John 14

NEW JERUSALEM	STUTTGARTENSIA-DELITZSCH
1 Do not let your hearts be troubled. You trust in God, trust also in me.	1 אַל־יִבָּהֵל לְבַבְכֶם הַאֲמִינוּ בֵאלֹהִים וּבִי הַאֲמִינוּ
2 In my Father's house there are many places to live in; otherwise I would have told you. I am going nowto prepare a place for you,	2 בְּבֵית אָבִי מְעוֹנוֹת רַבּוֹת וְאִם־לֹא כֵן הוּא כִּי עַתָּה הִגַּדְתִּי לָכֶם הִנְנִי הֹלֵךְ לְהָכִין מָקוֹם לָכֶם
3 and after I have gone and prepared you a place, I shall return to take you to myself, so that you maybe with me where I am.	3 וְהָיָה כִּי־הָלַכְתִּי וַהֲכִינוֹתִי לָכֶם מָקוֹם שׁוֹב אָשׁוּב וְלָקַחְתִּי אֶתְכֶם אֵלָי לְמַעַן בַּאֲשֶׁר אֶהְיֶה שָׁם תִּהְיוּ גַּם־אַתֶּם
4 You know the way to the place where I am going.	4 וְאֶל־אֲשֶׁר אֲנִי הוֹלֵךְ שָׁמָּה יְדַעְתֶּם וְאֶת־הַדֶּרֶךְ יְדַעְתֶּם
5 Thomas said, 'Lord, we do not know where you are going, so how can we know the way?'	5 וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו תּוֹמָא אֲדֹנִי לֹא יָדַעְנוּ אָנָה אַתָּה הֹלֵךְ וְאֵיכָכָה נֵדַע אֶת־הַדָּרֶךְ
6 Jesus said: I am the Way; I am Truth and Life. No one can come to the Father except through me.	6 וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו יֵשׁוּעַ אָנֹכִי הִנְנִי הַדֶּרֶךְ וְהָאֱמֶת וְהַחַיִּים לֹא־יָבֹא אִישׁ אֶל־הָאָב כִּי־אִם־עַל־יָדִי
7 If you know me, you will know my Father too. From this moment you know him and have seen him.	7 לוּ־יְדַעְתֶּם אֹתִי גַּם אֶת־אָבִי יְדַעְתֶּם וּמֵעַתָּה יְדַעְתֶּם אֹתוֹ וּרְאִיתֶם אֹתוֹ
8 Philip said, 'Lord, show us the Father and then we shall be satisfied.' Jesus said to him,	8 וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו פִילִפּוֹס אֲדֹנִי הַרְאֵנוּ נָא אֶת־הָאָב וְדַי לָנוּ
9 'Have I been with you al this time, Philip, and you stil do not know me? 'Anyone who has seen me hasseen the Father, so how can you say, "Show us the Father"?	9 וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו יֵשׁוּעַ זֶה כַּמָּה יָמִים אָנֹכִי אִתְּכֶם וְאַתָּה פִילִפּוֹס הֲטֶרֶם תֵּדָעֵנִי הָרֹאֶה אֹתִי רָאָה אֶת־הָאָב וְלָמָּה־זֶּה תֹאמַר הַרְאֵנוּ אֶת־הָאָב
10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? What I say to you I do not speakof my own accord: it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his works.	10 הַאֵינְךָ מַאֲמִין כִּי אָנֹכִי בְאָבִי וְאָבִי בִּי הוּא הַדְּבָרִים אֲשֶׁר אֲדַבֵּר אֲלֵיכֶם לֹא־מִנַּפְשִׁי אָנֹכִי דֹבֵר כִּי אָבִי הַשֹּׁכֵן בְּקִרְבִּי הוּא עֹשֶׂה אֶת־הַמַּעֲשִׂים
