Romans 11

1 What I am saying is this: is it possible that God abandoned his people? Out of the question! I too aman Israelite, descended from Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.	1 Digo, pois: Porventura Deus rejeitou (todo) o seu povo? Longe disso. Porque eu também sou israelita, da descendência de Abraão, da tribo de Benjamim.
2 God never abandoned his own people to whom, ages ago, he had given recognition. Do you notremember what scripture says about Elijah and how he made a complaint to God against Israel:	2 Deus não rejeitou (todo) o seu povo, que conheceu na sua presciência. Não sabeis o que a Escritura refere de Elias, de que modo ele faz a Deus esta acusação contra Israel:
3 Lord, they have put your prophets to the sword, torn down your altars. I am the only one left, and now they want to kil me?	3 Senhor, mataram os teus profetas, derribaram os teus altares: e eu fiquei só e querem a minha vida (1Rs. 19, 10)?
4 And what was the prophetic answer given? I have spared for myself seven thousand men that havenot bent the knee to Baal.	4 Mas que lhe disse Deus em resposta: Eu reservei para mim sete mil homens, que não dobraram os joelhos diante de Baal (1Rs. 19, 18).
5 In the same way, then, in our own time, there is a remnant, set aside by grace.	5 Do mesmo modo, ainda agora existem aqueles que foram reservados segundo a escolha da graça.
6 And since it is by grace, it cannot now be by good actions, or grace would not be grace at al !	6 Ora, se isto foi por graça, não foi pelas obras; doutra sorte, a graça já não é graça.
7 What fol ows? Israel failed to find what it was seeking; only those who were chosen found it and therest had their minds hardened;	7 Que (diremos) pois? (Diremos) que Israel não conseguiu o que buscava, tendo-o contudo, conseguido os escolhidos (por Deus). Quanto aos outros, foram obsecados (por sua malicia),
8 just as it says in scripture: God has infused them with a spirit of lethargy; until today they have noteyes to see or ears to hear.	8 como está escrito: Deus deu-lhes um espirito de torpor, olhos para que não vejam, e ouvidos para que não ouçam, até ao dia de hoje (Dt. 29, 3).
9 David too says: May their own table prove a trap for them, a pitfal and a snare; let that be theirretribution.	9 E David diz: A mesa deles se lhes converta em laço, em prisão, em ocasião de queda, e isto para seu justo castigo
10 May their eyes grow so dim they cannot see, and their backs be bent for ever.	10 Escurecidos sejam os seus olhos, para que não vejam, e esteja sempre curvado o seu dorso (Ps. 68, 23-24).
11 What I am saying is this: Was this stumbling to lead to their final downfall? Out of the question! Onthe contrary, their failure has brought salvation for the gentiles, in order to stir them to envy.	11 Digo, pois: porventura tropeçaram eles de maneira a caírem (para sempre)? Não, certamente. Mas, pelo seu delito, veio a salvação aos gentios, para os incitar à emulação.
12 And if their fal has proved a great gain to the world, and their loss has proved a great gain to thegentiles -- how much greater a gain wil come when all is restored to them!	12 Ora, se o seu delito foi a riqueza do mundo, e a sua decadência a riqueza dos gentios, quanto mais a sua conversão em massa?
13 Let me say then to you gentiles that, as far as I am an apostle to the gentiles, I take pride in thiswork of service;	13 A vós, pois, ó gentios (convertidos ao cristianismo): enquanto Apóstolo das gentes, honrarei o meu ministério,
14 and I want it to be the means of rousing to envy the people who are my own blood-relations and soof saving some of them.	14 para ver se, dalgum modo, provoco à emulação os do meu sangue e salvo alguns deles
15 Since their rejection meant the reconciliation of the world, do you know what their re-acceptance willmean? Nothing less than life from the dead!	15 Porque, se a perda deles foi (ocasião da) reconciliação do mundo, que será a sua reintegração senão uma ressurreição dentre os mortos?
16 When the first-fruits are made holy, so is the whole batch; and if the root is holy, so are thebranches.	16 Se as primícias são santas, também o é a massa; se é santa a raiz, também o são os ramos.
17 Now suppose that some branches were broken off, and you are wild olive, grafted among the rest toshare with the others the rich sap of the olive tree;	17 Se algum dos ramos foram quebrados, e tu, sendo um zambujeiro, foste enxertado em seu lugar, e foste (em seu lugar) participante da seiva da raiz da oliveira,
18 then it is not for you to consider yourself superior to the other branches; and if you start feelingproud, think: it is not you that sustain the root, but the root that sustains you.	18 não te vanglories contra os ramos. Se te vanglorias, (fica sabendo que) não és tu que sustentas a raiz, mas a raiz a ti.
