NEW JERUSALEMVULGATA
Continue to love each other like brothers,1 Caritas fraternitatis maneat in vobis,
and remember always to welcome strangers, for by doing this, some people have entertained angelswithout knowing it.2 et hospitalitatem nolite oblivisci : per hanc enim latuerunt quidam, angelis hospitio receptis.
Keep in mind those who are in prison, as though you were in prison with them; and those who arebeing badly treated, since you too are in the body.3 Mementote vinctorum, tamquam simul vincti : et laborantium, tamquam et ipsi in corpore morantes.
Marriage must be honoured by al , and marriages must be kept undefiled, because the sexuallyimmoral and adulterers wil come under God's judgement.4 Honorabile connubium in omnibus, et thorus immaculatus. Fornicatores enim, et adulteros judicabit Deus.
Put avarice out of your lives and be content with whatever you have; God himself has said: I shal notfail you or desert you,5 Sint mores sine avaritia, contenti præsentibus : ipse enim dixit : Non te deseram, neque derelinquam :
and so we can say with confidence: With the Lord on my side, I fear nothing: what can human beingsdo to me?6 ita ut confidenter dicamus : Dominus mihi adjutor : non timebo quid faciat mihi homo.
Remember your leaders, who preached the word of God to you, and as you reflect on the outcome oftheir lives, take their faith as your model.7 Mementote præpositorum vestrorum, qui vobis locuti sunt verbum Dei : quorum intuentes exitum conversationis, imitamini fidem.
Jesus Christ is the same today as he was yesterday and as he wil be for ever.8 Jesus Christus heri, et hodie : ipse et in sæcula.
Do not be led astray by al sorts of strange doctrines: it is better to rely on grace for inner strength thanon food, which has done no good to those who concentrate on it.9 Doctrinis variis et peregrinis nolite abduci. Optimum est enim gratia stabilire cor, non escis : quæ non profuerunt ambulantibus in eis.
We have our own altar from which those who serve the Tent have no right to eat.10 Habemus altare, de quo edere non habent potestatem, qui tabernaculo deserviunt.
The bodies of the animals whose blood is taken into the sanctuary by the high priest for the rite ofexpiation are burnt outside the camp,11 Quorum enim animalium infertur sanguis pro peccato in Sancta per pontificem, horum corpora cremantur extra castra.
and so Jesus too suffered outside the gate to sanctify the people with his own blood.12 Propter quod et Jesus, ut sanctificaret per suum sanguinem populum, extra portam passus est.
Let us go to him, then, outside the camp, and bear his humiliation.13 Exeamus igitur ad eum extra castra, improperium ejus portantes.
There is no permanent city for us here; we are looking for the one which is yet to be.14 Non enim habemus hic manentem civitatem, sed futuram inquirimus.
Through him, let us offer God an unending sacrifice of praise, the fruit of the lips of those whoacknowledge his name.15 Per ipsum ergo offeramus hostiam laudis semper Deo, id est, fructum labiorum confitentium nomini ejus.
Keep doing good works and sharing your resources, for these are the kinds of sacrifice that pleaseGod.16 Beneficentiæ autem et communionis nolite oblivisci : talibus enim hostiis promeretur Deus.
Obey your leaders and give way to them; they watch over your souls because they must give anaccount of them; make this a joy for them to do, and not a grief -- you yourselves would be the losers.17 Obedite præpositis vestris, et subjacete eis. Ipsi enim pervigilant quasi rationem pro animabus vestris reddituri, ut cum gaudio hoc faciant, et non gementes : hoc enim non expedit vobis.
Pray for us; we are sure that our own conscience is clear and we are certainly determined to behavehonourably in everything we do.18 Orate pro nobis : confidimus enim quia bonam conscientiam habemus in omnibus bene volentes conversari.
I ask you very particularly to pray that I may come back to you all the sooner.19 Amplius autem deprecor vos hoc facere, quo celerius restituar vobis.
I pray that the God of peace, who brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great Shepherd ofthe sheep, by the blood that sealed an eternal covenant,20 Deus autem pacis, qui eduxit de mortuis pastorem magnum ovium, in sanguine testamenti æterni, Dominum nostrum Jesum Christum,
may prepare you to do his wil in every kind of good action; effecting in us al whatever is acceptableto himself through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.21 aptet vos in omni bono, ut faciatis ejus voluntatem : faciens in vobis quod placeat coram se per Jesum Christum : cui est gloria in sæcula sæculorum. Amen.
I urge you, brothers, to take these words of encouragement kindly; that is why I have written to youbriefly.22 Rogo autem vos fratres, ut sufferatis verbum solatii. Etenim perpaucis scripsi vobis.
I want you to know that our brother Timothy has been set free. If he arrives in time, he will be with mewhen I see you.23 Cognoscite fratrem nostrum Timotheum dimissum : cum quo (si celerius venerit) videbo vos.
Greetings to al your leaders and to al God's holy people. God's holy people in Italy send yougreetings.24 Salutate omnes præpositos vestros, et omnes sanctos. Salutant vos de Italia fratres.
Grace be with you al .25 Gratia cum omnibus vobis. Amen.
