NEW JERUSALEMDOUAI-RHEIMS
Before God and before Christ Jesus who is to be judge of the living and the dead, I charge you, in thename of his appearing and of his kingdom:1 I charge thee, before God and Jesus Christ, who shall judge the living and the dead, by his coming, and his kingdom:
proclaim the message and, welcome or unwelcome, insist on it. Refute falsehood, correct error, giveencouragement -- but do all with patience and with care to instruct.2 Preach the word: be instant in season, out of season: reprove, entreat, rebuke in all patience and doctrine.
The time is sure to come when people wil not accept sound teaching, but their ears wil be itching foranything new and they wil col ect themselves a whole series of teachers according to their own tastes;3 For there shall be a time, when they will not endure sound doctrine; but, according to their own desires, they will heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears:
and then they will shut their ears to the truth and wil turn to myths.4 And will indeed turn away their hearing from the truth, but will be turned unto fables.
But you must keep steady al the time; put up with suffering; do the work of preaching the gospel; fulfilthe service asked of you.5 But be thou vigilant, labour in all things, do the work of an evangelist, fulfil thy ministry. Be sober.
As for me, my life is already being poured away as a libation, and the time has come for me to depart.6 For I am even now ready to be sacrificed: and the time of my dissolution is at hand.
I have fought the good fight to the end; I have run the race to the finish; I have kept the faith;7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.
al there is to come for me now is the crown of uprightness which the Lord, the upright judge, wil give tome on that Day; and not only to me but to al those who have longed for his appearing.8 As to the rest, there is laid up for me a crown of justice, which the Lord the just judge will render to me in that day: and not only to me, but to them also that love his coming. Make haste to come to me quickly.
Make every effort to come and see me as soon as you can.9 For Demas hath left me, loving this world, and is gone to Thessalonica:
As it is, Demas has deserted me for love of this life and gone to Thessalonica, Crescens has gone toGalatia and Titus to Dalmatia;10 Crescens into Galatia, Titus into Dalmatia.
only Luke is with me. Bring Mark with you; I find him a useful helper in my work.11 Only Luke is with me. Take Mark, and bring him with thee: for he is profitable to me for the ministry.
I have sent Tychicus to Ephesus.12 But Tychicus I have sent to Ephesus.
When you come, bring the cloak I left with Carpus in Troas, and the scrol s, especially the parchmentones.13 The cloak that I left at Troas, with Carpus, when thou comest, bring with thee, and the books, especially the parchments.
Alexander the coppersmith has done me a lot of harm; the Lord wil repay him as his deeds deserve.14 Alexander the coppersmith hath done me much evil: the Lord will reward him according to his works:
Be on your guard against him yourself, because he has been bitterly contesting everything that we say.15 Whom do thou also avoid, for he hath greatly withstood our words.
The first time I had to present my defence, no one came into court to support me. Every one of themdeserted me -- may they not be held accountable for it.16 At my first answer no man stood with me, but all forsook me: may it not be laid to their charge.
But the Lord stood by me and gave me power, so that through me the message might be ful yproclaimed for al the gentiles to hear; and so I was saved from the lion's mouth.17 But the Lord stood by me, and strengthened me, that by me the preaching may be accomplished, and that all the Gentiles may hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.
The Lord will rescue me from all evil attempts on me, and bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom. Tohim be glory for ever and ever. Amen.18 The Lord hath delivered me from every evil work: and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Greetings to Prisca and Aquila, and the family of Onesiphorus.19 Salute Prisca and Aquila, and the household of Onesiphorus.
Erastus stayed behind at Corinth, and I left Trophimus il at Miletus.20 Erastus remained at Corinth. And Trophimus I left sick at Miletus.
Make every effort to come before the winter. Greetings to you from Eubulus, Pudens, Linus, Claudiaand all the brothers.21 Make haste to come before winter Eubulus and Pudens, and Linus and Claudia, and all the brethren, salute thee.
The Lord be with your spirit. Grace be with you.22 The Lord Jesus Christ be with thy spirit. Grace be with you. Amen.
