Romans 11

NEW JERUSALEM	DIODATI
1 What I am saying is this: is it possible that God abandoned his people? Out of the question! I too aman Israelite, descended from Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.	1 IO dico adunque: Ha Iddio rigettato il suo popolo? Così non sia; perciocchè io ancora sono Israelita, della progenie d’Abrahamo, della tribù di Beniamino.
2 God never abandoned his own people to whom, ages ago, he had given recognition. Do you notremember what scripture says about Elijah and how he made a complaint to God against Israel:	2 Iddio non ha rigettato il suo popolo, il quale egli ha innanzi conosciuto. Non sapete voi ciò che la scrittura dice nella storia di Elia? come egli si richiama a Dio contro ad Israele, dicendo:
3 Lord, they have put your prophets to the sword, torn down your altars. I am the only one left, and now they want to kil me?	3 Signore, hanno uccisi i tuoi profeti, ed hanno distrutti i tuoi altari, ed io son rimasto solo; ed anche cercano l’anima mia?
4 And what was the prophetic answer given? I have spared for myself seven thousand men that havenot bent the knee to Baal.	4 Ma, che gli disse la voce divina? Io mi son riserbato settemila uomini, che non han piegato il ginocchio all’idolo di Baal.
5 In the same way, then, in our own time, there is a remnant, set aside by grace.	5 Così adunque ancora nel tempo presente è stato lasciato alcun rimanente, secondo l’elezion della grazia.
6 And since it is by grace, it cannot now be by good actions, or grace would not be grace at al !	6 E se è per grazia, non è più per opere; altrimenti, grazia non è più grazia; ma, se è per opere, non è più grazia; altrimenti, opera non è più opera.
7 What fol ows? Israel failed to find what it was seeking; only those who were chosen found it and therest had their minds hardened;	7 Che dunque? Israele non ha ottenuto quel ch’egli cerca; ma l’elezione l’ha ottenuto, e gli altri sono stati indurati, infino a questo giorno.
8 just as it says in scripture: God has infused them with a spirit of lethargy; until today they have noteyes to see or ears to hear.	8 Secondo ch’egli è scritto: Iddio ha loro dato uno spirito di stordimento, occhi da non vedere, ed orecchi da non udire.
9 David too says: May their own table prove a trap for them, a pitfal and a snare; let that be theirretribution.	9 E Davide dice: Sia la lor mensa loro in laccio, ed in rete, ed in intoppo, ed in retribuzione.
10 May their eyes grow so dim they cannot see, and their backs be bent for ever.	10 Sieno i loro occhi oscurati da non vedere, e piega loro del continuo il dosso.
11 What I am saying is this: Was this stumbling to lead to their final downfall? Out of the question! Onthe contrary, their failure has brought salvation for the gentiles, in order to stir them to envy.	11 Io dico adunque: Si son eglino intoppati acciocchè cadessero? Così non sia; anzi, per la lor caduta è avvenuta la salute a’ Gentili, per provocarli a gelosia.
12 And if their fal has proved a great gain to the world, and their loss has proved a great gain to thegentiles -- how much greater a gain wil come when all is restored to them!	12 Ora, se la lor caduta è la ricchezza del mondo, e la lor diminuzione la ricchezza de’ Gentili, quanto più lo sarà la lor pienezza?
13 Let me say then to you gentiles that, as far as I am an apostle to the gentiles, I take pride in thiswork of service;	13 Perciocchè io parlo a voi Gentili; in quanto certo sono apostolo de’ Gentili, io onoro il mio ministerio;
14 and I want it to be the means of rousing to envy the people who are my own blood-relations and soof saving some of them.	14 per provare se in alcuna maniera posso provocare a gelosia que’ della mia carne, e salvare alcuni di loro.
15 Since their rejection meant the reconciliation of the world, do you know what their re-acceptance willmean? Nothing less than life from the dead!	15 Perciocchè, se il lor rigettamento è la riconciliazione del mondo, qual sarà la loro ammissione, se non vita da’ morti?
16 When the first-fruits are made holy, so is the whole batch; and if the root is holy, so are thebranches.	16 Ora, se le primizie son sante, la massa ancora è santa; e se la radice è santa, i rami ancora son santi.
17 Now suppose that some branches were broken off, and you are wild olive, grafted among the rest toshare with the others the rich sap of the olive tree;	17 E se pure alcuni de’ rami sono stati troncati, e tu, essendo ulivastro, sei stato innestato in luogo loro, e fatto partecipe della radice, e della grassezza dell’ulivo;
18 then it is not for you to consider yourself superior to the other branches; and if you start feelingproud, think: it is not you that sustain the root, but the root that sustains you.	18 non gloriarti contro a’ rami; e se pur tu ti glorii contro a loro, tu non porti la radice, ma la radice porta te.