11 You must believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe iton the evidence of these works.	11 הַאֲמִינוּ לִי כִּי־אָנֹכִי בְאָבִי וְאָבִי בִּי הוּא וְאִם־לֹא אַךְ־בִּגְלַל הַמַּעֲשִׂים הַאֲמִינוּ לִי
12 In all truth I tell you, whoever believes in me wil perform the same works as I do myself, and wilperform even greater works, because I am going to the Father.	12 אָמֵן אָמֵן אֲנִי אֹמֵר לָכֶם הַמַּאֲמִין בִּי יַעֲשֶׂה גַם־הוּא אֶת־הַמַּעֲשִׂים אֲשֶׁר אָנֹכִי עֹשֶׂה וּגְדֹלוֹת מֵאֵלֶּה יַעֲשֶׂה כִּי אֲנִי הוֹלֵךְ אֶל־אָבִי
13 Whatever you ask in my name I wil do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.	13 וְכָל־אֲשֶׁר תִּשְׁאֲלוּ בִשְׁמִי אֶעֱשֶׂנּוּ לְמַעַן יְכֻבַּד הָאָב בִּבְנוֹ
14 If you ask me anything in my name, I wil do it.	14 כִּי־תִשְׁאֲלוּ דָבָר בִּשְׁמִי אֲנִי אֶעֱשֶׂנּוּ
15 If you love me you wil keep my commandments.	15 אִם־אֲהַבְתֶּם אֹתִי אֶת־מִצְוֹתַי תִּשְׁמֹרוּ
16 I shall ask the Father, and he wil give you another Paraclete to be with you for ever,	16 וַאֲנִי אֶשְׁאֲלָה מֵאָבִי וְהוּא יִתֵּן לָכֶם פְּרַקְלִיט אַחֵר אֲשֶׁר־יִשְׁכֹּן אִתְּכֶם לָנֶצַח
17 the Spirit of truth whom the world can never accept since it neither sees nor knows him; but you knowhim, because he is with you, he is in you.	17 אֶת־רוּחַ הָאֱמֶת אֲשֶׁר לֹא־יָכֹל הָעוֹלָם לְהַשִּׂיגוֹ בַּאֲשֶׁר לֹא יִרְאֵהוּ וְלֹא יֵדָעֵהוּ וְאַתֶּם יְדַעְתֶּם אֹתוֹ כִּי־אִתְּכֶם שֹׁכֵן הוּא אַף־יִהְיֶה בְּתוֹכֲכֶם
18 I shall not leave you orphans; I shall come to you.	18 לֹא אֶעֱזָבְכֶם יְתוֹמִים אָבוֹאָה אֲלֵיכֶם
19 In a short time the world wil no longer see me; but you wil see that I live and you also wil live.	19 עוֹד מְעַט וְהָעוֹלָם לֹא יוֹסִיף לִרְאוֹת אֹתִי וְאַתֶּם תִּרְאוּנִי כִּי חַי אֲנִי וְגַם־אַתֶּם חָיֹה תִחְיוּ
20 On that day you wil know that I am in my Father and you in me and I in you.	20 וְהָיָה בַּיּוֹם הַהוּא יָדוֹעַ תֵּדְעוּ כִּי־אֲנִי בְאָבִי וְאַתֶּם בִּי וַאֲנִי בָכֶם
21 Whoever holds to my commandments and keeps them is the one who loves me; and whoever lovesme will be loved by my Father, and I shall love him and reveal myself to him.'	21 מִי אֲשֶׁר מִצְוֹתַי אִתּוֹ וַיִּנְצְרֵן זֶה הוּא אֲשֶׁר יֶאֱהָבַנִי וְאֹהֲבִי אָהוּב הוּא לְאָבִי וַאֲנִי אֹהֲבֵהוּ וְאֵלָיו אֶתְוַדָּע
22 Judas -- not Judas Iscariot -- said to him, 'Lord, what has happened, that you intend to show yourselfto us and not to the world?'	22 וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו יְהוּדָה לֹא יְהוּדָה אִישׁ קְרִיּוֹת אֲדֹנִי מַה־הוּא זֶה כִּי תַחְפֹּץ לְהִתְוַדַּע אֵלֵינוּ וְלֹא לָעוֹלָם
