1 Al those under the yoke of slavery must have unqualified respect for their masters, so that the name ofGod and our teaching are not brought into disrepute.	1 Alle, die das Joch der Sklaverei zu tragen haben, sollen ihren Herren alle Ehre erweisen, damit der Name Gottes und die Lehre nicht in Verruf kommen.
2 Those whose masters are believers are not to respect them less because they are brothers; on thecontrary, they should serve them al the better, since those who have the benefit of their services are believersand dear to God. This is what you are to teach and urge.	2 aWer aber einen gläubigen Herrn hat, achte ihn nicht deshalb für geringer, weil er sein Bruder ist, sondern diene ihm noch eifriger; denn sein Herr ist gläubig und von Gott geliebt und bemüht sich, Gutes zu tun. So sollst du lehren, dazu sollst du ermahnen.
3 Anyone who teaches anything different and does not keep to the sound teaching which is that of ourLord Jesus Christ, the doctrine which is in accordance with true religion,	3 Wer aber etwas anderes lehrt und sich nicht an die gesunden Worte Jesu Christi, unseres Herrn, und an die Lehre unseres Glaubens hält,
4 is proud and has no understanding, but rather a weakness for questioning everything and arguing aboutwords. Al that can come of this is jealousy, contention, abuse and evil mistrust;	4 der ist verblendet; er versteht nichts, sondern ist krank vor lauter Auseinandersetzungen und Wortgefechten. Diese führen zu Neid, Streit, Verleumdungen, üblen Verdächtigungen
5 and unending disputes by people who are depraved in mind and deprived of truth, and imagine thatreligion is a way of making a profit.	5 und Gezänk unter den Menschen, deren Denken verdorben ist; diese Leute sind von der Wahrheit abgekommen und meinen, die Frömmigkeit sei ein Mittel, um irdischen Gewinn zu erzielen.
6 Religion, of course, does bring large profits, but only to those who are content with what they have.	6 Die Frömmigkeit bringt in der Tat reichen Gewinn, wenn man nur genügsam ist.
7 We brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it;	7 Denn wir haben nichts in die Welt mitgebracht, und wir können auch nichts aus ihr mitnehmen.
8 but as long as we have food and clothing, we shal be content with that.	8 Wenn wir Nahrung und Kleidung haben, soll uns das genügen.
9 People who long to be rich are a prey to trial; they get trapped into all sorts of foolish and harmfulambitions which plunge people into ruin and destruction.	9 Wer aber reich werden will, gerät in Versuchungen und Schlingen, er verfällt vielen sinnlosen und schädlichen Begierden, die den Menschen ins Verderben und in den Untergang stürzen.
10 'The love of money is the root of all evils' and there are some who, pursuing it, have wandered awayfrom the faith and so given their souls any number of fatal wounds.	10 Denn die Wurzel aller Übel ist die Habsucht. Nicht wenige, die ihr verfielen, sind vom Glauben abgeirrt und haben sich viele Qualen bereitet.
11 But, as someone dedicated to God, avoid al that. You must aim to be upright and religious, fil ed withfaith and love, perseverance and gentleness.	11 Du aber, ein Mann Gottes, flieh vor all dem. Strebe unermüdlich nach Gerechtigkeit, Frömmigkeit, Glauben, Liebe, Standhaftigkeit und Sanftmut.
12 Fight the good fight of faith and win the eternal life to which you were cal ed and for which you madeyour noble profession of faith before many witnesses.	12 Kämpfe den guten Kampf des Glaubens, ergreife das ewige Leben, zu dem du berufen worden bist und für das du vor vielen Zeugen das gute Bekenntnis abgelegt hast.
13 Now, before God, the source of all life, and before Jesus Christ, who witnessed to his noble professionof faith before Pontius Pilate, I charge you	13 Ich gebiete dir bei Gott, von dem alles Leben kommt, und bei Christus Jesus, der vor Pontius Pilatus das gute Bekenntnis abgelegt hat und als Zeuge dafür eingetreten ist:
14 to do al that you have been told, with no faults or failures, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ,	14 Erfülle deinen Auftrag rein und ohne Tadel, bis zum Erscheinen Jesu Christi, unseres Herrn,
15 who at the due time wil be revealed by God, the blessed and only Ruler of al , the King of kings andthe Lord of lords,	15 das zur vorherbestimmten Zeit herbeiführen wird der selige und einzige Herrscher, der König der Könige und Herr der Herren,
16 who alone is immortal, whose home is in inaccessible light, whom no human being has seen or is ableto see: to him be honour and everlasting power. Amen.	16 der allein die Unsterblichkeit besitzt, der in unzugänglichem Licht wohnt, den kein Mensch gesehen hat noch je zu sehen vermag: Ihm gebührt Ehre und ewige Macht. Amen.
17 Instruct those who are rich in this world's goods that they should not be proud and should set theirhopes not on money, which is untrustworthy, but on God who gives us richly al that we need for our happiness.	17 Ermahne die, die in dieser Welt reich sind, nicht überheblich zu werden und ihre Hoffnung nicht auf den unsicheren Reichtum zu setzen, sondern auf Gott, der uns alles reichlich gibt, was wir brauchen.
18 They are to do good and be rich in good works, generous in giving and always ready to share-	18 Sie sollen wohltätig sein, reich werden an guten Werken, freigebig sein und, was sie haben, mit anderen teilen.
19 this is the way they can amass a good capital sum for the future if they want to possess the only lifethat is real.	19 So sammeln sie sich einen Schatz als sichere Grundlage für die Zukunft, um das wahre Leben zu erlangen.
20 My dear Timothy, take great care of al that has been entrusted to you. Turn away from godlessphilosophical discussions and the contradictions of the 'knowledge' which is not knowledge at al ;	20 Timotheus, bewahre, was dir anvertraut ist. Halte dich fern von dem gottlosen Geschwätz und den falschen Lehren der sogenannten «Erkenntnis»!
21 by adopting this, some have missed the goal of faith. Grace be with you.	21 Nicht wenige, die sich darauf eingelassen haben, sind vom Weg des Glaubens abgekommen. Die Gnade sei mit euch!