19 You wil say, 'Branches were broken off on purpose for me to be grafted in.' True;	19 Forse adunque dirai: I rami sono stati troncati, acciocchè io fossi innestato.
20 they through their unbelief were broken off, and you are established through your faith. So it is notpride that you should have, but fear:	20 Bene; sono stati troncati per l’incredulità, e tu stai ritto per la fede; non superbir nell’animo tuo, ma temi.
21 if God did not spare the natural branches, he might not spare you either.	21 Perciocchè, se Iddio non ha risparmiati i rami naturali, guarda che talora te ancora non risparmi.
22 Remember God's severity as well as his goodness: his severity to those who fel , and his goodnessto you as long as you persevere in it; if not, you too will be cut off.	22 Vedi adunque la benignità, e la severità di Dio: la severità, sopra coloro che son caduti; e la benignità, inverso te, se pur tu perseveri nella benignità; altrimenti, tu ancora sarai reciso.
23 And they, if they do not persevere in their unbelief, wil be grafted in; for it is within the power of Godto graft them back again.	23 E quelli ancora, se non perseverano nell’incredulità, saranno innestati; perciocchè Iddio è potente da innestarli di nuovo.
24 After al , if you, cut off from what was by nature a wild olive, could then be grafted unnaturally on to acultivated olive, how much easier wil it be for them, the branches that natural y belong there, to be grafted on tothe olive tree which is their own.	24 Imperocchè, se tu sei stato tagliato dall’ulivo che di natura era salvatico, e sei fuor di natura stato innestato nell’ulivo domestico; quanto più costoro, che son rami naturali, saranno innestati nel proprio ulivo?
25 I want you to be quite certain, brothers, of this mystery, to save you from congratulating yourselveson your own good sense: part of Israel had its mind hardened, but only until the gentiles have whol y come in;	25 Perciocchè io non voglio, fratelli, che ignoriate questo misterio acciocchè non siate presuntuosi in voi stessi, che induramento è avvenuto in parte ad Israele, finchè la pienezza de’ Gentili sia entrata.
26 and this is how all Israel will be saved. As scripture says: From Zion will come the Redeemer, he wilremove godlessness from Jacob.	26 E così tutto Israele sarà salvato, secondo ch’egli è scritto: Il Liberatore verrà di Sion, e torrà d’innanzi a sè l’empietà di Giacobbe.
27 And this wil be my covenant with them, when I take their sins away.	27 E questo sarà il patto che avranno da me, quando io avrò tolti via i lor peccati.
28 As regards the gospel, they are enemies, but for your sake; but as regards those who are God'schoice, they are stil wel loved for the sake of their ancestors.	28 Ben son essi nemici, quant’è all’evangelo, per voi; ma quant’è all’elezione, sono amati per i padri.
29 There is no change of mind on God's part about the gifts he has made or of his choice.	29 Perciocchè i doni, e la vocazione di Dio son senza pentimento.
30 Just as you were in the past disobedient to God but now you have been shown mercy, through theirdisobedience;	30 Imperocchè, siccome ancora voi già eravate disubbidienti a Dio; ma ora avete ottenuta misericordia, per la disubbidienza di costoro;
31 so in the same way they are disobedient now, so that through the mercy shown to you they too wilreceive mercy.	31 così ancora costoro al presente sono stati disubbidienti; acciocchè, per la misericordia che vi è stata fatta, essi ancora ottengano misericordia.
32 God has imprisoned al human beings in their own disobedience only to show mercy to them al .	32 Perciocchè Iddio ha rinchiusi tutti in disubbidienza, acciocchè faccia misericordia a tutti
33 How rich and deep are the wisdom and the knowledge of God! We cannot reach to the root of hisdecisions or his ways.	33 O PROFONDITÀ di ricchezze, e di sapienza, e di conoscimento di Dio! quanto è impossibile di rinvenire i suoi giudicii, e d’investigar le sue vie!
34 Who has ever known the mind of the Lord? Who has ever been his adviser?	34 Perciocchè chi ha conosciuta la mente del Signore? o chi è stato suo consigliere?
35 Who has given anything to him, so that his presents come only as a debt returned?	35 O chi gli ha dato il primiero, e gliene sarà fatta retribuzione?
36 Everything there is comes from him and is caused by him and exists for him. To him be glory forever! Amen.	36 Poichè da lui, e per lui, e per amor di lui, sono tutte le cose. A lui sia la gloria in eterno. Amen