19 You wil say, 'Branches were broken off on purpose for me to be grafted in.' True;	19 Dirás talvez : "Os ramos foram cortados, para que eu fosse enxertado."
20 they through their unbelief were broken off, and you are established through your faith. So it is notpride that you should have, but fear:	20 Isso é verdade: por causa da sua incredulidade foram cortados. E tu estás firme pela fé ; não te ensoberbeças (por isso), mas teme.
21 if God did not spare the natural branches, he might not spare you either.	21 Porque, se Deus não perdoou aos ramos naturais, não perdoará também a ti (que és ramo enxertado).
22 Remember God's severity as well as his goodness: his severity to those who fel , and his goodnessto you as long as you persevere in it; if not, you too will be cut off.	22 Considera, pois, a bondade e a severidade de Deus; a severidade para com aqueles que caíram e a bondade de Deus para contigo, se permaneceres na bondade; doutra maneira também serás cortado.
23 And they, if they do not persevere in their unbelief, wil be grafted in; for it is within the power of Godto graft them back again.	23 E eles também, se não permanecerem na incredulidade, serão enxertados, pois Deus é poderoso para os enxertar de novo.
24 After al , if you, cut off from what was by nature a wild olive, could then be grafted unnaturally on to acultivated olive, how much easier wil it be for them, the branches that natural y belong there, to be grafted on tothe olive tree which is their own.	24 Em verdade, se foste cortado do zambujeiro natural, e, contra a tua natureza, foste enxertado em boa oliveira, quanto mais aqueles que são da mesma natureza, serão enxertados na sua própria oliveira?
25 I want you to be quite certain, brothers, of this mystery, to save you from congratulating yourselveson your own good sense: part of Israel had its mind hardened, but only until the gentiles have whol y come in;	25 Não quero, Irmãos, que ignoreis este mistério, para que não vos vanglorieis da vossa sabedoria, (isto é) que uma parte de Israel caiu na cegueira até que tenha entrado (na Igreja) a plenitude dos gentios.
26 and this is how all Israel will be saved. As scripture says: From Zion will come the Redeemer, he wilremove godlessness from Jacob.	26 E assim todo o Israel se salvará, como está escrito: Virá de Sião o libertador e afastará de Jacob a impiedade.
27 And this wil be my covenant with them, when I take their sins away.	27 Terão de mim esta aliança, quando eu tirar os seus pecados (Is. 59, 20-21; Is. 27, 9).
28 As regards the gospel, they are enemies, but for your sake; but as regards those who are God'schoice, they are stil wel loved for the sake of their ancestors.	28 É verdade que, quanto ao Evangelho, eles agora são inimigos (de Deus) por causa de vós; mas, quanto à escolha divina, eles são muito queridos por causa de seus pais.
29 There is no change of mind on God's part about the gifts he has made or of his choice.	29 Com efeito, os dons e a vocação de Deus são sem arrependimento.
30 Just as you were in the past disobedient to God but now you have been shown mercy, through theirdisobedience;	30 Assim como também vós outrora desobedecestes a Deus e agora alcançastes misericórdia pela desobediência deles,
31 so in the same way they are disobedient now, so that through the mercy shown to you they too wilreceive mercy.	31 assim também eles agora não obedecem, a fim de que, pela misericórdia que vos foi feita, alcancem também eles misericórdia (excitados por uma santa inveja de vós).
32 God has imprisoned al human beings in their own disobedience only to show mercy to them al .	32 Efectivamente, Deus a todos encerrou na desobediência, a fim de usar com todos de misericórdia.
33 How rich and deep are the wisdom and the knowledge of God! We cannot reach to the root of hisdecisions or his ways.	33 O profundidade das riquezas da sabedoria e da ciência de Deus! Quão incompreensíveis são os seus juízos e imperscrutáveis os seus caminhos!
34 Who has ever known the mind of the Lord? Who has ever been his adviser?	34 Pois quem conheceu o pensamento do Senhor? Ou quem foi o seu conselheiro?
35 Who has given anything to him, so that his presents come only as a debt returned?	35 Ou quem lhe deu alguma coisa, primeiro, para que tenha de receber em troca?
36 Everything there is comes from him and is caused by him and exists for him. To him be glory forever! Amen.	36 Porque dele, por ele e para ele são todas as coisas; a ele (seja dada) glória por todos os séculos. Amen.