23 Jesus replied: Anyone who loves me wil keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we shalcome to him and make a home in him.	23 וַיַּעַן יֵשׁוּעַ וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו אִישׁ כִּי יֶאֱהָבַנִי יִשְׁמֹר אֶת־דְּבָרִי וְאָבִי יֶאֱהַב אֹתוֹ וְנָבוֹאָה אֵלָיו וְנָשִׂים אֶצְלוֹ מְעוֹנָתֵנוּ
24 Anyone who does not love me does not keep my words. And the word that you hear is not my own: itis the word of the Father who sent me.	24 וַאֲשֶׁר לֹא יֶאֱהָבַנִי הוּא לֹא יִשְׁמֹר אֶת־דְּבָרִי וְהַדָּבָר אֲשֶׁר שְׁמַעְתֶּם לֹא־שֶׁלִּי הוּא כִּי אִם־שֶׁל־אָבִי אֲשֶׁר שְׁלָחָנִי
25 I have said these things to you while still with you;	25 אֶת־אֵלֶּה דִּבַּרְתִּי אֲלֵיכֶם בְּעוֹד הֱיוֹתִי עִמָּכֶם
26 but the Paraclete, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father wil send in my name, wil teach you everythingand remind you of al I have said to you.	26 וְהַפְּרַקְלִיט רוּחַ הַקֹּדֶשׁ אֲשֶׁר־יִשְׁלָחֶנּוּ אָבִי בִּשְׁמִי הוּא יְלַמֶּדְכֶם אֶת־כֹּל וְיַזְכִּירְכֶם אֶת־כֹּל אֲשֶׁר־הִגַּדְתִּי לָכֶם
27 Peace I bequeath to you, my own peace I give you, a peace which the world cannot give, this is mygift to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.	27 שָׁלוֹם אַנִּיחַ לָכֶם אֶת־שְׁלוֹמִי אֶתֵּן לָכֶם לֹא כַּאֲשֶׁר יִתֵּן הָעוֹלָם אָנֹכִי נֹתֵן לָכֶם אַל־יִבָּהֵל לְבַבְכֶם וְאַל־יֵחָת
28 You heard me say: I am going away and shal return. If you loved me you would be glad that I amgoing to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.	28 הֲלֹא שְׁמַעְתֶּם כִּי אָמַרְתִּי אֲלֵיכֶם אֵלֶךְ־לִי וְאָשׁוּבָה אֲלֵיכֶם אִם־אָהֹב תֶּאֱהָבוּנִי כִּי־עַתָּה תִשְׂמְחוּ בְּאָמְרִי לָכֶם כִּי־הֹלֵךְ אֲנִי אֶל־הָאָב כִּי אָבִי גָּדוֹל מִמֶּנִּי
29 I have told you this now, before it happens, so that when it does happen you may believe.	29 וְעַתָּה הִנֵּה הִגַּדְתִּי זֹאת לָכֶם בְּטֶרֶם הֱיוֹתָהּ לְמַעַן בְּבוֹאָהּ תַּאֲמִינוּ
30 I shall not talk to you much longer, because the prince of this world is on his way. He has no powerover me,	30 לֹא־אַרְבֶּה עוֹד אֲמָרִים עִמָּכֶם כִּי יָבוֹא שַׂר הָעוֹלָם הַזֶּה וּבִי אֵין־לוֹ מְאוּמָה
31 but the world must recognise that I love the Father and that I act just as the Father commanded.Come now, let us go.	31 אַךְ לְמַעַן יֵדַע הָעוֹלָם כִּי אֶת־אָבִי אֲנִי אֹהֵב וְכַאֲשֶׁר צִוַּנִי אָבִי כֵּן אֲנִי עֹשֶׂה קוּמוּ וְנֵלְכָה מִזֶּה
