Continue to love each other like brothers,1 May fraternal charity remain in you.
and remember always to welcome strangers, for by doing this, some people have entertained angelswithout knowing it.2 And do not be willing to forget hospitality. For by it, certain persons, without realizing it, have received Angels as guests.
Keep in mind those who are in prison, as though you were in prison with them; and those who arebeing badly treated, since you too are in the body.3 Remember those who are prisoners, just as if you were imprisoned with them, and those who endure hardships, just as if you were in their place.
Marriage must be honoured by al , and marriages must be kept undefiled, because the sexuallyimmoral and adulterers wil come under God's judgement.4 May marriage be honorable in every way, and may the marriage bed be immaculate. For God will judge fornicators and adulterers.
Put avarice out of your lives and be content with whatever you have; God himself has said: I shal notfail you or desert you,5 Let your behavior be without avarice; be content with what you are offered. For he himself has said, “I will not abandon you, and I will not neglect you.”
and so we can say with confidence: With the Lord on my side, I fear nothing: what can human beingsdo to me?6 So then, we may confidently say, “The Lord is my helper. I will not fear what man can do to me.”
Remember your leaders, who preached the word of God to you, and as you reflect on the outcome oftheir lives, take their faith as your model.7 Remember your leaders, who have spoken the Word of God to you, whose faith you imitate, by observing the goal of their way of life:
Jesus Christ is the same today as he was yesterday and as he wil be for ever.8 Jesus Christ, yesterday and today; Jesus Christ forever.
Do not be led astray by al sorts of strange doctrines: it is better to rely on grace for inner strength thanon food, which has done no good to those who concentrate on it.9 Do not be led away by changing or strange doctrines. And it is best for the heart to be sustained by grace, not by foods. For the latter have not been as useful to those who walked by them.
We have our own altar from which those who serve the Tent have no right to eat.10 We have an altar: those who serve in the tabernacle have no authority to eat from it.
The bodies of the animals whose blood is taken into the sanctuary by the high priest for the rite ofexpiation are burnt outside the camp,11 For the bodies of those animals whose blood is carried into the Holy of holies by the high priest, on behalf of sin, are burned outside the camp.
and so Jesus too suffered outside the gate to sanctify the people with his own blood.12 Because of this, Jesus, too, in order to sanctify the people by his own blood, suffered outside the gate.
Let us go to him, then, outside the camp, and bear his humiliation.13 And so, let us go forth to him, outside the camp, bearing his reproach.
There is no permanent city for us here; we are looking for the one which is yet to be.14 For in this place, we have no everlasting city; instead, we seek one in the future.
Through him, let us offer God an unending sacrifice of praise, the fruit of the lips of those whoacknowledge his name.15 Therefore, through him, let us offer the sacrifice of continual praise to God, which is the fruit of lips confessing his name.
Keep doing good works and sharing your resources, for these are the kinds of sacrifice that pleaseGod.16 But do not be willing to forget good works and fellowship. For God is deserving of such sacrifices.
Obey your leaders and give way to them; they watch over your souls because they must give anaccount of them; make this a joy for them to do, and not a grief -- you yourselves would be the losers.17 Obey your leaders and be subject to them. For they watch over you, as if to render an account of your souls. So then, may they do this with joy, and not with grief. Otherwise, it would not be as helpful to you.
Pray for us; we are sure that our own conscience is clear and we are certainly determined to behavehonourably in everything we do.18 Pray for us. For we trust that we have a good conscience, being willing to conduct ourselves well in all things.
I ask you very particularly to pray that I may come back to you all the sooner.19 And I beg you, all the more, to do this, so that I may be quickly returned to you.
I pray that the God of peace, who brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great Shepherd ofthe sheep, by the blood that sealed an eternal covenant,20 Then may the God of peace, who led back from the dead that great Pastor of sheep, our Lord Jesus Christ, with the blood of the eternal testament,
may prepare you to do his wil in every kind of good action; effecting in us al whatever is acceptableto himself through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.21 equip you with all goodness, so that you may do his will. May he accomplish in you whatever is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom is glory forever and ever. Amen.
I urge you, brothers, to take these words of encouragement kindly; that is why I have written to youbriefly.22 And I beg you, brothers, that you may permit this word of consolation, especially since I have written to you with few words.
I want you to know that our brother Timothy has been set free. If he arrives in time, he will be with mewhen I see you.23 Know that our brother Timothy has been set free. If he arrives soon, then I will see you with him.
Greetings to al your leaders and to al God's holy people. God's holy people in Italy send yougreetings.24 Greet all your leaders and all the saints. The brothers from Italy greet you.
Grace be with you al .25 Grace be with you all. Amen.
