John 14

NEW JERUSALEM	NOVA VULGATA
1 Do not let your hearts be troubled. You trust in God, trust also in me.	1 Non turbetur cor vestrum. Creditis in Deum et in me credite.
2 In my Father's house there are many places to live in; otherwise I would have told you. I am going nowto prepare a place for you,	2 In domoPatris mei mansiones multae sunt; si quo minus, dixissem vobis, quia vado pararevobis locum?
3 and after I have gone and prepared you a place, I shall return to take you to myself, so that you maybe with me where I am.	3 Et si abiero et praeparavero vobis locum, iterum venio etaccipiam vos ad meipsum, ut, ubi sum ego, et vos sitis.
4 You know the way to the place where I am going.	4 Et quo ego vado,scitis viam ”.
5 Thomas said, 'Lord, we do not know where you are going, so how can we know the way?'	5 Dicit ei Thomas: “ Domine, nescimus quo vadis; quomodo possumus viam scire?”.
6 Jesus said: I am the Way; I am Truth and Life. No one can come to the Father except through me.	6 Dicit ei Iesus: “ Ego sum via et veritas et vita; nemo venit ad Patremnisi per me.
7 If you know me, you will know my Father too. From this moment you know him and have seen him.	7 Si cognovistis me, et Patrem meum utique cognoscetis; et amodocognoscitis eum et vidistis eum ”.
8 Philip said, 'Lord, show us the Father and then we shall be satisfied.' Jesus said to him,	8 Dicit ei Philippus: “ Domine, ostendenobis Patrem, et sufficit nobis ”.
9 'Have I been with you al this time, Philip, and you stil do not know me? 'Anyone who has seen me hasseen the Father, so how can you say, "Show us the Father"?	9 Dicit ei Iesus: “ Tanto temporevobiscum sum, et non cognovisti me, Philippe? Qui vidit me, vidit Patrem.Quomodo tu dicis: “Ostende nobis Patrem”?
10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? What I say to you I do not speakof my own accord: it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his works.	10 Non credis quia ego in Patre,et Pater in me est? Verba, quae ego loquor vobis, a meipso non loquor; Paterautem in me manens facit opera sua.
11 You must believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe iton the evidence of these works.	11 Credite mihi quia ego in Patre, et Paterin me est; alioquin propter opera ipsa credite.
12 In all truth I tell you, whoever believes in me wil perform the same works as I do myself, and wilperform even greater works, because I am going to the Father.	12 Amen, amen dico vobis: Qui credit in me, opera, quae ego facio, et ipsefaciet et maiora horum faciet, quia ego ad Patrem vado.
13 Whatever you ask in my name I wil do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.	13 Et quodcumquepetieritis in nomine meo, hoc faciam, ut glorificetur Pater in Filio;
14 If you ask me anything in my name, I wil do it.	14 si quidpetieritis me in nomine meo, ego faciam.
15 If you love me you wil keep my commandments.	15 Si diligitis me, mandata mea servabitis;
16 I shall ask the Father, and he wil give you another Paraclete to be with you for ever,	16 et ego rogabo Patrem, et aliumParaclitum dabit vobis, ut maneat vobiscum in aeternum,
17 the Spirit of truth whom the world can never accept since it neither sees nor knows him; but you knowhim, because he is with you, he is in you.	17 Spiritum veritatis,quem mundus non potest accipere, quia non videt eum nec cognoscit. Voscognoscitis eum, quia apud vos manet; et in vobis erit.
18 I shall not leave you orphans; I shall come to you.	18 Non relinquam vosorphanos; venio ad vos.
19 In a short time the world wil no longer see me; but you wil see that I live and you also wil live.	19 Adhuc modicum, et mundus me iam non videt; vos autemvidetis me, quia ego vivo et vos vivetis.
20 On that day you wil know that I am in my Father and you in me and I in you.	20 In illo die vos cognoscetis quiaego sum in Patre meo, et vos in me, et ego in vobis.
21 Whoever holds to my commandments and keeps them is the one who loves me; and whoever lovesme will be loved by my Father, and I shall love him and reveal myself to him.'	21 Qui habet mandata mea etservat ea, ille est, qui diligit me; qui autem diligit me, diligetur a Patremeo, et ego diligam eum et manifestabo ei meipsum ”.
22 Judas -- not Judas Iscariot -- said to him, 'Lord, what has happened, that you intend to show yourselfto us and not to the world?'	22 Dicit ei Iudas, non ille Iscariotes: “ Domine, et quid factum est, quianobis manifestaturus es teipsum et non mundo? ”.
23 Jesus replied: Anyone who loves me wil keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we shalcome to him and make a home in him.	23 Respondit Iesus et dixitei: “ Si quis diligit me, sermonem meum servabit, et Pater meus diliget eum,et ad eum veniemus et mansionem apud eum faciemus;
24 Anyone who does not love me does not keep my words. And the word that you hear is not my own: itis the word of the Father who sent me.	24 qui non diligit me,sermones meos non servat. Et sermo, quem auditis, non est meus, sed eius quimisit me, Patris.
25 I have said these things to you while still with you;	25 Haec locutus sum vobis apud vos manens.
26 but the Paraclete, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father wil send in my name, wil teach you everythingand remind you of al I have said to you.	26 Paraclitus autem, SpiritusSanctus, quem mittet Pater in nomine meo, ille vos docebit omnia et suggeretvobis omnia, quae dixi vobis.
27 Peace I bequeath to you, my own peace I give you, a peace which the world cannot give, this is mygift to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.	27 Pacem relinquo vobis, pacem meam do vobis; nonquomodo mundus dat, ego do vobis. Non turbetur cor vestrum neque formidet.
28 You heard me say: I am going away and shal return. If you loved me you would be glad that I amgoing to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.	28 Audistis quia ego dixi vobis: Vado et venio ad vos. Si diligeretis me,gauderetis quia vado ad Patrem, quia Pater maior me est.
29 I have told you this now, before it happens, so that when it does happen you may believe.	29 Et nunc dixi vobis,priusquam fiat, ut, cum factum fuerit, credatis.
30 I shall not talk to you much longer, because the prince of this world is on his way. He has no powerover me,	30 Iam non multa loquarvobiscum, venit enim princeps mundi et in me non habet quidquam;
31 but the world must recognise that I love the Father and that I act just as the Father commanded.Come now, let us go.	31 sed, utcognoscat mundus quia diligo Patrem, et sicut mandatum dedit mihi Pater, sicfacio. Surgite, eamus hinc.
