro e di pietre preziose e di perle! In un momento fu devastata tanta ricchezza! -
17 your huge riches are al destroyed within a single hour.' Al the captains and seafaring men, sailorsand all those who make a living from the sea kept a safe distance,	17 E ogni pilota e ognuno che navighi verso quel luogo e i marinai e tutti i lavoratori del mare se ne stetter da lungi,
18 watching the smoke as she burned, and crying out, 'Has there ever been a city as great as this!'	18 e gridaron vedendo il fumo del suo incendio, dicendo: - Qual'[altra mai era] simile a questa gran città? -
19 They threw dust on their heads and said, with tears and groans: 'Mourn, mourn for this great citywhose lavish living has made a fortune for every owner of a sea-going ship, ruined within a single hour.	19 E si gettaron polvere sul capo, e gridaron piangendo e lamentandosi, dicendo: - Ahi, ahi! la gran città, per cui s'arricchirono quanti avevan navi in mare, per via della sua magnificenza! In un momento è stata ridotta a un deserto! -
20 'Now heaven, celebrate her downfall, and all you saints, apostles and prophets: God has givenjudgement for you against her.'	20 Rallegrati a cagion sua, o cielo, e [voi pure] santi [e] apostoli e profeti; perchè v'ha reso giustizia Iddio con la sua condanna!».
21 Then a powerful angel picked up a boulder like a great mil stone, and as he hurled it into the sea, hesaid, 'That is how the great city of Babylon is going to be hurled down, never to be seen again.	21 E un angelo potente alzò una pietra come una grossa macina e la gettò nel mare, dicendo: «Con lo stesso impeto sarà gettata [via] Babilonia, la gran città, e più non si ritroverà!
22 Never again in you will be heard the song of harpists and minstrels, the music of flute and trumpet;never again wil craftsmen of every skill be found in you or the sound of the handmil be heard;	22 E voce di citaredi e musicisti e flautisti e trombettieri non si udirà più in te, e nessun artefice di nessun'arte sarà più trovato in te, e voce di molino non s'udirà più in te,
23 never again wil shine the light of the lamp in you, never again wil be heard in you the voices ofbridegroom and bride. Your traders were the princes of the earth, al the nations were led astray by your sorcery.	23 e luce di lampada non rilucerà più in te, e voce di sposo e sposa non s'udirà più in te. Perchè i tuoi mercanti erano i grandi della terra, perchè con la tua malia furon sedotte tutte le genti;
24 In her was found the blood of prophets and saints, and all the blood that was ever shed on earth.'	24 e in essa s'è trovato il sangue de' profeti e de' santi e di quanti furon sgozzati sulla terra».
