1 So if in Christ there is anything that will move you, any incentive in love, any fel owship in the Spirit, anywarmth or sympathy -- I appeal to you,	1 Puis-je vous faire un appel dans le Christ? Puis-je faire appel à l’amour? Sommes-nous en communion dans un même esprit, et y a-t-il chez vous tendresse et compassion?
2 make my joy complete by being of a single mind, one in love, one in heart and one in mind.	2 Alors donnez-moi cette joie: mettez-vous d’accord, soyez unis dans l’amour, n’ayez qu’une âme avec un même projet.
3 Nothing is to be done out of jealousy or vanity; instead, out of humility of mind everyone should givepreference to others,	3 Ne faites rien par rivalité ou pour la gloire; ayez l’humilité de croire les autres meilleurs que vous-mêmes.
4 everyone pursuing not selfish interests but those of others.	4 Au lieu de penser chacun à son intérêt, que chacun se préoccupe des autres.
5 Make your own the mind of Christ Jesus:	5 Que l’on trouve en vous le même projet que chez le Christ Jésus:
6 Who, being in the form of God, did not count equality with God something to be grasped.	6 Lui qui jouissait de la nature de Dieu, il ne s’est pas attaché à cette égalité avec Dieu,
7 But he emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, becoming as human beings are; and being in everyway like a human being,	7 mais il s’est dépouillé, jusqu’à prendre la condition de serviteur devenu semblable aux humains.
8 he was humbler yet, even to accepting death, death on a cross.	8 Et quand il s’est trouvé comme l’un d’eux, il s’est mis au plus bas, il s’est fait obéissant jusqu’à la mort, et la mort en croix.
9 And for this God raised him high, and gave him the name which is above al other names;	9 C’est pourquoi Dieu l’a élevé et lui a donné le Nom qui passe tout autre nom
10 so that al beings in the heavens, on earth and in the underworld, should bend the knee at the name ofJesus	10 afin qu’au Nom de Jésus tout genou fléchisse au ciel, sur terre, et en bas chez les morts,
11 and that every tongue should acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord, to the glory of God the Father.	11 et que toute langue proclame: “Jésus Christ est Seigneur!”, pour la gloire de Dieu le Père!
12 So, my dear friends, you have always been obedient; your obedience must not be limited to timeswhen I am present. Now that I am absent it must be more in evidence, so work out your salvation in fear andtrembling.	12 Donc, mes bien-aimés, puisque toujours vous m’écoutez, continuez de mener à bien l’œuvre de votre salut avec “crainte et tremblement”. Ne le faites pas seulement quand je suis là, mais plus encore quand je suis au loin.
13 It is God who, for his own generous purpose, gives you the intention and the powers to act.	13 Pensez que Dieu lui-même agit en vous pour que vous désiriez, et ensuite pour que vous agissiez en cherchant à lui plaire.
14 Let your behaviour be free of murmuring and complaining	14 Faites donc tout sans récrimination ni discussion.
15 so that you remain faultless and pure, unspoilt children of God surrounded by a deceitful andunderhand brood, shining out among them like bright stars in the world,	15 Ainsi vous serez sans faute ni tache; soyez des enfants de Dieu sans reproche au milieu d’un peuple dévoyé et perverti. Au milieu d’eux vous êtes lumière, comme les astres dans l’univers,
16 proffering to it the Word of life. Then I shall have reason to be proud on the Day of Christ, for it wil notbe for nothing that I have run the race and toiled so hard.	16 quand vous leur présentez la parole de vie. Vous serez ainsi ma fierté au Jour du Christ, car je n’aurai pas couru, je n’aurai pas travaillé pour rien.
17 Indeed, even if my blood has to be poured as a libation over your sacrifice and the offering of yourfaith, then I shal be glad and join in your rejoicing-	17 Et si je dois donner ma vie pour cette offrande et ce service religieux qu’est votre foi, je m’en réjouis et je partage votre joie.
18 and in the same way, you must be glad and join in my rejoicing.	18 Et de votre côté, réjouissez-vous et partagez ma joie.
19 I hope, in the Lord Jesus, to send Timothy to you soon, so that my mind may be set at rest when I hearhow you are.	19 J’ai bon espoir dans le Seigneur Jésus de vous envoyer bientôt Timothée: cela me réconfortera d’avoir de vos nouvelles.
20 There is nobody else that I can send who is like him and cares as sincerely for your well-being;	20 De fait, je n’ai personne qui s’intéresse à vos problèmes aussi sincèrement que lui.
21 they al want to work for themselves, not for Jesus Christ.	21 Chacun pense à ses intérêts, non à ceux du Christ Jésus,
22 But you know what sort of person he has proved himself, working with me for the sake of the gospellike a son with his father.	22 mais pour lui, vous savez qu’il a fait ses preuves et il a travaillé avec moi pour l’Évangile comme un fils avec son père.
23 That is the man, then, that I am hoping to send to you immediately I can make out what is going tohappen to me;	23 Donc je compte vous l’envoyer dès que je saurai comment vont mes affaires,
24 but I am confident in the Lord that I shal come myself, too, before long.	24 et j’ai bon espoir dans le Seigneur que moi aussi j’irai sans tarder.
25 Nevertheless I thought it essential to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother and fel ow-worker andcompanion-in-arms since he came as your representative to look after my needs;	25 J’ai cru nécessaire de vous renvoyer Épaphrodite, notre frère, qui a combattu et travaillé avec moi. Vous l’aviez envoyé pour m’assister de votre part,
26 because he was missing you al and was worrying because you had heard that he was il .	26 mais il supportait mal votre absence, et de plus il regrettait que vous ayez appris sa maladie.
27 Indeed he was seriously il and nearly died; but God took pity on him -- and not only on him but also onme, to spare me one grief on top of another.	27 De fait, il a été bien malade et près d’en mourir, mais Dieu a eu pitié de lui et aussi de moi, car j’avais déjà assez de peine.
28 So I am sending him back as promptly as I can so that you wil have the joy of seeing him again, andthat wil be some comfort to me in my distress.	28 J’ai donc tenu à vous le renvoyer, pour que vous ayez la joie de le revoir et que moi-même je sois en paix.
29 Welcome him in the Lord, then, with al joy; hold people like him in honour,	29 Faites-lui bon accueil dans le Seigneur, joyeusement, et sachez apprécier les gens comme lui.
30 because it was for Christ's work that he came so near to dying, risking his life to do the duty to mewhich you could not do yourselves.	30 Car ce sont ses activités chrétiennes qui l’ont presque mené à la mort; il a payé de sa personne pour ne pas laisser en plan ce que vous aviez décidé de faire pour m’aider.
